I'm going to have to go with veg on this. Yes.. cord is alive and decided to read ssforum. Anyway, even when me and emb were running the zone, we would get 30+ at times, but we had to go through chats, talk to people we knew in other zones, and contacting vets, saying "we are gonna have an event tonight and a public game". People don't just "show up" randomly anymore like they used to when there was events going on daily and there were people to host them. While players did come and play public some when we were at the helm, it was mainly people who were either ad'd to, or people who were hoping to play one of our nightly events like sblball or javwar. I wish we could get those events going again, because after they occur, people play pub for at least half an hour or so and you can take screenshots (I know I, and probably most of you, have several of different pubs and events that have anywhere from 25-38 people)

!@#$%^&*o. I cannot even get the continuum .40 setup to run. I click on it and it just sits there. I have tried to do run as, but get an access denied error 5 message. Any suggestions?

Hurray for random people coming back and reading ssforums. Haven't seen these since last year sometime, but I just enjoy the fact that everyone is still whining to mike that the zone is failing.. We know this.. Vile, Telson, Vegita, Emblazon, anyone who has sysop'd in the zone realizes how much work goes into getting just 10 new people to play the zone. I know delic thought he was gonna dominate and continually bugged those of us who ran the zone that we weren't doing our jobs, but I hope he is finding out that even having a consistent population at nights is a wild success for this obsolete game. Cheers

Wtf.. my post was the same for years! Hey look! The sexy guy.. he's here... Wait for it.. NOW. Cord has entered That is all
-
It's true. We worked on and completed a ton of new events for the zone to play, and since vile tried a bunch of new ideas (and people begged for the old pub) and nex did nothing, we put the old public back and tried not to change it since people wouldn't stop saying they wanted it (when obviously we know that they didn't). But anyway, it was about keeping the zone fun and giving the people what they want, and we tried that. If Delic wants to give it a whirl, we are definitely for it, either way, the upper staff will be resigning whether the zone dies or not, let's all laugh at delic and talk trash at how he killed the zone now! Cheers
-
Sure why not, we have all (upper staff) basically agreed that we are too busy and the zone is way too long gone to try to revive, let's give delic a shot at it, since he has given every staff member crap for the past 5 years about how he would do it better. Delic, revive the zone. Laff.

After being advertised widely by a couple people, and me getting some friends in Metal Gear, Hockey zone, and Trench Wars to post periodics and allowing me to post in their forums, we are in the top 10!!! We are currently sitting at #9, with about 5 days left before the end of the month. Make sure you are voting every day if you can, I believe top 5 is out of reach this month, but we can get to the #7 or #6 position if you keep voting!
-
Make sure that you turn sound on, it's definitely worth it. Emb did a great job on these gfx so hopefully we can get some good organized events going, possibly with help from some other zones as a Halloween treat (and if they try to trick us, I'll kick their !@#$%^&*). Au revoir
-
Definitely not a horrible idea, the problem would be making sure we had updated email addresses and that players would actually be involved or interested enough in upper staff emailing them when we had event news. Quite possible to work though..
-
We are rising through the ranks of the voters!! I also posted in the RSHL forums and my team forum for HZ (where just a FEW more people see the information than we do currently ), and we started out at about 38th place early this morning. We are now closing in on 31st, with only about 8 more votes to get into the top 30 after that. Vote people, VOTE! That is all.
-
Fellow 17ther's, I am sure that most of you received an email from this forum service to go to http://www.mpogd.com/ and vote continuum (once a day if you can!) for the best mmorpg. I know that we have 500-1000 people using subspace (all zones) at any time in the day, if we can get in the top 10 or so of the voting, it may attract players that are playing some of the newer games, or show veterans that we are still around and kicking. When you sign up for that forum, don't forget to mention SSCU 17th Parallel in your voting comments or your signature Thanks for the support, and I will look for your vote!

^^^ Basically agree with all of what emblazon said. However, we do have another way of advertising and that's through your personal aim and msn accounts. I personally have like 25 continuum people in a section of mine and out of those, probably 15-20 would play 17th if asked. So if you have friends on there, let them know about the event as well. Like Snoo said, we would be glad to organize a meeting with fruity, and allow him to run this set event. Just let us know. Additionally, we may not want to say it will ONLY be jwl and then you can leave, we could possibly throw in a premier of a much anticipated other event that a few of us have been working on for a while. More info later..

Dark Nexus for life. Are you still working on that pub bot with the purpose of opening the doors to score when 2 of the 3 flags were picked up by one team? I'm still waiting for this bot.. Let me know.
-
By the way, how many people were in game when you scored your 74 goals. Because it requires there to be at least 3 or 4 playing in a certain time period to give out credits. This protects players from coming in at 5am and just scoring and scoring to get hundreds of credits. Just fyi luco

While I agree with some of the arguments for north, that it is part of at least this generation of 17th's tradition, I still think that it just provides more of a distraction to the balling game. Yes this has been said already, and rightly so. The only problem with removing the north is that 17th starts to mold into something that looks like powerball zone with different settings. Either way, I still voted aye on proposition 121 - Removal of north base.

True, despite whatever good ideas about changing pub you have, it's just very hard to do when the population is so unstable as it is. Vile had some good ideas, but changing the public and not focusing on events caused some players to go to other zones, and then if we change it again, we lose another set. People tend to like tradition, they like the knowledge that their old zone is staying the same and will be there the exact way they left it, even if they don't come but once a month. So therefore, a balance between changes in public and events, should be attained by announcing changes very well and even having public polls before doing so. We (as staff) may know what would be fun and good for the zone, but that doesn't mean !@#$%^&* if the patrons of the zone don't like it.
-
Yeah i'm down for that. Sounds like a pretty good idea to me. Just need to figure out a good time when people would be interested in coming and trying out a new event, and the new event would give credits on the credit bot for public to the winner(s). I like it trip.

