can't get on DSB -- most annoying problem ever

OK, let me begin by saying I have four computers going through the same router. Three can connect to Death Star Battle, or any other zone, no problem. The fourth can connect to any zone EXCEPT DSB, the only one I play. Yes, I have reinstalled. I have wiped out all the folders first. I have even run Continuum off of my other computer. It always does the same thing, exactly this:

DSB shows OK ping

I click to enter DSB

On a new install, it will download the entire zone

I will enter DSB, and be able to see everything like normal

It will disconnect with "No data coming from server"

I am not banned. I am friends with some of the admins. I am not banned. It can't be my router. It is not my firewall, I turned it off. The computer can play all other zones. I have exactly the same antivirus and antispyware on this machine as all the others. I am a computer programmer, on Windoze, with a lot of experience and certifications, so I'm (probably) not missing anything too re!@#$%^&*ed ... maybe ... I hope not. I have an internet software company, selling Windoze utilities. This is embar!@#$%^&*ing.

I deleted all references to Continuum from the registry, and reinstalled. Same thing.

If you have a PayPal account, I'll send you $10 if you can solve this problem, no kidding.

Interesting.

The first two things you should try are:

1) Try swapping the wires of a working compuer with the non-working one at the router.

If that has no effect:

2) Try another NIC in the problematic computer.

Also, how much time passes between these two?

I will enter DSB, and be able to see everything like normal

It will disconnect with "No data coming from server"

I have had that problem aswell when my computer was really busy doing other things. I think my computer didn't respond to server calls too soon and the server disconnected me for that.

This might be the same thing happening to you, what kind of computer has the problem?

Other things I can imagine right now; Maybe there is alot of packetloss to the DSB server for some reason. A trace might say otherwise so you should do that to exclude this reason.

No luck.

Swapped it with a working one, no change.

There is always about a five second lag. The starfield moves, then it goes blank, then about five seconds later the full screen appears, I hear bells, engines, whatever ... but always NO DATA COMING FROM SERVER.

It is an old IBM Aptiva. I played Subspace on it for years, even on dialup. It is my slowest computer by far, with maybe a 500 mHZ AMD, and with XP and all that junk it does run very slowly. The memory can't be upgraded past the 256 MB it has.

For some reason, when I do traces they just ping from 1 to 2, showing no info, but with good performance. I can't get it to give me a trace right now, because it just pings from 1 to 2, but I did this trace on one of my other computers and it looks just like the traces I do on the computer that won't play DSB:

There is red packetloss, quite high as you can see, but if that is the problem, it only stops one computer on one zone. Is DSB different from the other zones in some way?

Trace looks fine. 0% is the correct packetloss number, those 94% are irrelevant.

There is always about a five second lag

That could very well be it. The default lag kickout delay for zones is around 5 seconds. If your Continuum is loading the level data for longer than that (which seems to be the case), you will have been kicked out by the time it's done.

To see exactly how long it takes, turn on caps lock and scroll lock before starting Continuum. Then it creates ssdebug.log in its directory with timed events about the level load.

Perhaps some recently installed program has slowed your computer down beyond the critical time limit?
