»CypherJF Posted August 15, 2003 Report Posted August 15, 2003 I think a good addition would be gravity bombs/mines. (Similar to those in CosmicRift). Have a server option under each ship setting similar to empbomb=0/1; except have an option gravbomb=0/1/2 - 0: None, 1: Absorb - which would pull enemy ships towards its center, 2: Repel - Just as an option, it'd push enemy ships away from it. I'm not familiar with internal continuum client-server coding, but I would imagine the physics for wormholes and repels could be re-used in the case of these bombs. Gamers like toys ... I think this would be a cool addition, if someone were to code it in. - CypherJF & Splat!!!!!!!
Femme Posted August 15, 2003 Report Posted August 15, 2003 Would be an interesting addition, at any rate. I'd be interested to see it working.
»CypherJF Posted August 15, 2003 Author Report Posted August 15, 2003 For those who are "Unsure/Don't care", could you please write a reason of "Unsure" and/or "Don't care" so then we could possibly explain any questions you might have? Thanks, CypherJF
»SOS Posted August 15, 2003 Report Posted August 15, 2003 Posting suggestions is pretty pointless. I'd say it is a pretty safe bet that bug fixes is now as far as this game is going to get while PriitK is in the lead.
»nintendo64 Posted August 15, 2003 Report Posted August 15, 2003 SOS, and the sad part it's that most of the bugs that are getting fixed were introduced by PriitK, in each new version. -nintendo64
»CypherJF Posted August 15, 2003 Author Report Posted August 15, 2003 Well, it may be true, but you gotta think that at least we have a subspace client still being available to us ... I'd rather still give suggestions just incase... Doesn't Mr. Ekted have the sourcecode also, where he could continue the development? -CypherJF
Yupa Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 ekted has a small part of the source which is necessary for his task (the front end) as far as I know Priit does improve the client, though, it makes be back and forth every now and then, but it does improve
»SOS Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 nintendo64: bugs popping up is totally natural, that's nothing special akai: I don't think... hmm... ee... there was LVZ and... what else? Anyway, one non-trivial update in years is not enough for me
Yupa Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 ya it's slow but we have more image format support now and though there are lots of bugs involved with it, it's still nice
Mr Ekted Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 We don't share code. We defined an interface between Cont and menu and code to that. If I had all code, Cont would be at about 0.60 by now with new weapons, ships, specials, more settings, an MP3 player, file sharing, stock trading... I may be exaggerating.
Kadith Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 heh... sound like too much in one package to me

»SOS Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 Come over here people, let's arrange a burglary to PriitK's house and get the source code ^_^
»CypherJF Posted August 17, 2003 Author Report Posted August 17, 2003 Come over here people, let's arrange a burglary to PriitK's house and get the source code ^_^ LOL... -- I have no money for the flight oversea's harhar... ... It'd just be easier for Priitk to give it to someone who he trusts ... Oh well.. - cypherjf

Excel Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 Unsure/Don't care..... mainly because I know that it will not be done by Priitk... but a good idea.
ExplodyThingy Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 He ought to live by what i was told at work (Theater tech). If you were hit by a bus on the way to work, could somone take over your spot? Something worth thinking about. At least have an archive somewhere where if PriitK were to get hit by a bus, someone like Ekted or someone trusted would be able to pick it up.
Evil Jin Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 id like the mp3 player part then i could add alot of new sounds without worring of making the dl over 600 kb.
Guest Liddo-Kun Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 someone should make a list of "good" ideas that would help contribute to the ss community - then send the list to PriitK and/or Mr. Ekted and then they would decide which is best for everyone! maybe I should do it? - Liddo-Kun
Mr Ekted Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 Rather than inventing new specific weapons to add, I would prefer to see a more generalized weapon definition system. An arena could define any number of weapons and their properties... NameImage(s)Fire rateEnergyMovementBounceProxTimer (I would love to be able to have weapons that detonate after a time period, or even manual detonation by shooter)etcetc Subspace as it is has weapon settings too interlinked: shrap controlled by bullet damage, all bomb levels do same max, mine = bomb damage and prox, thor related to bomb, burst related to bullet?, multi related to single fire, a given weapon of a given level works the same for all ships, etc. It's really a pain in the -*BAD WORD*- to get exactly what you want, and some stuff is currently impossible (eg different bombs for different freqs, but same properties).
Guest Liddo-Kun Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 should I start the idea list? i need your permission or PriitK's (which would be rare to get) XD
»SOS Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 Good, Ekted thinks like me My plans to take over the world are working ^_^ Liddo-Kun: By now it's pretty clear that nothing will ever be added to this game anymore if it requries over 1 line of typing for PriitK.
Yupa Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 Does priitk even read these forums :? as far as I know, (except for the random thread that someone notifies Priit about) Priit only reads the Bug Reporting forum and only when a new Continuum has just been released
etrigan Posted August 17, 2003 Report Posted August 17, 2003 This is an ages old dilemna with SS. Someone correct me if im wrong.(Mr.Ekted hehe) But I was always under the !@#$%^&*umption that the code was never made open, to combat cheaters and the like. Sorta like security through obscurity. Which is a bad security model btw. And unfortunately has been proven to be a bad model in the past. OR (conspiracy theory time!!!), that some of the Continuum code contains some of the original SS code, quite possibly given to Priitk by a friend from VIE. Such code if public would raise some eyebrows with whoever owns the rights to VIE stuff now(EA??? i forget)...sooo keeping the code secret would keep Cont/SS safe for now.(told you it was a conspiracy theory!!) Personally I'd like to see Continuum on sourceforge. Wasnt there a port to linux awhile back that sorta disapeared?? On a side note(that has nothing to do Cont code): Back in the days, late 80's early 90's there was a single player game called Continuum on the Macintosh. When I 1st played SS I always thought it reminded me of Continuum(mac)...later when Continuum(the new SS) came out, I almost crapped myself.....just an odd odd odd coincidence...or was it? proof!! for those of you that have a 300 year old macintosh classic:http://wuarchive.wustl.edu/systems/mac/amu...um-1.03.sit.hqx lol enuff for now...
