So you can't click the start button for the start menu and you have no desktop icons?

btw it's Iexplorer.exe

explorer.exe is always running (it's a core windows process). In versions of windows prior to win2k, if explorer.exe crashed, or was not running... then you essentially had no operating system. If explorer.exe froze, then your OS would crash. If you couldn't run it, then your pc wouldn't boot.

Sounds like time for a re-install of the OS.

A reinstall? Wooh, drastic measures there, barg :D

Most likely some trojan has replaced explorer.exe and then screwed itself over and stopped working.

Here's my explorer.exe, copy it to c:\Windows and give it a try.

explorer.zip

It's just alsways been my policy... If the OS is screwed up, you normally don't 'fix' it. System restore, driver re-installs, virus scans, and ad-ware scans... sure do 'em. But when you have probs with explorer.exe or a persistant BSOD or 'illegal operations'. Then you know the OS is hosed. I just never feel confidant working on a machine with a patched up OS, and usually, you will still have little residual problems that you will have to live with. If you think about it, it broke because of something, and you still don't know what that is.

OS re-installs can be annoying, but after you do it a few times, it isn't so bad.
