The hardest part of being "new" to Hyperspace is the learning curve. Hyperspace is currently the most RPG-ish zone there is. It has custom ships, custom items, and different playstyles, while other zones simply have the same ship for everyone. As such, the learning curve is much steeper in Hyperspace. Some of the most common things are often asked the most by new players: Learn how to use ?buy With buying comes the management of ?money Learn how to ?flag Learning how to be useful (although some current players could still learn this) Learn how to ?attach, and not use F7 Learning why lancasters are important, and ?lancs Learning with summon is The best way to accomplish such tasks would be a simple tutorial. Perhaps a separate arena that new players can be directed to like ?go tutorial. Another issue with RPG's is that new people will inevitably have worse gear. There is nothing to do to fix this. We can only tell new players that with time they will get better gear. Maybe creating a list for "suggested items for newbies" would be beneficial?
  3. Leagues aren't possible in Hyperspace. It's not worth your time to try.
  4. Is there anybody worth mentioning in hyperspace anymore?
  5. I think this thread has perfectly demonstrated why we have no new content. There is not nearly enough people actively creating/balancing items. Look at this thread, and see how far we have gotten in creating/balancing items. We need to involve the ENTIRE player base in new items, not just the minuscule amount of people on the forum.
  6. To all of our great staffers. Cheers.
  7. I'm making a list of the people who said they would play in league. Feel free to add your own name/other people who said they'd play. Players Acer adi. adonibyte DevilPiracy op2rules Patman1 player killer poison ink spidernl Wolfie Nightmare
  8. Crossfire contains many cheaters nowadays.
  9. BZAP - Referees are for oversight. You've seen Hyperspace, and the characters in it. Unfortunately, it is very hard to trust some of them to play fairly. I did plan to run a number of polls to gauge player interest in certain aspects of the game. When you do run your own outline, I think we'll both have to agree on one. Having two of the same league is silly. Not a single person has volunteered to make a "Decent Map" Perhaps you could?
  10. After discussion in this thread -> http://forums.ssgn.net/index.php?showtopic=24625&st=20 I have decided to post the rules for the new league. Feel free to tell me if anything should be changed. Credits to anyone in that thread who positively influenced this. Squad Dueling League TEAMS: Only one alias may play for the league. Have a maximum of 6, and a minimum of 4. Have a squad name, and a squad leader. The leader may assign assistants. The leader/assistants will have the power to ready their team to the referee. REFEREES: Will be able to Control Frequencies so they can put teams in order Will begin the match Will make sure nothing fishy happens ARENA: Namp's League Map Gduel Any New map made can be considered.(Mapmakers, start your DCME!) MATCHES: Will be 4v4. Should the leaders/assistants agree, you may 2v2 or 3v3. Will follow a ladder. BANNED: 5,000,000 Alien Techs : Baryon, Adamantine, Temporal Consumables (Repels, Bursts, Thors, Portals, Decoys, Rockets, Bricks) RULES: Five deaths = Spec 3 deaths = Spec. Last team standing wins. Best of 3 matches. Ship changing is allowed only after a death. Substitutions may only be made between rounds. Lag Specs and Disconnections are an elimination for that round. 10 minutes is the current time limit. If time runs out, the team with the most remaning lives wins. Draw = NC Use common sense. If an obvious rule isn't stated here, that doesn't mean you can break it. Sympathy won't be shown. REWARDS: Winning participants will receive 50k Losing participants will receive 10k Winning the entire ladder will have a grand prize
  11. Shall I post these rules in another thread? Or Edit my first post?
  12. This is very true, and I completely agree with you. In an early post, I stated that players who could not find a squad would be randomly put on one. Now, I'm starting to think this might break team chemistry. Any ideas what to do with strays? I'm not really comfortable with simply saying "Haha you have no friends, GTFO!" Also, I'm going to keep a squad requirement. It takes about 10 seconds to make one (?squadcreate), and 5 seconds to join one(?squadjoin). -Was it really necessary to say mines were okay? Heh, never realized people thought they were lame. -I think one lagout should be allowed. The occasionally lag spike happens to everyone, even those who live next door to the server. They would have 30 seconds to get back in. -Are you sure 6 minutes is enough? Maybe we should test it a little to see. -When you say, -Spec-on-death elimination. Each match is first to five; win by two. Best of 3 matches. Does win by two mean you are two kills ahead at the end? If so, I think this is unnecessary. Having a 4 v 4 is already full of so many variables, no need to add more. -I'd be willing to make a simple ladder, It shouldn't be too hard. I'm pretty sure we won't have that many teams anyway. I'm glad that someone besides me bothered to make rules. =)
  13. Agreed. With the removal of private freqs, squads seldom get the chance to work together. A squad-based league can encourage growth and healthy competition. Because squads differ in size, larger ones should enter in multiple groups. A squad loses nothing from a match amongst themselves; enrolling several groups only increases their presence. The 4v4 match outline used in pre-league will work fine. If you'd prefer simpler, might I suggest Namp's league map for spec-on-death elimination. The latter automatically penalizes teams for being short on players. It also makes scoring very easy. No bot needed, either! While this would indeed work, it does worry me a bit. There is a much larger chance for one squad to rape everyone else. (although the draft teams were just as unfair) There is also the fact that people who would participate in draft are too unassertive to join a squad. So here's a couple ideas: Squads can have a maximum of 5 chosen players. Those wanting to compete, but who can't form a squad, will be randomly put on a team.
