  1. thats kinda what i meant, they don't know the reason completely. Btw i just read in the newspaper that he shot his ex-gf and someone from a student council that wanted to help her first, then went to norris hall and shot 30 other students and 2 professors (one who blocked his way in front of a door to let some students escape) He shot a girl (I don't know if anyone knows for a fact that it was anyone who he was or had been having a relationship with), and apparently and RA that either went to see what the problem was, or just happened to be in wrong place at the wrong time. 2 hours later he showed up at Norris Hall and shot well over 30 students, as well as a few professors (not exactly sure how many were professors). He killed 30 people in Norris then took his own life, making the death toll 33.
  2. he was like 19 or 20 years old... how is that middle aged....? He was 23.
  3. They did all they could do with the information they had at the time. The guy was obviously determined to kill, locking down campus wouldn't have stopped him. He was a student too, he would have taken advantage of whatever place he was and would have taken more lives. Like someone said earlier, if someone robs a bank do you lock down a city? They had absolutely no reason to believe that the first shooting was anything other than a domestic, isolated incident. Locking down the entire campus (which couldn't be done in an instant, mind you), would have just created m!@#$%^&* chaos throughout the campus. No one had any idea who the shooter was, so they didn't know who or what to "look out for", especially with a student body of so many people. Again, he was set out to kill people. If he wasn't able to do it where he was originally planning to, he just would have improvised and shot up another dorm or wherever he could. I think the campus police handled the situation the best that they could. Pointing the blame at anyone who's vulnerable isn't going to help bring anyone back, and it isn't going to help prevent this thing from happening again. If someone has their mind made up to take someone's life, there isn't much anyone can do to stop them, especially when no one knows nothing of it.
  4. Well, he had been in the country since he was 8; he was a legal citizen. In Virginia, if you're of age and have a drivers license, you can buy a gun. They weren't really the most powerful guns either. He had a 9mm and a 22 pistol. Not the rarest or hardest to get of handguns. If the whole thing started over a girlfriend, that'd be pretty sad (though I wouldn't be completely surprised). If someone would be willing to throw his entire life away, as well as the life of 32 other people, over something so minor as a girl, he must have had a pretty sad life. If he wanted to take his own life that's his deal, but taking 32 with him is a shame.
  5. Yeah, they said it was an Asian guy in his 20's.
  6. The University President confirmed 31 dead including the gunman. Watching the press conference now... this is a really bad deal. They did lock down the building that the first shootings occurred in, but with the police and everything there, they weren't expecting the guy to turn up on the other side of campus and start shooting again. Maybe they should have been better prepared and maybe it was a mistake, I'm not one to say, but pointing blame at anyone isn't going to do anything.
  7. Yeah, I heard about this a year or so ago. If it's been going around that long and hasn't been implanted, I don't see it happening any time soon.
  8. Yeah, this has been around a while. One of my professors actually has it printed off and posted in her room.
  9. 23. Swim across the Atlantic Ocean 3,462 mi Lol!
  10. We should have some that are a lot more recent than that (I hope). Hopefully it'll be back up soon.
  11. You must not live in the US. Here, it costs upwards of $10-15k a year to go to college, depending on where you go. Almost everyone pays quite a bit for college unless they got a full scholorship to some school, and those full rides are definitely not given to everyone.
  12. This is a pretty horrible fallacy and shows that have either not been to college, flunked out, or went to a really crappy school. I'd say pretty much the opposite. An education, in college or just in life experience, is really probably one of the things I would call closest to the meaning of life. Education gives us wisdom and wisdom is "the art of living well." I'm in college right now, and I'm going to a fairly decent university (great place, I just hate the location). I do agree with the point you made. An education is one of the most imortant things in life. Although, I wasn't speaking really from my own opinions, just from my experiences. The majority of people go to college so that they can have the education and experience needed to get a job to make those few extra bucks. Just the way I see it, anyway.
  13. Life is all about money. Nearly everything in life revolves around money. Why do you go to school? To get an education for college. Why do you go to college? To train for a job to make money. Why do you get a job? To get money. You get money, you spend it on things you need to make more money. I'm not saying that I believe the money is the 'meaning of life'. It isn't to me, I believe there is more to life than that. I want to actually have a little bit of fun in life.
  14. Local bans are up to the zone owner/sysops. There are no local zone banning "rules".

  18. LOL! Kirk does his best! Although if he did, it'd have to say "thier" somewhere in those rules.
  19. The Village was a good movie, but I didn't find it the least bit scary at all.
  20. Movies don't scare me, never have. I love scary movies though. It's probably my favorite genre of movie to watch. I can't think of the 'scariest' ones I've seen though. Movies all seem to run together after a while for me.
  21. Wtf? You were scared of LOTR? What in the !@#$%^&* is in that movie that's even the least bit scary? And the movie cured your fear of roller coasters? I guess that's good. ^_-
  22. passing notes... how jr. high.
  23. Lol at PetSmart.
  24. What's so hard to believe about people liking this game? It's something to do when you're bored. When there isn't anything else to do, what's so wrong with playing a little subspace? Just because it's an old game means it's impossible to be any fun or any enjoyment anymore? If that were the case, then why is Super Mario Bros on the Super Nintendo so fun? It's quite a bit older than this game, yet loads fun to play still.
