You let them risk screwing up the computer and taking the responsibility for example if you damage the CPU while installing a heatsink. A warranty for parts is only good for as long as the company hasn't gone bust (a common thing for budge components). Doing it through a manufacturer usually gets you a better deal warranty and insurance-wise and they'd get you equivilent replacement parts if the previous component manufacturer went bust. The reward you get from building your own PC isn't in the savings or the belief that you've learned something in the process. All you want is the -*BAD WORD*- thing to work after you've done all the screws. Getting it from a manufacturer means they're legally obliged to ensure that this is what you get and within a decent timeframe too. Quote

Fluffy White Bunny Posted September 23, 2003 Report Posted September 23, 2003 Now...back on subject...this happened like a year ago but it just came to memory:I turned on my computer as I always do in the morning...didnt change anything....and when I opened Cont. I noticed there was a much higher res available than what was there before. I normally use 1600 by 1200...but this one was something in the 2000's by 1900...i think...and so I set it to that option and entered a zone. After I entered the zone...everthing seemed to load ok...in a much higher res than I was used to...but a red message (I believe it was from my monitor) came up in the middle of the screen that said "PC SETTING CORRECT?" and then the monitor shut off after 10 seconds. Appearently my monitor didnt like that res, although everything looked perfectly fine for the 10 seconds. Then the next day, things were back to normal, with a max res of only 1600 by 1200 in the menu...and it hasn't come back since. Anyone know what might've happened that one special day? No, I didnt change any settings or mess with drivers or anything...it was just an avereage day. I want that really high res back!! Quote
