I can safely say that I have never been that far east on the District line Sometimes I like taking the old District line trains. But they are pretty s!@#$%^&*my. I know of Woodford (on the Central line), but as with above I try not to travel any further. Our nearest station is Mile End. Except for the occasional trip to Leyton (nearest B&Q) that's about as far east as we travel. -Hoch

Unless you can substantiate your claims that your playername was stolen by Death+, a very serious accusation in its own right, given the fact that you have already filled out a ticket (though I recommend that also try contacting BlueGoku in game) this thread is closed. -Hoch
-
Given that you have already submitted a ticket there is little if no point in keeping this thread open. -Hoch

Work/profession: Barrister (criminal; primarily). Where: a set of chambers in central London. Pay: Varies, but I sure they !@#$%^&* wouldn't tell any of lot anyway -Hoch

Although this principally applies to JDS, because X`terrania did eventually sumbit a ticket, these matters are to be dealt by filling out a netban dispute form. Whilst coming to this board may draw attention to your netban, the appropriate course of action is to file a formal dispute claim. Cheers, -Hoch

Coming on the boards ranting and raving about your ban does not cons!@#$%^&*ute disputing it. Submitting a ticket, how- ever, does. -Hoch

You will find all your queries and confusion answered in my rather elucidating explanation in the following thread: http://www.ssforum.net/index.php?showtopic...t=0&start=0 In any event, JDS has not disputed his ban. So as far as I'm concerned it's a closed matter. -Hoch

Wait, are you talking about splitting the TW server be- tween two locations? Or, starting up another TW-like zone in Oz or Kiwi-land? I remember years and years ago the idea of splitting the TW server between the US and Europe was mooted. In the end, PriitK opposed it because he did not want to split the TW community. But that was five years ago -Hoch

Shows how much you know! Don't confuse us (me) with the Billing Ops Anyway, due to a minor hiccup *cough* Rudy *cough* this situation has been resolved. Cheers, -Hoch

This thread has run over its lifespan. I can see little point in keeping it open when a thorough explanation as to the inter- pretation of the rules was given, along with its application when exceptional cir!@#$%^&*stances arise. In any event, it seems clear that on this particular point an exceptional cir!@#$%^&*stance may exist, though no action has been taken here. But it will be closely monitored. Cheers, -Hoch

In or around 1984 a spokeswoman for the US Department of Health predicated that they would have a cure for AIDS within a year or two. Now of course that was 23 years ago and medial science has made great strides. But I always have to think of that press conference when I read some making a predication about a cure. -Hoch
-
If this is indeed the case, then I would say that this is an exceptional cir!@#$%^&*stance, which then allows the rules to be read teleologically. There is always room for manoeuvrability when exceptional cir!@#$%^&*- stances apply, which would otherwise negate the rule itself. A propos, I think MTN was hinting at the fact that all you had to do was to try contacting him -Hoch

