You never know if a conservative gets elected one day and decides to invade Iran. I would oppose it, but if it happened I wouldn't want New York City destroyed for it. Besides that a more likely problem is what if Iran and Israel go to war? World War 3 anyone? What if Iran did decide to step up enrichment at a point where we're vulnerable and create nukes? North Korea did it. It's not like the regime in Iran isn't extreme I mean it IS an oppressive theocracy.

You suck.

Trust me as a New Yorker, I know first hand Guliani sucks. He reaps off the fame of 9/11, but he really hasn't done anything for NYC. If he were elected he'd be a lame duck like Bush senior. I think the moderates are so fed up with conservatives that Republicans have to run a moderate or otherwise only get the base 30% vote and nothing else. The Democratic race isn't extreme either. I see moderates dominating all around. Granted I don't like some of the moderates (Guliani and Clinton) and know very little about Obama, but Edwards seems to be the best bet of major candidates that I'd be willing to vote for right now. Bush got elected the second time by constantly repeating the same tired "flip flopper" ads and shamefully bashing a veterans war record. He got elected the first time by having his brother and campaign chairman run the "who does not vote list" and disenfranchise tens of thousands of African Americans with no criminal record to rig things in his favor in Florida. Trust me; Kerry was not the most anti-Iraq candidate. He called for continuing the war, but with greater international support. The most anti-Iraq candidates wanted to withdraw right away.

Imagine if that money were given to needy children starving to death in Africa.

You can hardly make a comparison between the Bush family and people in your neighborhood Aileron. Well of course not Bush is a simpleton elitist with all his opportunities in life handed to him on a silver platter. I don't think Gore ever designated him as a farmboy. I agree Bush does use the farmboy facade' date=' which just goes to show how fake he is. He does it to try to cover up his elitist nature because when you try to insult the Democrats for being elitists, being an elitist yourself makes you look hypocritical. Bush's political victories are owed to the brilliance of spinning by Rove and some others not to competence by the President. He's not dumb persay, he just has trouble accepting reality and uses his religion in politics. Note: Religion is rigid and does not accept anything that it does not like. Using it in politics is a travesty. Don't blame the New York times for the blunders of the Bush administration. Are you serious now? We couldn't be asking for it to be going any better? I can't even respond to this.

When our reputation is no longer devastated by the infantile handling of Iraq. While I have no problem with the Czech Republic and Poland cooperating with us (they're looking to the west after the decades of Soviet oppression) I really don't see the point for our side. Russia isn't planning on sending nuke to the US and even if they were the defense system we have would do almost nothing to stop them. As for stopping Iran from nuking Europe' date=' Europe is one of the last places Iran would launch nukes at. Europe is the place quickest to try appease extremist Islamist countries. What gain would they have? I seriously doubt it. Iran plays politics the same way the rest of the world does. There is nothing to gain from a nuclear confrontation. End of the world religious extremism is more of a Christian phenomenon actually. This is a very far fetched plan you've hatched for Bush here. This is the same guy who knew nothing about Iraq before he invaded. He really doesn't play things smart the way you think he does. This could have to do with pressuring Russia to take steps against Iran, but controlling the quality of Russian radar system to do this? Come on now let's be practical. While I agree this is a way of saying to Russia that they can no longer play such a strong hand against us, this is more of a common sense approach. There is no brilliance to this. The reason we don't do this to China is that we don't have countries so willing to be pawns in our game and because China's hand in world affairs is growing, not shrinking.

Being uneducated makes it hard to find other opportunities, though, and having to work 11 hours a day 6 days a week as my dad used to do makes it impossible to get any education while working even if he could, which he can't considering he stopped going to school after 6th grade there. He's retiring in a few years a new job isn't going to work. -

He's 60 so he's working less hours. I'm not sure how much he's making I think it might actually be 25k. You try working for even 30k a year to support a family of 5. It's easy for someone like you to climb up the ladder. You're a well educated guy. My dad's an uneducated immigrant. He took what he could get being a griller at a restaurant. The pay was alright at first, but it's been the same pay for 40 years. He's been working hard his whole life, but continues to make very little. The problem here is that in this country, while hard work could get your kids through a crappy college and they can have good careers if they work hard, you're basically doomed yourself if you're in my dad's type of situation. It's really a lot harder to live comfortably in this country than you think. I'm lucky my parents pushed me very hard. Take that away and my future would likely be in flipping burgers at McDonalds. You're really stuck with a bad situation here. You have dysfunctional families because of a lack of education, and a lack of education because of dysfunctional families. You can't magically solve the problem with families without fixing the opportunities for education so this is the best place to make a change. Tuition costs for the good universities are huge. This system readily supports class stratification. On top of that, dooming the generations of poor today with shotty healthcare and retirement benefits is wrong too. We have enormous wealth in this country and if we could get a brave leader that would be willing to stand up to the rich then maybe things will change. Tax cuts for the rich are only going to make things worse and this along with other measures Bush has taken only exacerbate the problem. That's why I'm a Democrat! -
The second you had an imbalanced teacher go on a shooting spree with a gun provided to them by this then you'd see it die right away.

