RocketGib Posted August 22, 2005 Report Posted August 22, 2005 Ever since I reinstalled Windows XP Professional with SP2, I've had nothing more than heart-ache when it comes to running Continuum. I've tried multiple versions, but for some reason the process just bounces around in the background, unable to be shut down (unless you completely log off). My suggestion to the community is that a new development team be formed to create the next version of Subspace/Continuum. Apparently PriitK doesn't care anymore because he has moved on to bigger and better things (KaZAA and Skype). When would a guy like him have time to upgrade a free project such as Continuum? With all the upgrades that Microsoft has been feeding us lately, I'm not suprised half of us are unable to run the game anymore. I've tried all the options suggested in the tech support forum to no avail. If continuum was picked up by a new development team, the game could be expanded upon further. Maybe the implementation of particle system and top-down 3d map design would be in the works. After all, Subspace is 10 years old this year, it's time for a makeover. I don't see the possibillity of a Subspace 2 from any major game publisher as it seems that space games are not as popular as FPS. I understand many users want continuum to remain compatable with their hardware configurations, but with the technology that is available, further expansion is a must! I hope PriitK considers possibly handing the project over to a new development team that can continue updating the client. I know the main reason such code has not been released in the past was due to the excessive amount of cheating. Unfortunately the client's security upgrading has been neglected and cheaters once again reign on the network. I heard that SOS had spoken to several anti-cheat program publishers about possible implementation of such software into future versions of the game, but apparently it would be quite a diffucult task to accomplish. Places like punkbuster only support games that are still in the retail market, not freeware playerbase supported games. I don't know guys, where should we go from here? I think its time that someone pick up where PriitK left off and continue upgrading this thing! There is much to be done, just check out that wishlist in this forum!
OutlawGene Posted August 23, 2005 Report Posted August 23, 2005 Although yupa if he does it in certain ways ( do not ask you will get no response ) he could have disadvantages.
»SOS Posted August 23, 2005 Report Posted August 23, 2005 The way I see it, Continuum is doomed just like SS was. I think I could make a twister replica in a week. That's what's wrong. PriitK did a fine job mangling the data in memory but he neglected some important parts. Because of that, [...] can easily access the data. And players are beginning to cheat in ever-increasing numbers. !@#$%^&*, I was able to make myself immortal in 2 minutes yesterday, on my first try. There is a simple fix. I would fix it, but I cannot imagine how I could convince PriitK to trust me with the code. If I were him, I sure as !@#$%^&* would never give it to anyone... The crashing/not loading problems are secondary but I'm sure they are also rather easily fixable. I considered showing up behind his door to have a chat, but he's not in the phone directory...

The whole integrity of the community has gone down the tubes over the years. I really wanted to bring back Future Outpost too. I really hope someone takes over the project, even if it means writing a new engine for the game and basing it off of the Subgame we are currently using. Maybe that should be updated too, as there are many missing features in that as well.
RocketGib Posted August 23, 2005 Author Report Posted August 23, 2005 I just found a cool looking 3d Engine that could be used. However it may come down to the point where subspace is no longer in 2d, but will be in full 3d. Sorta like CNL was before it vanished. http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Way/7233/ Tell me what you guys think about this engine?
deadonarrival Posted September 12, 2005 Report Posted September 12, 2005 ctm's biggest disadvantages: the bugs and errors (general vulnerability) and it's not just your PC with all the new updates that wont run ctm right, i've tried with multiple installs/versions of win9x and XP, and rarely if ever is ctm bug-free for long
»SOS Posted September 12, 2005 Report Posted September 12, 2005 I think I might have it already... but I doubt he'd listen to anything on the phone Meh, Continuum is dead. I'll just try to get my own version done fast -_-
»D1st0rt Posted September 14, 2005 Report Posted September 14, 2005 Can't you do a reverse lookup on his address if you have the phone #?
»D1st0rt Posted September 14, 2005 Report Posted September 14, 2005 You need to get a friend who works for the phone company (or some other utility)
The Apache Posted September 14, 2005 Report Posted September 14, 2005 how far is the project along then? is the new client nearly finished, sos?
