i'm waaaay too disorganised. did all mine yesterday, felt like such a selfish fool.

what's this, intelligent debate in subspace? My, things must have changed since I last dropped by I'm not sure what I think: I've always been a touch scared of the effects of computer games. At the moment, sure, it's really easy to distinguish between computer games and reality. When you're driving around in GTA IV, the graphics are incredible, but it's nothing like driving in real life. And computer game violence is clearly only affecting those prone to it. But what about the future? Computer games are only going to get more realistic. It's only going to become more like actually running people over in your car, to take my previous example. And that scares me, frankly.

I thought they were going to cut the price to make it actually AFFORDABLE to normal people, apparently not. In England it's still like $400 plus a $60 a month contract. Ridiculous.

baudchaser, 1ststrike, anaconda, altec, smong and argyle, definitely. Who was it that made that DS9 zone? I always forget. They should be interviewed as one of the first people to use LVZ to that extent. Think about interviewing BD Vine too if you can get hold of him. Don't know what his email is nowadays.

school.. online..?

i spent around 2000 hours on guard duty !@#$%^&*, that's some serious usage welcome back - hope everyone you know made it back safely.

does the bang site still work? last I checked, few people seemed to have heard of it.

yeah, i agree. it's always going to be subjective.. there have been countless SSC zone owners and sysops. Would you say that they were all worthy of being on this list? How about a player with the top points/best rec ever in a specific zone? It's difficult to know when to stop. Either have specific rules for who can be on the list or just have a general one.

Who is this rootbear guy?

I figured 'warzone' was the best word to use to people who've never played the game before. They don't know it has another meaning in SS I used it to refer to arenas.

i might be in an immature mood, but http://www.ssforum.net/index.php?showtopic=20003 cracked me up.

rofl, amusing mental image of a load of nerdy looking people hitting the city in t shirts with slogans like '!@#$%^&* neggers' and 'my other ship is a Avro 4F/2 HMS Lancaster'

lols.. dumbest thread ever

as far as suggestions go, get ana or ws or someone to make it look really good - maybe emphasise the fact that it's FREE in BIG letters or people will think it's just some product you're selling - maybe include a list of quotes about how great it is. I wish alpha still existed, and you could direct people there. If I had time, I'd create a new beginner zone, but i don't - would be good if you could link this project to a new zone for new people. Basically, just make it SIMPLE; these are some phrases that might work SubSpace - the massIVELY MULTIPLAYER FREE SPACE SHOOTER Meet people from all over the world - then kill them! Advanced chat client attached Play in hundreds of differently-themed warzones - take control of the death star or engage in trench warfare High intensity - often several kills a minute! Then scrap the instructions - just link to getcontinuum.com and put your name overall, though, it's a brilliant idea and all you really need to do is highlight the fact that it's 100% free in enormous writing otherwise it'll just be trashed like all the other flyers people get. good luck, live

great idea - good luck with it!

It sped up SS's decline

rewrite the 'wrong password' message to be more newbie friendly. Maybe have a different message if it's your first profile? Can that be done with a client update or does it HAVE to be a biller thing? I understand that continuum can deal with being sent by the staff or server to another arena. Can the safety timer expiring not kick the player, but rather send them to another arena? Support for altering some options in game. Make high ping not report the first second or longer whilst LVZ is loading. If players have poor graphics cards, the LVZ can take a long time to load and so they have high ping over 1k. If this was done, zones could implement checking for high ping. Atm it's pretty much useless. OK, those are almost wishes, rather than bugs, but i think they're pretty important.

actually, it works fine on nix Like I said, it's the gameplay that matters. ? Actually, the client is remarkably stable. why should people ever do anything then, if they're not paid for it? because they enjoy it and want to help out?

did i say anything about a massive event?

This was going to be posted in the 'sscouncil should be voted on', but it turned into a sprawling argument about SS in general, so here goes.. People have been talking about SS dying for years. Baudchaser told me about how terrible the SS community is. Most of the people i've known that have quit have quit because of the lack of new zones, and all of the !@#$%^&* talking that goes on. What other games result in lines of spam, abuse and flaming just over a loss or even one death? People have been talking about it dying for years, but recently the population has looked in terminal decline. EG is down over a HUNDRED peoplein its population from a year or two ago, at all times of day. And what of MG, Chaos, WZ, SWR, SWZ, PowerBall, RedStar, 17th, DSB and T3G? They've all lost massive amounts of population. The council should be full of active people. A council full of players wouldn't achieve anything. It'd be like keeping all of the US government, and appointing a 'council' with the power to do nothing apart from suggest things to the government. In other words, if they thought something was a good idea, they wouldn't be able to do !@#$%^&* to make it happen. Only the server owners, zone sysops and billing ops can change anything. And they just aren't active enough or committed enough. There needs to be a new client release and a BIG marketing campaign. We should have a 'Play SubSpace Again' week or month, with events in every zone across SS. All the sysops should group together and promise a BIG effort over that period to be active, to host special events as often as humanly possible, and to launch propaganda campaigns using all their influence to bring players back. There should be a separate team dedicated to SubSpace's marketing and advertising. You think that new players download the game and play it because they fancy the appeal of Asteroids online? No, new players at the moment download it because friends have told them to. We need to put forward the positives of our game more - the chat client is a massive plus. 'A chat client with a free Asteroids game' has become almost an SS-cliche. SS can be as popular as it ever was. Chess is still incredibly popular, because it's more skill based than any other game. SS is more skill-based than 90% of games. Playing for longer doesn't make you unbeatable by letting you buy super weapons and armour, like in RPGs. Every player starts on an equal footing. SS can be fun, it is fun. We just need to think seriously about its future rather than just let it ferment. Ok, rant over.

Why is Continuum Population rate going down?
LiveForce replied to Hitec's topic in General Discussion
ASSS isn't good for any zone. The new version of continuum isn't easy to install which makes newbies diffucult to play or think that this is a good game. eh? to both those points. -
Why is Continuum Population rate going down?
LiveForce replied to Hitec's topic in General Discussion
Continuum should be on EVERY free software site. We should take out paid advertising for GetContinuum.com (AdWords?). The council should make a separate team of people dedicated to SubSpace marketing and promotion. It has to be done. -
Interesting. Multiple sites work just fine, as long as they're all inter-linked and the 'official' site is clear. I think we should get AdWords advertising for getcontinuum.com.

read this, liveforce. Do you even play SS? I've never heard of you. We're going to collaborate on this. Apathy won't get the community anywhere.
