i think a mobile Java app would be more favourable, should work on a wider range of platforms. Would be especially good if the Iphone was Java compatible as this would make it a perfect platform for mobile apps

they need an active community to enter into. People will be more willing to hang around of they see things changing for the better around them. I think also a game like this needs to be marketed as a great way to kill half an hour to these kids rather then a full session game. These days kids want to spend hours on WOW or a similar game and play something like subspace when they are a bit bored/ fancy something else for a while. Idea really behind it is get them hooked with this reason to download then reel them in to upping their game time. Other thing we have going? FREE, FREE, FREE and FREE. No upgrade crap, no way to buy an unfair advantage and so on.

I say do it. I think the database does need to be shifted over though, but this would also be a great time to have a clean up. A new DB can only harm the current player base IMO as names will vanish very quickly. Even an Cap by IP will not stop the most determined from snapping up everything ans slapping a price on it.

I would yuse an alternative. I think this game needs scope for regular updates to keep it going and these clients look like the way to do that.

I haven't stopped playing but have a lot less time then I used to. When I started with this game I was an A level student with loads of free time. Next I was at university which reduced my game time a bit, but still left me hour per day to spend on continuum. Now I am a Ph.D student (read in a full time and a bit job), married and spend most of my time working. The free time I have is then split up between my wife, the massive increase in the time I dedicate to cycling, just not being in front of a computer for a while and various chores that have to be done when I have the chance. None the less I still manage an hour or two minimum a day, but its a long way from the several hours I used to have to dedicate to the game. The short answer I guess is real life...

I think the real problem is all of this happened when much of the community had much less going on in their lives then we do now. What this game really needs is a new wave of teenagers with plenty of spare time and years of commitment ahead but we have failed to attract them, mostly because that generation of gamers expect all of the modern features from their games rather then the retro appeal of this one. I really hope these projects can get finished, and things can take a step forward here, as pol said things have defiantly become "someone else will do it" around here.

yes as suggested above. select the zone, click "trace" in the top right corner and leave it for a while (around 100 cycles) stop it, sekectr everything, copy it (CTRL+C) and paste it in a new post here (CTRL+V) hopefully from that data we will see where the problem is, and suggest things to try.