  14. Could you expand? Which parts are faulty?
  15. Since I started this topic, I guess I'll provide a rough setup. It will be revised if needed. First, I'd need to know what type of arenas/maps we'd be allowed to change/have a moderator change. Anyone willing to captain will create a squad, and sign up for the league. There will be a maximum number of captains allowed, since having 56 teams with 1 captain doesn't help anything. The players willing to play in league would be given a 2 week period to sign up on a thread. No aliases would be allowed. ( We'd need a mod to check that) Any sign-ups past the final cutoff date will not be accepted. We would then hold a draft, giving each captain a 24(maybe more, maybe less) hour period to pick a player. We would go in such an order of picking -> Captain 1, Captain 2, Captain 3, Captain 4, Captain 4, Captain 3, Captain 2, Captain 1, Captain 1, Captain 2, etc. Should a captain fail to pick within his period, he will be given an extra pick during his next selection. As of now, I don't really feel confident in letting a bot run games by itself, so I'm going to ask that a referee be present at every league game. Here's how it would go: We would set up a schedule, and each team would have to agree on a time that a referee can also meet. They would also have to agree on either a 3 v 3, or 4 v 4. A referee would then start up the game. For these games, you must use either a warbird or a javelin. Switching ships would only be allowed for a 10 second period after you have died. Items will be allowed. At the end of the season, we would have the top 2 teams duel for the championship. Scrimmages would be allowed. Referees do not have to be present, but referees will have powers. This is so the ref can put in a competing team, should they want to practice. Competing teams will have a priority over solo players in scrimmaging arenas. The scrimmage arena, and the league arena, would be two different places. I suppose a rewards section could be worked out later, but I'll only add this part after league starts up. After all, this is where the cheating/abusing seems most likely to happen. For the rules, see http://forums.ssgn.net/index.php?showtopic=24708 Because any abusing ref will be axed immediately. These ref powers will only be available in those arenas. And I'll make sure that these powers don't allow them to gain personal advantage in any way. Self-formed is interesting, but I can guarantee it will be maybe two dominating teams. I suppose a rewards section could be worked out later, but I'll only add this part after league starts up. After all, this is where the cheating/abusing seems most likely to happen. I suppose thats what the scrimmages are for, even though its not completely what you asked for. People are indeed very sparse in their times on Hyperspace. As for the adjustable numbers, I'm sticking with 3v3 and 4v4 because I feel 1v1/2v2 isn't much of a team, , and 5v5+ is simply too many people. Remember, this is a very rough setup. Things will be changed when necessary. On another note, we could always just take the old setup and tweak it, seen here at http://www.ssforum.net/index.php?showtopic=24091
  16. Yes, I was referring to a team dueling league. Everyone has something to offer, even if it's just as a meatshield for your teammates. =) This doesn't mean we just give up. Figuring out what went wrong, and then fixing it is the first step to a successful league. Perhaps you could offer some insight rather than your usual blunt remarks. I was referring to team dueling. 1 on 1 dueling can be done on your own time, and there is already statistics for it on the website. I don't think adding a league for it would make much of a difference. But if team dueling takes off, who knows? 1 on 1 dueling might be next. As for the lamest builds, I'm not sure whether you are referring to the alien techs ( which were banned from league ) or simply "overpowered items". In my opinion, having a team with decent chemistry can easily overtake a couple lame builds. As for being lazy, I'm gonna assume that most people aren't, especially since I see many people on for long periods of time.
  17. So with the death of the former league, I was wondering whether another one would ever be put up. I'd be willing to do my part in any way possible.
