So I noticed the population counts in most zones are back down to their true values. A job well done to whoever was responsible for this. Now I think it's time for Hyperspace to step up to the plate and stop inflating the statistics.

My how things have changed. 10 years ago when we first cracked the idea of a new central forum system to compete with SubSpace Headquarters' ForumHQ this game was on a comeback, web traffic to the sites was insane, and the community was active and involved. SSForum was a 2am idea (as I use to call them, 5am for rowen) me and rowen came up with. It actually took a few weeks of discussion, talking with CybeRise and other people to decide to pull the trigger. Until that time, SubSpace.net had gone from having their own forums, to having sub-forums on GameAddict's forums, to using SSCentral.com's forums, and then back to their own. SSCentral.com hopped between ForumHQ and…

Thought it might be fun to take a short walk down memory lane. Some of my favorite anecdotes and pilots, randomly: Sasquatch, who spoke no words except for Sasquatch> "Sasquatch!" that he'd randomly yell in pub. Always got a kick out of this Wormhole Fiend, who would spend his day rotating around the wormhole, waiting to trap victims with his wall. Most unique gameplay style ever? Dino722, for longevity, class, and tomato sauce... Montezuma, a friend, for fanning the flames and always adding a splash of Down Under. Nobody incited more politically charged discourse! C H I R P, whom patrolled the tunnels during my nascent days. Another great playstylist! Eth…

Welcome to the 2nd edition of Chaotic Chat, a bi-weekly column focused on turning real community questions into real answers. With the debut of Hamburglar's Trivia event (every Wednesday @ 10pm ET) and the massive Streaks/Sprees update, it's a busy month for Chaos, so let's get started: Question #1 - Why is the safe zone limit for streaks set at 10 minutes, and not longer/shorter? (anonymous) A. In looking for a word to describe what streaks were supposed to be, 'streak' was chosen based on multiple definitions: Move quickly in a specified direction, MOVE, an unbroken series of events, UNBROKEN, a continuous period of specified success or luck, CONTINUOUS. When Ha…

dotproduct is an HTML5 online multiplayer asteroids-like space shooter that my friend at Google, I, and another team member are developing. Presently, it is only available to play through Facebook authentication at http://dev.nanavati.net:8000/. The first official game event will begin at 5PM -6GMT (Central Time / Chicago), or about 30 minutes from time of posting. I invite you to come and give this game a whirl. =) You need either Chrome, Firefox, Waterfox, or Safari (or a browser that can handle HTML5 and websockets). At this time, dotproduct is most optimized for Chrome, but will work fine in Firefox. Controls reference: http://dev.nanavati.net:8000/img/keys.png …

Greetings, As of this morning we now have zero customers; everyone has moved and found another service provider and webhost and migrated their websites. On June 30th (this coming Thursday at the time of posting) I will be shutting off BlueT and SSCV indefinitely and erasing related files from the server. I appreciate the opportunity MikeTheNose and PoLiX have given me with SSCV and truly wish I could have continued zone hosting (but due to inherent circumstances of my particular situation I cannot); thank you guys! SSF is still in my daily routine of checking forums and websites, but I haven't really touched Continuum in many months. Wish I could have had this opportu…

The case begins with the banning of a player named Joon. According to the story, there is a player named Axe, and another named Joon.. Joon said something Axe didn't like, and had Joon banned from SS because of emotional distress. That appears to be the entire case lol Now, we can't expect Axe to understand anything about free speech because he isnt an American like most of us are, so we can naturally expect this sorta thing from people like him (turd in the punchbowl). Next, the case takes a further turn when the admin became sympathetic to Axes cause, they banned Joon. So, it seems they are complicit in this thing.. and we had all better watch out.. or else we m…

Just wondering what the criteria is for names not to expire exactly? So far what i gathered was Joining a squad Having some ?usage I'm wondering how much usage exactly. And how long that usage will let you hold the name. How often do names need to be logged into? Once a month? Once a year? Some names expire/reset if not used. Is there a forumla based on the usage for how long a name lasts? 100 hours gets you 2 years no logins? 500 hours, gets you 5 years no logins etc? Login resets timer? Is it even that sophisticated?

