Rixsta Posted November 25, 2005 Report Posted November 25, 2005 Been learning java at uni about 3 months now, so i thought it'd be useful to apply this knowledge to something practical at least, so i was just wondering if theres any information about creating bots using java, development tools, information on classes methods etc.? I've covered the essentials in java and we've done quite abit of SQL which could potentially help, i feel content with it, breaking up for xmas soon so i'll need to carry on developing my java skills and making bots seemed an interesting way to do it... also any information on the best way to test them would be useful? Sorry i did look around but i couldn't find too much information, quite alot of places to download bots but not much information for actually developing bots from scratch and the programs you'll need, maybe even a tutorial. Cheers
»SOS Posted November 25, 2005 Report Posted November 25, 2005 From scratch? That would be unwise without some experience. But you might want to code plugins - they are the actual important things that bots work with. If you use Java then TWCore is the way to do. You should be able to find it on www.subspacedownloads.com.
»D1st0rt Posted November 25, 2005 Report Posted November 25, 2005 http://twcore.twzone.net I've got some tutorials you can get started with athttp://d1st0rt.sscentral.com
Tex Posted November 29, 2005 Report Posted November 29, 2005 (edited) Hey Rixsta, I know you play a lot in 17th, and even though I know Java, cause I take a course in school. I find that Merv is a lot easier than the Java Core. If you need some help with it you can PM me and I will give you some pointers. Warn this, Sos why don't you look at the !@#$%^&*LE of the thread. Yea... GG. Edited November 30, 2005 by Tex
»D1st0rt Posted November 30, 2005 Report Posted November 30, 2005 In my opinion, MERV is easier for script kiddying and TWCore is easier for doing a lot of actual programming. I would base the decision of which core to use on the zone itself, writing for whichever core is being hosted.
»SOS Posted November 30, 2005 Report Posted November 30, 2005 Keep on topic. Create a new thread if you want to discuss the merits and pitfalls of different bot cores. Tex, you got a second warning.Distort, come on, you're my buddy moderator, don't permit the topic to go off track
»D1st0rt Posted December 1, 2005 Report Posted December 1, 2005 I was merely presenting another viewpoint to give the person requesting advice other options to consider. If you want we can hack up this thread and take out off topic content.
Tex Posted December 1, 2005 Report Posted December 1, 2005 Ahem, That's what I was doing D1stort, but I guess he can't warn you, delete your post, and leave a crappy message to you. Can he? Wait, I have to post something that directly ties into the post or I amy get another warn.... MMav left our zone and we have no BOT Devvers but me and Dark_Nexus, so if you want to code in 17th just come talk to me and I will get you started.
»SOS Posted December 1, 2005 Report Posted December 1, 2005 I was merely presenting another viewpoint to give the person requesting advice other options to consider. If you want we can hack up this thread and take out off topic content. Well, the way I see it, he's Java developer. Saying that MERV is good is not much use for a Java coder at all... so I consider it off-topic or just basically useless.
»D1st0rt Posted December 1, 2005 Report Posted December 1, 2005 I have a feeling things will only go downhill from here, so I'm gonna close this.
