i can't remember what i voted for, but anything over an hour is just stupid as hell. ss is damn near complete death; don't drive the last nail home by letting people log in, see 12 people in safe zones (and have been there for the last 8 hours), go "well this shit is stupid" and log out forever. or to trench or eg or any of those other abominations. i've seen it firsthand.

what about CR? admittedly, it was pretty awful.. like INF and SS had a baby.. but it was close to "ss2" as you could get.

my god. actual random shrap? i was saddened when league's fixed 8-point shrap became a pub setting. sure, random shrap made you die a LOT, but it taught you to (sort of) not shoot in the red quite so much. one of the major flaws was mine stacks with random shrap. good god that would hurt. possibly limit mines to 2 or 3 per player, or max of 8 per freq. on a fully greened ship, not shooting and slamming into three mines, it'll more than likely kill you straight up. if not, REALLY damage you. then that shrap or bullet from wherever will finish the job. one person could easily minerep a 6man stack and cash in. one bounce for a lanc bomb is plenty. it gets silly when you have linebombers in the pipe. or rocketing limebombers. IMA SPREAD THIS WORD.

fine. reviving an ultra dead topic. don't go open. at least get everyone involved with making a CORE client. just one. one that works and is able to do all the stupid bullshit people want with addons or plugins or whatever. however, i know X-person is stuck in their ways of OH THIS PROGRAMING LANGUAGE IS BETTER or I CAN DO MORE WITH THIS HORSECOCK. one client with support, through addons, for the biller would be ideal. but this is a gigantic pipe dream ten years too late.

Possibly the Unreal 3 engine. It's been open source for a year or so now. I've seen a TON of non-fps games using udk. And, for all intents and purposes, it's relatively simple to program. cyanyde has a def point. One of many problems is that when/if it does go open source, there's a high chance of turning a sort of dead game into a completely dead game with hacks targeted at vulnerabilities of the biller or whatever. Just saddens me to see my game go right down the toilet due to infighting with devs getting bent, taking their toys, and going home. 55 versions of the same client is great and all, but it doesn't help shit overall.

i don't mean to revive a kind of dead topic. nightmare or not, deving ss in source would give ss some semi-resemblance of unity or purpose instead of everybody doing their own thing. if ss SOMEHOW made it to steam, there's where the bump to population would occur. however, the pricing and who actually OWNS the ss licence is still a problem.. we can spam boards and do petitions to our hearts extent, sure, but when the pop still drops ever so slightly, even after making upgrades and new bots and engines and shit, there's still a problem. i dunno. hopeful thinking, perhaps. here's a picture of a square watermelon. http://blog.lib.umn.edu/hoxxx140/architecture/square-watermelon.jpg
