  1. As it stands right now in Subspace/Continuum/Discretion, there is a set of 10 frames to animate the bombs. Does that mean for every direction, you'll have to have a separate set of 10 frames...? Would I need to render 640 frames just for the one bomb. Then do it again for the 4 different levels of bombs, and for the 3 different styles (regular/bounce/EMP) and the Thor...? That's like 8320 frames just for the bombs alone...? Maybe I mis-understood what is going on here LOL
  2. I noticed that with my bullets, I have the same issue. If the issue might be fixed, then I probably don't need to be posting this stuff Just a quick question... Am I able to enter any current zones with discretion...? Besides the Dev one. I am too scared to try LOL Am I able to get the new version...? I thought Discretion was self-updating. I can wait if that is not the case... I can email you the bombs if you would like. I want to release all the graphics at once. So I don't really want to post them on the forums right now PM me or something...
  3. Well, if you look at the rotation animation from VIE, the bottom isn't that flat. There seems to be some 'bumps' and stuff down there. When I started texturing my Warbird, I wish I would have worked on the modeling more before getting to detailed with the textures. Now, if I want to go back and change some of the model (and I really want to), I'll have to pretty much redo ALL of the textures...
  4. That's pretty sick man! I really like it.
  5. Nice progress, I don't know if Wings3D has anything similar to Smoothing Groups, but it will help keep parts of the fuselage from blending together into one blob when smoothing it. You can basically smooth sections separately from one another. Keep it up!
  6. I am working on some misc. graphics and have known for a while that Discretion handled Alpha channels in PNGs for a while now, and thought I would 'port' the graphics I was making from Continuum to Discretion. I started with the Bomb, everything went well, but found that when the bomb exploded, the explosion animation was offset to the upper-left and not where the bomb made 'contact' with, in this case, the wall. I know that you probably aren't even worrying about issues like this at this point. You probably have a lot of other things to do pertaining to your Discretion client then deal with stuff like this right now I just thought I would bring it to your attention if you didn't already know about it already. I don't know if you can tell what is going on in the screenshot, but the explosion should be right in the corner, but it is showing up on the outside of the wall. Anyways, yeah, I guess I'll just finish up the graphics and port them later... .matt
  7. Are you kidding me man...? My computer is 5 years old. It took me probably 12 hrs (probably an over exaggeration, but seriously long time) to render out the spinning Subspace shield. And you want me to do it all over again, 'cause you don't want to take the time to take out the last 15-or-so frames of the animation so it appears to be spinning continuously...? I was wondering why the contest was for Trench Wars only and not a Subspace/Continuum contest.
  8. @Jab: That is pretty much what I, and a couple of people, have been saying about the Continuum Face-lift project. It's hard to get a consistent look/feel when materials are coming from multiple sources... In this case, I think it is a good thing though. More people can make custom ship-sets for upcoming zones if then need/want them. Plus, the community can't sit back and wait for one person to finish up something like this. Especially if you are waiting for me to finish the models I haven't even looked at the models in a couple weeks! I know what you mean about the slight curve to the wings of the Lancaster when looking at it from the back end. I've been thinking about that for a while. I don't know how I would go abouts doing it.
  9. I would watch and vote for that over and over again...
  10. Post some progress...! I wanna see I made the textures in photoshop. They are for the V-Ray though. I don't know if you can get V-ray for blender though...? I was in the same boat when modeling my warbird. Read and follow tutorials. Texturing is a whole 'nother beast. I find it hard to get them to wrap around the model properly. I don't like doing it. It's hard for me to do. Well, not so much hard, but really tedious to do. And I don't like it
  11. I knew for a while that Discretion handled alpha channels and originally was going to make graphics for discretion for fun. But I couldn't figure out how to get the alpha channels to show up in Discretion. The graphics I made for Continuum/Subspace, I had to do a dithering/checker pattern to simulate transparency, and it looks pretty ugly when there isn't a lot of action going on. Though, in fast paced areas, it's not too bad. I want to make my way to the Discretion forums and figure this out Maybe I can help over there...?
  12. I like that... Keeps everything in the same place so it is still familiar to navigate. I'd use it if you made it I'm going to keep adding to my GFX Package that I started a while back. Or maybe stat new. I'm going to keep it separate from this project tho.
  13. Okay, I know that the prospect of having some new Subspace eye candy is an exciting one after 14 years. And I wish that I was as excited about this stuff as some people around here, jabjabjab. But DAMN! From the start, I've said I don't even know if I'll finish the ships. I'm not a professional 3d artist, I'm not a professional graphics designer, this is a HOBBY. Along with a handfull of other hobbies and real life, this one, honestly, is on the bottom rung. I wouldn't expect an update on the Warbird for a while. I'll get the damn Warbird finished. When...? on the 15th anniversary of subspace......... Caught me on a day where I feel particularly... asshole'y... @MillenniumMan: I don't know the first thing about optimizing models for gaming (if there is a need for that sort of thing) and if I need to combine all the diff parts into one mesh, I'll have to re-map and texture the whole thing. We'll see. @Samapico: That's the second time that somebody has said that I must be dead in this thread. I know you were being facetious, so I'll let is slide I'm a long time believer in the ol' adage "Patience is a virtue." .matt
  14. I absolutely agree here. I'm not sure anybody (I guess in this case, jabjabjab, considering this is his project) knows what they want the end results to look/feel like. I'm afraid in the end, all the graphics/sounds/whatever might feel a little 'slapped together' and not really have that 'make-over/facelift' feel jabjabjab is looking for. You can see it already with the files that have been attached in this thread. larrythehamster hit it pretty much on the nose with his post. And I think the SubspaceOnline site is a decent place to start when considering a facelift for the rest of subspace. Anything worth doing is worth doing right...
