If a staff member of a zone gets insulted on a cross-zone chat... is that enough to warrant a netban?

Perhaps a better approach would be a lengthy local ban followed by an entry into the staff member's ignore.txt file.

Anyone have an opinion on this?

Absolutely, 1st, but we just crossed from one netban rule into another rule. Here are both rules pasted from Swift's policy:

Cross zone Spamming - Following a local zone ban, repeatedly

switching names to avoid ?ignore, then spamming or har!@#$%^&*ing zone

staff with cross-zone messages, after a warning to stop. Maximum 7

day net ban for first offence.

Har!@#$%^&*ment - Continual har!@#$%^&*ment of players, zone operators, or

server hosts in real life. Examples include contacting ISPs to shut

down zones, or researching private player real life information and

proceeding to har!@#$%^&* or stalk them in real life.

I think a critical part of the policy is the "real life" which was said three times. Not to mention the examples given are hardly along the lines of disrespect or questioning some one's authority. My recent netban (which caused my original question) was for 7 days and included none of the above.

Lets define har!@#$%^&*ment.

Har!@#$%^&*ment

To irritate or torment persistently.

To wear out; exhaust.

To impede and exhaust (an enemy) by repeated attacks or raids.

Vegito was banned for less then a day for both har!@#$%^&*ment and spamming cross-zone. He was warned multiple times over the course of a couple weeks and has a history of this kind of abuse.

There is a line where this kind of behavior can be tolerated, until that line is crossed there are other options available to deal with it such as ignoring the offender. However once the line has been crossed the only available option left is a netban.

If you don't like being netbanned for severe cross-zone spamming and/or har!@#$%^&*ment I suggest you refrain from doing it. Other then that, you will have to live with it.