I think there is some confusion about what is meant by a public and private chat and how the rules apply to either of these in situations where a player is cross-zone spam- ming. First of all, as mentioned previously, all chats designated with ';1;,;2;, etc, are private chats (red chats). All other chats are public, i.e. blue public chats, yellow team chats. The distinction between public and private lies in the fact that private chats are given a name. For example, 'happy'. Only those told the name of the chat will be allowed to use it, whereas anyone can use a blue or yellow chat. Whilst the person that created the chat may not realise that it is a private chat because he gives it out to everyone none- theless it is one. This equally applies to zone-specific chats, i.e. 'DSB'. In the latter example, the chat is openly distrib- uted but is a private chat. Secondly, the rules governing cross-zone spamming lays down a regime, or course of direction which must first be taken before the offence becomes a netbannable offence. The first thing that must be done is that a player suspected of violating the netban offence must first have been banned locally. This is easy to verify because a Bang Administrator can just read a zone's banlist. The rule then goes on to qualify what cons!@#$%^&*utes cross-zone spamming after a local ban. This is qualified in four ways. Firstly, it refers to repeatedly switching names to avoid ?ignore. The crux of this first qualification repeatedly is switching names. This means that one single incident is not enough. The second qualification is to avoid the ?ignore. In most instances a player can be ?ignore, but this may not always be the case, e.g. zone specific chat. The third qualification is that the player must either spam or har!@#$%^&* zone staff with cross-zone messages. No defini- tion of to spam or har!@#$%^&* is given, but this determined at the time of the events occurring. In any event, there has been a slight relaxation on the 'zone staff' qualification. Anything which disrupts general gameplay to the wider zone population may in certain instances fall under the rule. The fourth and final qualifi- cation is that the player must have been warned to stop doing what he is doing. Applying the difference between a public and private chat to the rule against cross-zone spamming we arrive at the following. No mention of the form in which a player cross-zone spams is given in the rule. However, built in the rule is implicit recognition that it be done in a form whereby a player ignores the ?ignore command. But this must be read with the other qualifications mentioned in the rule, i.e. do not read it in isolation. On this basis, there may be instances other than a player sending private messages when he can be netbanned, provided all the other qualifications have been met. Unless or until the player has been banned locally and performs acts within the definition cons!@#$%^&*uting cross-zone spamming and the afore qualifications, then there is no netbannable offence. In my opinion, in the instant case, there is simply not information for me to say whether this chap should be netbanned. But I would ex- pect to see a local ban first before proceeding. -Hoch

I was just discussing this issue with a friend of mine who is a research scientist back at Cambridge University. Although he is currently working on a project for the Ebola virus, he told me that it is because of the HIV virus ability to mutate that this presents the greatest challenge to scientists. Also, there is not just one HIV virus, but at least eight or 11 variations (I can- not recall how many he said). Nonetheless, when protease inhib- itors were developed they did go along way to at least reducing the viral load. I suspect that unless something more can be done on the molec- ular level, that any developments will be an aide to living longer rather than eradicating the virus itself. I should think, however, that any advancements is a positive sign. -Hoch

Update: Argyle is away to France for work until Sunday. He told me that when he gets back he will give the request some serious thought. But tentatively he told me that it is possible. -Hoch

I'll poke him. You're not the only one that has asked about this. -Hoch

We've been asking for years for PriitK do re-enable the ?setemail command. Maybe now it would be a good time to try asking again -Hoch

Most of the sounds used are copies or excerpts from other sources So I would not be too concerned about using them in some other setting. As far as the legality of doing so, as I have stated many times in previous posts, you should not concern yourself too much with using sounds and/or images. Yes, certain legal rights are attached to them, and yes inappropriate use can incur some form of legal liability against an un- authorised user. However, and this is more of a big 'but', those with a legitimate legal interest in these things would have an onerous task to enforce their legal rights. In other words, they would actually have to do something to stop you (or anyone else for that matter) from using these things. Personally, I do not see that happening but it is always a possibility (just a very long shot ). -Hoch

Copyrighted material typically expires after 70 years. So uhm yeah, someone clever enough with a proven legitimate interest in the game could in theory assert their right. However, as with most things legal there is a difference be- tween having a right to something and enforcing your right in that thing An SS Society! Brilliant idea! I wish I had thought of that when I was at college. Then again, I was too busy co-founding the Pro Bono Society -Hoch

One zone cannot copy another zone's map and/or settings !@#$%^&*ociated with that map. Mind you, it is more or less a gentleman's agreement, but it is widely observed. Without playing in either arenas, I can say that the layouts are not the same. There are some similar features, but I do not think it is enough to say that the Chaos map of ?go battle is a copy of Alpha's ?go battle. If your original position is not amenable, then ask Bargeld to get involved. But again, without having played in either one I would say that they are not the same. -Hoch

Silly people, GS could have done it on a smurf nick -Hoch

We tried to get a new score site up, but as with most things it requires PriitK's !@#$%^&*istance, or him allowing someone to have the necessary access to billing to get it done. At this point, most of us are content with having the long promised update released -Hoch
