despite having issuers with halo in the past (the DS vs Halo war) i don't think any zone should be shut down unless its violated the SSC rules and made no effort to correct itself. Having a zone removed just because you done like it is possibly the worst thing that could be done for this game.

It is a laptop so the HDD connection and settings really cant go wrong. I have had this problem for a while and when i fully dismantled it to clean everything and check the connections it wasnt made any better. I did suspect the HDD but ive run every test i can and it is currently ok. Everything in that screen points at my on board Ethernet card causing a problem. This only happens when i am running sustained high bandwidth over a few hours or more. I suppose it may have something to do with the high level of hard disk read/write but why would it flag the network card if this is the case?

what style is the zone? what are the settings like? can you post some screen shots of the map and gameplay? would really help people to know what your zone is all about.

I would agree. They should have their voices heard in council as well as hearing the voice of council. Even smaller zone owners of perhaps 40+ pop zones or even 30+. If any of these people try to punch above their weight and abuse their position the setup should be adequate to stop them and take appropriate action.

Believe what you want because i don't think there is more i can say on this TBH. I never said i am supporting the decision i am just respecting the authority of the zone owner. As far as doing nothing goes why would i have made the comments i did if i was going to do nothing? Also i wouldn't be a sysop if i was doing nothing and if i felt i could do nothing i would resign. Regardless of this incident i will continue doing what i intend to do both on DS, in the forums and in SS in general. The way I see it is if nothing happens as a result of what i do at least i have tried. anyway thats enough on this crap i think. Time to move on

Whenever i am making large downloads this happens, less frequently when i just leave subchat or conti on. The system will crash in some way and i come back to see a black screen displaying this:- NSC DP83815/DP83816 MacPyther Fast Ethernet UNDI v1.00 some other stuff here PXE-E61 media test faliure, test cable PXE-M0F Existing Macpyther PCE ROM I have tried disabling the ethernet adapter as im using wireless, disables wake on lan and such as well. Looked for a driver update and cant find anything new so i have no idea what to do to fix this. Anyone that can help id be greatful.

These things always have the anything can happen but almost certainly won't factor to them. There are many things that can happen under the laws of physics like you randomly appearing on the other side of the universe but in reality it just wont happen so there is nothing to worry about IMO. The scale they are doing it on would only create a micro black hole i think and as far as i know they are harmless to us. Don't quote me though im no expert but judging by things i've read in the past thats what ill guess at. Any physics experts want to correct this and make things clear? someone has to know more then i do about this.

I almost fully agree but more zones should be involved being as zones form a major part of the community there arnt 0eny 70+ pop zones out there. Also allowed the abusive zone owners that are breaching rules to be dealt with in council which makes things easier. Also as zone owners will form a lower tier they wont punch as much weight so abusive ones cant cause too many problems whereas non-abusive owners can give a good contribution.

There's more a sysop can do. Such as quitting. I did the same thing when in your position. I don't think resigning my position would do anything at all other then put someone else in my place and leave me where I can do nothing in future. When situations arise that can be solved through negotiation I usually do it and sometimes its successful. I sometimes feel that if I leave DS my strength in this area will be lost from the zone just as if witchie NL left we would lose someone that knows out bots well or if Viligante went we wouldn't have the strong leadership structure we do now. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses and a resignation from me would no noone any good nor I think make a statement that would lead to change. Instead I think my place is to remain where I am and work with all the DS staff to make sure things like this don't happen again. What has come out of this is the ban guides have been improved and I am now the zones BanG admin so hopefully future cases wont have such a problem but i suppose only time will tell what this sysop can do in the long-run. If both you and Witchie left, the zone would die. Vili and Jeri sure can't run it. And if the zone died, it could be brought back by someone who wasn't Vili. Your supporting DS has only lost you any respect you've gained throughout SS history, and it's only getting worse. People now talk about you as if you were as corrupt and abusive as Viligante and Jeri. That's why I say quit. You're not making DS any better as it is now, as we've just proven. You "handled" this case and only got it more !@#$%^&*ed up. I can continue with about a hundred different reasons why you should quit. I think we should agree to disagree here. I know there is a lot more I have to offer and will stay as long as that is the case. And If I go the zone will still be alive. It was fine when i left for about 6 months a bout 18 months ago when I had little time for this game. As I See it I am far from done trying to improve things in DS all around and I'm not very keen on the idea of giving up now. I am aware that this is a major issue hence why I have involved myself in it and done my best to rectify things. I find it quite astonishing that I must now post here to defend myself when all I have done is try to help everyone involved. Obviously the outcome hasnt been what everyone agrees with but my work is far from done. Perhaps this time things havent worked out the way everyone here hoped but that doesn't mean I can try to make things better in the future. They say the best way to change something is from the inside so I will do my bit and work with everyone in DS to make it the best zone it can be rather then resigning. Anyway thats my feelings on this subject and i am sure if you were in my position knowing the people of DS as I do and having the working relationship I have there you would do the same. @ The Apache This is something i have tried to say many many times but unfortunately the personal feuds that have built up over the years have overshadowed this so when one person starts a downward spiral follows. Trouble is there are certain individuals that know exactly that will happen and come in to initiate it to cause problems for us like this one. I just hope i can break this cycle in the future (hence my improving of our ban policy and taking on Bang admin being as i am (hopefully) free of these personal vendettas against me and visa versa, i hope this topic doesn't change that because i'm not one to hold a grudge) Anyway as this topic is going nowhere its probably time to lay it to rest and see what the future brings...