My dad has been working hard his whole life, but he still only rakes in 20k a year and is going to retire with less than anyone could survive on in NYC. My parents saved because they're smart, but the vast majority of Americans, black or white, don't do the same so they're screwed. Certainly cutting taxes for the rich and losing a trillion dollars that we could use to virtually end homelessness, solve the supposedly "bankrupt" social security problem, and provide free healthcare for the poor is a huge step in the wrong direction. The Clinton years saw moves away from poverty. The Bush years saw a big leap backwards. Hopefully we can get a Democrat with Clinton's abilities back in the White House because more hard liners like Bush would rip the country apart. -
Colombia has a democratic government, however there is quite a lot of trouble with powerful drug warlords. Insane killing people for things that don't warrant a death penalty has had a long history with both Christianity and Islam. Let's not use China as an example for law unless you want to be murdered for speaking out on anything. Who's to judge whether you are following Christian based laws correctly? They try to do that with Islam is the result is a travesty in human rights. The best thing to do is remove most religious influences from law. Brazil's problem is one of the highest income inequalities in the world causes droves of disgruntled people and massive amounts of crime. The United States also has this to a much lesser degree. I agree marijuana should be legalized. In fact I see legalizing marijuana as gaining the ability to make a profit off of it the way the government does with tobacco, while at the same time making it safer and lightening the jail population to better be able to punish the real criminals.
-
"The big way to stop crime is to limit drug use." That obviously has failed miserably in the US. Make drug dealership a capital offense? While we're at it let's keep going and go under some Christian version of Sharia law. Brazil's crime is because it's a lot closer to Colombia than the US? Colombia doesn't have crime problems? You obviously have an extremely shallow and uneducated understanding of Latin America.

What about getting to that point? Did you live in a society that saw education negatively? Being poor is a great excuse for staying poor. Even if a state pays for all of college (which only liberal states do) then what about living? Who pays for that? What about a Master's Degree since a Bachelors degree is now almost useless. Sterilize everyone under the poverty line? That's about as rational as nuking Iraq to solve the problem. Sterilize everyone under the poverty line and the poorer people above the poverty line will be pushed below it so that they could clean up the bathrooms of rich people. -
ONE incident and we should ship all the Mexicans back because apparently they are taking all our jobs and doing them badly? I bet the story is much more complicated than that.
-
We give most of our jobs to people who do a !@#$%^&*ty job? I'll tell you what. You go pick tomatoes for minimum wage since you want those kinds of jobs so much. Giving some imaginary situation that might have happened once with border patrols is only going to win over weak minded people btw. I agree about Obama. There is no politician who will give you the whole truth, but if you prefer someone with a lack of experience we have Bush and we all know how well he turned out.

Difference is the vast majority of black people didn't immigrate to this country. They were brought in as slaves. The legacy of this persists today. -

Yes blame black people. The murder rates are perpetrated by poor people, of which black people have a disproportionate share. The UK has plenty of poor people. It's also no "genetic" characteristic that black people will be more violent. The UK has plenty of other minority groups. Even dividing the number of murders of the US in half we still have 1.5 times the murder rate. -
You ignore the massive crime rates in countries like Texas that are very happy to use the death penalty. The crime rates have increased in Europe due to the increased tensions between immigrants and natives. This has absolutely nothing to do with the death penalty. Tell me what's happening to the crime rates in the United States and specifically states that approve of the death penalty. DC and Chicago have crime because of the poverty and racism present with the large black populations. You can try to hopelessly mediate the problem by murdering people or you can fix the problem at its source. The way you want to do it will bairly make a dent.

A car also has such a massively useful nature. We NEED cars to survive in our modern society. A car accident is an unfortunate consequence of an otherwise very beneficial tool. A gun is to kill. All it is for is killing. When criminals can get it like nothing then police are put in danger and so are ordinary citizens. All you need to do is compare the deaths of the United States with that of the UK with their gun control. I don't know how you can argue against clear proof like that. If people want more restrictions on gun control the NRA being able to stop them means the NRA has more power than the people. That doesn't sound like a democracy to me! -

Hitler was elected...He didn't come to power by disarming the German citizenry. He came to power because of the extreme poverty and extreme dissatisfaction to the way Germany was treated at the end of World War I. Hitler came to power legally. Creating an economically successful Germany would have prevented Hitler from taking power not giving everyone guns. That's a myth that NRA lovers use to justify all the murder perpetrated by the lack of gun control. -

Because giving guns to a group of people trained to kill mindlessly for civilian use is psychotic? -
Bill Mahr are you high? Stephen Colbert uses satire on his show, not his actual opinions. John Steward is too idk? Not a credible reason.
