i got a 600kbps net and when i enter continuum i get disconnected after 1 minute of gameplay.

this never happened before... i can play other games online, access the internet and even make normal downloads... =anyone can help?

What reason does it give for disconnecting?

A trace of around 50 cycles could also prove useful.

WARNING: Disconnected from server (no data)

it happens after some 30 seconds - 2 minutes of gameplay.

my ping is not bad, it is about 160 average. before it disconnects i can play as if i were playing normally.

by the way, i just tried to get in disconnecting all cables from the lan except mine, still not working. thought it could be some problem on lan but i connected my net cable directly to my moden cable...

this problem started like 2 days ago out of the blue :/

I have this exact same problem at home, although my disconnections only occur every 10-30 mins. I have had the cable co. come out to fix it... they found one prob, but it didn't, ultimately, fix the problem.

I would suggest leaving a trace up overnight, or for a few hours and see what results you get.

a trace up? what would that be?=) excuse my ignorance hehehe smile.gif

If you're running bittorrent and Windows XP SP2 that will also cause problems due to the limit on the amount of connections SP2 allows (10 max and bittorrent gobbles them up). I would often get disconnected while running BT. As soon as I turned off BT it was fine.

1st: That's not quite accurate. It's 10 TCP connections per second which really doesn't affect Continuum, since it doesn't use TCP.

However, yeah, BT will still make playing worse because it'll use up other network resources. The Windows networking system can often break in really funky ways if you're running a P2P app.

I would suggest that after doing the trace you also try and get a network bandwidth monitor (NetLimiter or some other) and start a really big download and let it run for 15 minutes or so. See if you notice any spikes or something in the graphs. Could be that your connection is just dropping for a few seconds now and then.

(I hate networking problems, they're all so funky and can be caused even by having bad breath, so to speak ;) )

ok here is the screen shot of the trace =) its kinda greek for me...

and ya, i am using sp2 on xp, one of the pc's in the lan has emule turned on 24/7, but at 10 download, 10 upload. i tried doing a big download (700 mega) and the download rate was constant at all times, 59.5 kbps

hmm, im still having some trouble getting into the game without getting d/c

the problem isnt the p2p, i have everything shut down except continuum and i still got d/c

the screen shot is a trace with 175 cycles

see the packetloss? based on those traces, I would say you shouldn't even be able to play at all!

Ask a sysop of the zone to do a *info on you and check your packetloss, as they can get more detailed stats than the trace can.

Based on the traces though, I think that disconnections are to be expected.

I would also like to mention that 59 kbps is about the same as 7 kB/sec (dial-up speed)... if you have a 600kbps connection, you should be able to reach close to 70 kB/sec (I think you meant kiloBYTEs (kB), not kiloBITs (kb).)

Regardless, that's not really an UBER connection to the internet... most cable and DSL services can provide anywhere from 100-300 kB/sec downloads (you have 60-70 kB/sec).

kylobytes per second, or in portuguese, kylobytes por segundo. kb p s blum.gif sry if im wrong but u pointed out another wrong thing, that packet loss is for the 3 innactive servers i got on my list, Hockey, Mistic kingdom and metal gear, the rest has no packetloss whatsoever...

im still experience that problem... =(

The 3 'other zones' you mention have nothing to do with this trace...

A trace is basically showing the path from point A to point B. When you 'trace' a zone, you begin recording the information about each 'hop' or piece of equipment (routers, etc.) along the path.

The 3 with bad packetloss are NOT the 3 servers you mentioned, they are 3 routers or other networking equipment, in a row, between you and your destination.

Oh, it won't fix your lag. But, it'll let you access more zones. Just click on Zones > and then download the zone list. Like, mystic kingdom hasn't been on that server in..months. It's been on SSI.

I recommend calling your ISP and telling them about your packetloss. If you tell them which routers the packetloss is at they should hopefully find a solution.

Nononononononono.

Stop right there. There is no packetloss!

For all intents and purposes, the last hop is the only one that counts. It has no packetloss in that case. Any intermediary hops do not give meaningful packetloss information and are only to be used for theoretical guesstimation.

Let me say this again: there is no packetloss problem!

Now, back to the issue... does this happen with another computer on the same network? That could narrow it down to a network or computer problem.

There is no s!@#$%^&*?

I don't care whether the last hop has no packetloss or not... Reported ploss, like those 3, indicate problems.

its true, i have 0 ploss at all moments... the lag is because of the distance from the servers i guess...

i cant test continuum in other computers besides this one, but the strange thing is this, it was working perfectly until, due to the innate insurgency of the inanimated beings (love this phrase) it stoped working... bah :/

I rather like that phrase as well :D

Although, I guess you could contact the ISP and hope they can solve it (yeah, right! I hear ISPs are not meant to solve problems :D) or you can hope for the good old beings to become restful and non-interruptive again.