Now i am all for democracy but it just wouldn't work in this game. The server owners arn't elected, priit and GS arnt elected but these people all git the game up and keep it going and so should make up the council. Other members are those with the skills to get what needs to be done done and have resorces to offer. If we elected council it would be a popularity contest rather then best people do the job. I know there is corruption and a lack of diplomacy at times but i think the council itself is able to solve these problems if people get on with it and do it. People have been removed in the past for these reasons and i don't see why that will stop. If that cant be solved and there is a big enough call the only way a democratic council should exist if the lower tier, i.e additional people past server owners and such are voted in but I doubt this will work either.

Sui and Lid. The messages I sent you were correct at the time of sending. I had a very long talk with viligante in order to rectify the situation and we had a plan which involved unbanning you. I understand that vili received some messages over PM or something and the decision was withdrawn as a result. I am not sure of the nature of these messages but I'm sure I will be soon. I have tried to do everything I said I would in this topic but unfortunately the issue is out of my hands at this time. I will be respecting the chain of command that exists in DS on this issue and so as jericho24. said the bans will remain in place. (i guess there is only so much a sysop can do).

TJ thats not accurate. This was sort of the case on non SSC zones when they were first started and the duchies stuck together and in many respects devolped their skills together. I joined them in these early days and devolped my skills as well as several others from all over the world. A while after this we all staffed zones on SSZ and when SSZ desert storm became SSCC DS we all moved into staff that zone again as the group we formed in those earlier days know we all worked well together being as we all did this before and that our skill range was what we needed. A few things have changes since back then but the core of us is still mostly the same. The dutch thing is exadurated though. I am English. 4 are dutch, 6 american so im not sure where this all ducth idea has come from. Hope that clears that bit up.

I wasn't saying things are perfect, what i meant is things seemed to improve for a while and any complaints were easy to deal with. I also made sure the ban compliant forum was set up so if anyone wanted to contest a ban it was easy to do. If this isn't working too well perhaps ill look into improving that as well. There was room for improvement but there always is all i was saying is that i have tried to make things better. Unfortunately now all of that seems to have gone out of the window so I will be bringing it back. As far as everything in this thread goes i can see this is getting way out of control and i am sure i will find bans that personally i disagree with when i finally get onto sorting this tonight. All i am hoping atm is that I can find some solution to all this which ill be doing my best to do. Watch this space

Ok time for some information. 1. Abusive Staff This is something I have been working on recently and up till now things seemd to be runniong ok with no complaints. 2. Criznittle Criz as well as others that !@#$%^&*ociate themselves with him often have clashes in DS. Everyone knows we have rules against racial discrimination in DS asnd use of racial slurs is against our rules. Criz on many occasions has used racial slurs to test this rule. When i have seen this i have given warnings but often these are mostly ignored. This incodent i still havent read my own logfiles so ill have to add more re this occasion later. 3. Other bans After the banning of criz many people come into the zone to complain but it always goes further. I dealt with 2 people 1 had a reasonable discussion and no action was taken against him. The other came in, complained and then said in a help message he needed helkp making a bot accept the "!@#$%^&*" command. After a warning he said in pub chat "I LOVE DEM !@#$%^&*Z I DANCE FOR THOSE !@#$%^&*Z yo". He knew this was against our rules and ignored a warning so i banned him. Now he also claims an unfair ban. LID and sui i havent looked into yet so again ill get back on that. Some of this may have gone out of control but people do come into DS to push the limits of what we can do and deliberatly try to irritate the staff emembers they know will give the longer more harsh bans. I have tried to solve this problem giving zone guidelins for banning and what is acually banabe and its worked. Viligante is not the abusive !@#$%^&*hole you think he is. His views on the issues of banning for said offences and what is acceptable in DS are well established and its a line we hold. All we ask is people respect our rules. We dont ban for anything and if any staff do ban unfairly we ask people to contest the ban so that myself of another sysop can review it and deal with it as appropriate. I will look more into this incodent at the weekend, make my comments on here and if neccacary further review our policy. To finish id like to make a request to criz and all thoise siding with him. Can we please stop the clashing, i myslef am keeping an open mind until my review is done. If we stop the crap then perhaps everyting can improve. As i have said if our rules are respected you will be respected and I will also be dong my part from within the zone staff to ensure this is the case. I don't know exactly what happened here as i was AFK at the time and haven't had an opportunity to look through the logs and such. I will do this soon (probably weekend) then ill talk about the issue with all that are involved.

If its a non SSC zone i say its non-SSC business. I would be in favor of watching him but as hes not violated SSC rules on SSC servers any action would be a violation of ban guidelines IMO.