The sblball was good cubs, and now with the addition of several new events that are ready to play (with others in devving stages) from Chambahs, Snoo, Manus and whoever else, we should be able to provide fresh events along with a few classics throughout the week, and what most people don't realize, is that it's not only about us sysops or staff bringing in all the pop with nightly events, but it's about you all spreading the word on the events in other zones to your friends etc, I don't want you to advertise, just be friendly and offer them the zone with our new events, bots, and gfx. Try it.

Lol those quotes are hilariously taken out of context. Priceless though, it works out well haha! I could go back in logs and find chats with you and post random comments, but unfortunately, some people do have better things to do. Keep it real khama/maka/delic. <3 from all of us working to keep 17th running and a pleasant place to play. *17th Parallel - Fully operational and persistent, defamatory persecution free since 09/2006*

That's true Telson, and that's why I'm thinking about removing the credits for Ball Time. At least that way, people won't hoard the ball until they die, they can still p!@#$%^&* without penalty, it's just slightly a problem in base when people are trying to score, but at least it means it's worth balling in pub because of the prizes. Also, we are working on some bots (with our buddy, mod, and bot dev Cubs) to prize public credits for winning in events, especially large ones. More on this soon.
-
Samaaaaaaa.. You will be missed, you were a good staffer (WHEN YOU SHOWED UP). When you get a computer, come back and see us, as most of current staff is busy with college as well, but still able to put in some hours in zone. Word.
-
True naht and veggie. I am gonna decrease the TK, which is what I assume is making it less levi friendly for you. I will make it -1 instead of the -3 I think it's currently at, and you can rack up some monster kills in levi (I saw you get like 30 credits from one game last night)
-
Most of you may have already become aware, but we have a new bot plugin (produced anonymously by NORIAKI) that allows players to be recognized for their hard work and rewarded with credits (that can be used for prizes). I am in the process of adjusting prize costs, point system, and prizes allowed (for each ship), but it is for the most part fully functional, and here is how it basically rolls. There are two ways to get credits from the bot (if you don't count being given them from a moderator): 1) There is a 15 minute cycle in which the bot will count up all your good (and bad) deeds on the field, and then will display who was the top 5 (or 3, depending on the number playing) and give you credits accordingly. For example, every kill in that 15 minutes is worth .3 credits, every assist .4, every goal .5, every death -.1 every tk -3, every steal .2, ball time (per second) .01, etc. **NOTE** Everyone will get credits for their stats regardless of whether they are on the top 5 (3) or not. The bot rounds down, so credits only take whole number form once they go on your !credits database file. 2) Everytime a game is finished (ball game), the bot will read the scoreboard stats. These stats are end game, and are normally more important (since it is the top players of the match). You will get more points on the scoreboard (currently being adjusted how many), but for example, right now if I was the leader in kills and goals on the scoreboard, I would get credits for every goal and kill I had listed. So if I had 4 goals, and 22 kills in a game (and was the leader on the scoreboard) I will get 1.5 points per goal, 6 credits, + 1 credit for every kill, for a total of 28 credits. I am thinking this may be a little too much per kill especially for very long games, so it may end up being .75 per kill on scoreboard, but go ahead and take advantage of it for now. Again, more prizes will be added soon, right now there is only bounce, super, shields, and full energy (available for all ships), and will soon be ship sensitive (i.e. levi can buy a thor but jav can't, etc). Everyone give noriaki a hug for being the sport that he is for making this lovely plugin for 17th. And let me know if you have any questions about the bot (type !help to BOT>Jay or BOT>Credit for command help). Peace

Delic, 2v2 failed because of me?? Lol!! I love this beef you have with me, but unfortunately, it wasn't my fault it failed. I had it advertised in forums, in periodics in pub, and on the news.txt.. news flash.. not really anywhere else to advertise it atm. We just had population problems. We had 20+ show up for the event each week, just not all teams. It could've been better if we allowed for scheduled times, but that would've killed the whole purpose of the league at the time. TO get population at one point like old leagues, and at least have one day per week where we could have good events and public. In essence, that part happened cuz we did get events on those days, but the league just didn't have the interest from the old players who were busy playing dsb leagues etc. Whatever the case, I know you have an obsession with me, but that flop can't be blamed entirely on me. That is all

This topic has been discussed at length before, but the point remains the same. The key to any zone is people playing public to begin with. The reason is that public begins a chain effect in several different ways. When you get 5v5 or mroe playing, normally that means there is about 18-20+ in the zone, which creates an interest for any one who likes to play 17th, but plays other zones because of population issues, to come and join. Once the chain affect from the initial public interest starts and you get more and more people into the zone and playing and chatting in a general forum (public 0), you can have several soccer games and then decide to play events. This is crucial. Public means a lot, but it is not everything. There is a delicate balance between public and events that keeps good zones alive, normally with enough population, you can keep both crowds happy at once by providing the services of a public game and event at the same time. Unfortunately for us, this is not an option until we find more steady population. Therefore, the delicate balance should mean we play several games of pub whenever possible, and when we get public going, we will host events requested or picked carefully by staff in order to keep the interest of the players, and provide a more successful zone. Good poll, just everyone has been there, seen that.