  15. I love Wayback Machine Thanks for the back info on the image. I know of the current Subspace 2 project, somewhat. I haven't really looked into it though. Maybe I should...? I was sure that the image of the "Porototype X2" didn't come from the 'Subspace 2' project currently going on in the subforum here on ssforums... or is it...? @ jabjabjab and Samapico: I just noticed that the image was coming from allinjuan.com when I viewed the image. It is being linked from his site.
  16. It says it hold 5 tonnes...! I'd still be wary about jumping on it...
  17. I wonder why the image shown comes from "http://allinjuan.com". Is it a different Juan...? The font at the bottom is also the same font used on the old subspace client's UI in some parts. Is that font available...? If so, Where can I get it
  18. hmm... a 10th ship, and Jaun had a hand in it...? Was there an official/semi-official 'Subspace II' being worked on a while back or something. I don't know anything about that... I'm intrigued... I'm not a fan of the design. The Original Subspace ships look sleeker and better thought out. That one look too 'look at me, I'm a space fighter!'. If you know what I mean... Though, Subspace II... somebody fill me in. I've been playing Subspace off-and-on since '95. Admittedly, mostly OFF So I probably missed anything about 'Subspace II' .matt
  19. I changed my sig completely, I shouldn't have that problem anymore I actually worked on the Warbird A LITTLE. I know, can you believe it...? Probably not enough for anybody to notice a difference Though. I fixed a texture 'issue' that was bothering me for a while now. Drake7707 pointed it out a while back. I took out the 'crack' that was mirrored. It's not really a big enough update to post a picture about, but I'm going to anyways I don't know why the texture are looking 'softer' then my older renders. I'm sure it has to do with Vray or something. Anticlimactic picture time...? Here you go.
  20. Okay... I just skimmed that tutorial. And it's pretty advanced stuff and less on the actual modeling. That might now be a great tut for you right now
  21. This might be jumping the gun a little, but I came across this when trying to find references on jet engines trying to figure out how I should finish my warbird engines. Thought you might enjoy the read. http://www.halfgaar.net/modelling-a-jet-engine
  22. That's cool that you're getting the hang of it. I would love to see any progress you might make. I don't care if you're modeling the Shark, or if you are just modeling a box. I just want to see you getting better .matt
  23. I was wondering if you were going to post anything. I remember a while back you said you might give a go at trying to model some ships...? It was a couple months ago You should give Blender a try. I think it's free. It'll be super confusing at first But if you just keep playing with it, you'll get the hang of it. That is what I did. The Warbird I posted in this thread is the 6th thing I EVER modeled. I'm just surprised it came out so well My suggestion is to follow tutorials. Even if they aren't related to spaceship modeling, tutorials will familiarize you with the tools and give you the skills to work in the program. Don't listen to jabjabjab keep working on the details. Its comeing along Just keep working on them detail. God/the Devil is in the details. Anyways, I know the higher resolution images were posted early on in this thread, and the rotations ones that show all 6 sides of the ships. But I don't know if anybody posted that simple 360 rotations from the Subspace 1.35 client. I ripped them out of the resources and compiled them into animated gifs. http://i600.photobucket.com/albums/tt87/mDagar/Subspace%20Ship%20Sources/Ship1-WarBirdII.gif http://i600.photobucket.com/albums/tt87/mDagar/Subspace%20Ship%20Sources/Ship2-JavelinII.gif http://i600.photobucket.com/albums/tt87/mDagar/Subspace%20Ship%20Sources/Ship3-SpiderII.gif http://i600.photobucket.com/albums/tt87/mDagar/Subspace%20Ship%20Sources/Ship4-LeviathanII.gif http://i600.photobucket.com/albums/tt87/mDagar/Subspace%20Ship%20Sources/Ship5-TerrierII.gif http://i600.photobucket.com/albums/tt87/mDagar/Subspace%20Ship%20Sources/Ship6-WeaselII.gif http://i600.photobucket.com/albums/tt87/mDagar/Subspace%20Ship%20Sources/Ship7-LancasterII.gif http://i600.photobucket.com/albums/tt87/mDagar/Subspace%20Ship%20Sources/Ship8-SharkII.gif Here is a link to all the source files I've been using to model my version of the Subspace ships. Clicky!!!
  24. Cool. Thanks. It's the same one I posted in the '3d Ships' thread in this post. There is a supersized one too. I don't know of any practical use for the large ship set. But it includes the roll too. Just a novelty really
  25. I did notice that, And I have submitted it in the appropriate area. Though, one question, how do I go about attaching a screenshot...? I must have missed that option when submitting... I fancy myself more of a graphics designer than and artist But thanks As for the SFX, it's true, I wouldn't even know where to start. I wish I could remake the SFX tho. That would RULE! But not being an audiophile, the current sounds sound pretty good to me. And, I am a wizard. You can find me at [geek alert] Hogwarts! **EDIT: Level 2 baby....! (what does that mean...?)
