An easy fix that I used to do is build anti Thor bricks into my bases, mostly at choke points and into the odd decoration. I found this helped a lot.

Revamping center for things like this arent as easy as it sounds, however that is a good idea to keep event based games in pub. It just takes a lot of work moving the gates. I would do it if I had the right computer, but unfortunately for me... I'm on a Mac, and my laptop that I had everything for ss on crashed and won't start up, and I just don't want to pay the money to fix it right now.
