  1. it's closed source. See forum en!@#$%^&*led 'Thank you Subspace Community' for new developments.
  2. brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. Get a few people to help and make it more ASSS-compatible.
  3. yeah, unless it's a really interesting map or has a nice tileset (or someone's feeling VERY generous) then you'll have to do it yourself.
  4. ..only the first windows binaries were laggy..
  5. agreed, but maybe nothing happens because people think it can't change.
  6. I don't see any point in giving zones FTP to their folders. As far as i'm concerned, just upload it or send it to me and i'll get it up asap. As for not being online to restart zones, yes, that has happened once or twice, due to the server's auto-restart not working correctly. I'm working on process server access for all zones on the server to negate that problem. To be quite honest, I don't really have the time to run SSL, but what I do do i see as being a FAR more reliable service than that offered by NTC at the moment. -also, FTP has been using as much as double the bandwidth of the actual server, and it has been abused in the past-
  7. having said that, the organisation of this game makes me pretty mad too; if I don't get a REPLY soon from Priit, I may stop hosting zones altogether. I realise he's busy, but courtesy is something different entirely.......
  8. Plat, I would have to agree, i'm just biased due to problems with getting it in the past
  9. yes, -*BAD WORD*-, give me SSC After talking to many people, leaving many messages, emailing several times, talking on ICQ and much more, SSC billing for SSL has got absolutely NOWHERE. Despite having three hours downtime in 5 months, 93 population max, and not a single complaint about the service. Oh well, such is life... I agree that SSC billing for all SSI zones is a good idea, but then again i'm biased.
  10. SSC billing now seems a little more likely, can't say anything else right now, but I'm confident.
  11. Which is why I'd like to host that zone on SSC billing. As of now, I've had no reply from my email what, a month ago to Priit asking if this is possible. That is the only zone I'd host on SSC at the moment.. so the question over the weight on the biller is okay. (Except for existing SSC zones which would like to switch servers) Is there a chance Priit reads this?
  12. #1 You coudn't have moved to SSCI anyway.. DS filled the bandwidth #2 if you can think of another SSC host that'll take you, feel free to move #3 Don't take SSC for granted. Just having population doesn't mean you're guaranteed SSC billing.
  13. Yeah, sorry about that. Felt the need to distinguish between SSI and SSI East. Why SSL, I have no clue.
  14. ^ the matrix zone idea sounds actually promising. I might try that.
  15. -Recruit staff. They're the only ones who'll play a lot in a new zone. -Know EXACTLY where you want the zone to go, and make it. Once you've got the map and settings, only change them to counteract bugs. -Get on a stable host (SSI ) -Always ask yourself, 'How is this zone different from any other?' and if the answer is no, MAKE it different. -Events, events and more events. However, ensure that there are never too few people in public to make a decent game. -Advertise in forums, use any tactic to get people you can. Host special events that people know about in advance. -As soon as you've a stable population, ask about SSC billing. Once you've got this, unless you neglect the zone, it's not going to go too badly wrong. -Stick with it! I believe firmly that if you stick with a zone, honing it bit by bit, it'll become one of the best. Talking about zones, I'm making a new one. Anyone up for helping?
  16. and you're not a newb at all?
  17. Requesting a new forum, SSI East, for the new SSI server I host, that is, shockingly, on the east coast.
