»Maverick Posted November 10, 2005 Report Posted November 10, 2005 At my work I am behind a proxy server, blocking about every port except for web (), mail and messenger.I am wondering if its possible to use Continuum through this proxy without asking admins to open up ports (aka, is it even possible)?
»SOS Posted November 10, 2005 Report Posted November 10, 2005 You can use a tunneling program. I haven't used one myself but I remember hearing about a few people using them. I don't know any specific programs, but Google might help with that. Basically, you have to set up a special proxy somewhere and then install a tunneling program on your proxy computer and your work computer. Of course if the firewall at your work happens to be very intelligent, it will most likely detect that even though the tunneler is on the web port, it's not really doing any web accesses.
GoodFellah Posted November 12, 2005 Report Posted November 12, 2005 (edited) I heard that you actually do need to have an admin open ports.. Just need to find which ports to open. Anyway, anything you do is cached right? What my teacher does at work is, he does what he wants on the computer after school.. then deletes things in his cache. Edited November 12, 2005 by GoodFellah
»SOS Posted November 12, 2005 Report Posted November 12, 2005 No, opening of ports is not required and it would not even work well, if at all.
GoodFellah Posted November 12, 2005 Report Posted November 12, 2005 Heh, not what I said worked.. its what I heard in a converstation
ntfx Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 (edited) You can set up a vpn (openvpn worked for me) or use ssh tunneling which is quite easy to set up and can do almost anything. Edited November 15, 2005 by ntfx
