RocketGib Posted August 26, 2005 Report Posted August 26, 2005 I've noticed quite a bit of activity in regards to creating a newer, more stable client for our game. I think its time that we get started on such a concept. This new client will probably take advantage of the Bold3D engine and Direct X 9.0. Just imagine, playing your favorite top-down game, but with the added 3rd dimension -- yeah, pan down a little bit to see around the corner, or get a good look at that sexy new banner on your ship's wingtip. This is all possible with the technology that is available. I have located a 3d engine that is free that can be used. It is very stable and framerates should not be an issue. However, I think that most users should consider upgrading their PC's anyway. After all, Subspace is 10 years old. Most processors don't last that long anyway. heh. So, lets start a list of things that you would like to see in this client (if it were built). Maybe some new ships, or is there a weapon you've been spamming PriitK's PM about that you want really bad? Post it in here. Also, if anyone is interested in joining the project team, please e-mail me at rocketgib(at)future-outpost.com Laters!RocketGib
»SOS Posted August 26, 2005 Report Posted August 26, 2005 Huh? Ok, go ahead, do it. (You might want to look around this forum a bit, though )
Samapico Posted August 26, 2005 Report Posted August 26, 2005 SS won't be the same in 3d... especially for modding... developping zones will be much different and not accessible to anyone as it is now
Smong Posted August 26, 2005 Report Posted August 26, 2005 Nah you just need half decent intuitive mod making tools so the average player can make mods. It's not like you must edit every possible setting to make a new zone. Have fun making this new version I hope it comes out within a year.
RocketGib Posted August 27, 2005 Author Report Posted August 27, 2005 It will actually be much mod-friendly. Mainly because you can model any ship type you want. There will also be a new particle system, plus dynamic lighting around bases. It would still maintain the same theme (space ships flying through mazes) but would have an extra dimension of view.