Greetings, Here is a video of what Sharvil and I have got of dotproduct: Video from 2012-07-14 - Video from 2012-07-13 - Video from 2010-10-31 - Play - http://dev.nanavati.net:8000/ Here are some tips: * Use Ctrl or Alt to fire guns; Alt is definitely good for Mac OS X users since Ctrl and CMD are bound to system-wide commands * Use Tab to fire bombs * Use Arrow keys to move around * Hit Enter to start chat (and hit Enter again to submit) * Pickup greens to get upgrades (bomb+gun upgrades, instant energy recharge) * Hit a number 1-8 if you want to change ships (need full energy, limited to 1 change per 3 seconds) * When you fire weapons, your energy (aka shiel…

Until further notice I have shutdown the SSCentral.com directory server. This is due to issues with Snrrrub's directory server crashing when wanting to connect to "sharvil.nanavati.net", and no source for version 1.1 which fixed other crash bugs from 1.0 (source available). There seems no point in running a back up to "sscentral.sscuservers.net" if SSCU/SSCX directory ports are blocked by their server firewall. If their directory is offline and sscentral's crashes, it won't be able to receive the zone information from the servers on a restart (an issue experienced a couple times before). The sscentral.sscuservers.net directory has proved stable for some time now, and …

Welcome to another edition of Chaotic Chat! Ok, the 1st edition. OK, OK, the only edition! So what is this all about? Last week, I gathered a few great questions/observations from the community (thanks again guys!) about our favorite zone. Here they are: Question #1 – I noticed a broken link in the public bot messaging. Can that be fixed? A. This has been fixed and will be released soon! Question #2 – Whatever happened to Subspacechaos.com? A. Subspacechaos.com is gone for good. The official site for Chaos Zone is now chaos.subspace.co Question #3 – There are broken links on chaos.subspace.co. Can these be fixed? A. Staff is aware, and link repairs are now …

Today I have rolled out a set of major new revisions to the bots. Please let me know of any anomalies that you see. Giving me the time and day could be helpful. Most of the changes are not externally apparent, however there are some nice new goodies already available. These features are still being developed and refined, and so, as always, feedback and suggestions are welcome. Streaks and sprees are being moved to permanent storage in the DB. This means you be able to look at your own, historic streak record, as well as the best streaks and sprees of the day, month, etc. With this rollout, streaks are completely reset! This means everyone has something new to…

TRIVIA NIGHT will be Wednesdays at 10pm ET. I will be online before to remind people, but watch for the announcements. Generally, I will do 3 or 4 sets of 5 questions each. I would like to award each set winner with 100 bounty points, maybe more. If there is an OVERALL winner, i.e., someone who wins the most sets, we might give a rabbit bonus or the like. Still to be determined... If you have ideas on Categories, we will try to oblige. Practice round TONIGHT at 10pm ET and category will be general trivia, perhaps some science at the end if people are participating. -hamburglar

I played subspace a long time ago and then quit to play other games. I got the urge to play quite a while back, but could not remember the name of this game. Finally remembered and am so glad it's still alive!

So l tried to enter Chaos Zone and I get the message that my name 'Hitlers Oven' is obscene and restricted. What a joke? You must be joking right? Meanwhile people can fly around being a Penis or a Vagina, and talking about sex with 12 year olds. (Hece, Marbred) But sexually explicit names are fine because we are all adults? (Which by the way is not true) If you were adults there would be nothing wrong with my name. To me, seeing Penis in a name is more offensive. And IF we are going by what offends people. I'm sure we would end up banning half the names in subspace. So again VERY weak argument. Like hitler didn't have an oven for baking cakes? My name is historical…
