»SOS Posted June 23, 2005 Report Posted June 23, 2005 This is a known problem and there is no good solution to this. You can check the FAQ topic about this for some advice but it does not work for everybody.
Guest mr banana Posted June 23, 2005 Report Posted June 23, 2005 :/ ahh well it installed on this pc b4 , then i reset it to factory settings and now doesnt work oh well at least i have it installed on my dads pc . still wud b good if ne1 has fixed this problem and cud tell me how...
Bargeld Posted June 24, 2005 Report Posted June 24, 2005 If you search this forum for similar problems, you might come across something that helps you.
Guest mr banana Posted June 24, 2005 Report Posted June 24, 2005 im on a different pc now and continuu mhas been installed on this 1 for months and been working and now all of a sudden wont work, thats 2 pcs i use both dont work ... pile of !@#$%^&* both with the same error
»Maverick Posted June 24, 2005 Report Posted June 24, 2005 Then you must be running the same spyware crap on both computers or something like that. Run 'dxdiag' and test some stuff out, the problem must be there somewhere.
L.C. Posted June 24, 2005 Report Posted June 24, 2005 My cousin is having trouble launching Continuum.exe too. The machine he installed it on uses an AMD CPU, so it probably isn't the CPU causing the problem. Me and my cousin both use Windows XP Professional, so I don't think it's WinXP either. My cousin tries to open it, and nothing happens.
Bargeld Posted June 25, 2005 Report Posted June 25, 2005 you will find, by searching the forum, that this issue is a common, recurring error. The culprit, many times, is an antivirus or anti-spyware app that needs to have continuum added to it's 'allowed programs' list.
Guest Guest Posted June 26, 2005 Report Posted June 26, 2005 mr banana- i have spyware doctor installed on both pcs thats the only same programme on both
Guest Guy with the same problem Posted June 29, 2005 Report Posted June 29, 2005 Actually it might have something to do with a dll file somewhere.. I am having the exact same problem but it is because i uninstalled some generic file. I bet i can guess what the problem is. First you press continuum but then the pointer flashes, if you proceed to task manager you will see continuum hop around, so you can't close it. If you then decide to reboot, shutdown, or log off, it will say some problem with starting due to a dll. I don't remember what it I uninstalled.. I will see if I fix it and get back to you.
Bargeld Posted June 30, 2005 Report Posted June 30, 2005 sigh, that is covered elswhere, and the .dll isnt the problem... what is happening, is that continuum is continually opening and shutting down, that's why it bounces in task manager. Then, you decide to shutdown (while continuum continues to open and close) and eventually the system WILL be attempting to shutdown when continuum is trying to open. So windows whines that the .dll !@#$%^&*ociated with continuum won't run because windows is shutting down. General forum hint: beware information from 'unregistered' users. 100% of the time, it has been some "anti" spyware or "anti" virus app that doesn't like continuum, or vice versa. Disable/uninstall/allow continuum in each of those types of programs that you run. Eventually it will run, when you figure out which app is the offender.
Guest Guest Posted June 30, 2005 Report Posted June 30, 2005 I had this problem and found the only way i could get it ro run was by right clicking on the icon and selecting run as, make sure the current user is ticked at the top and protect my computer is ticked. The only problem with doing it this way is everytime you run it its like the first time, it refreshes the zonelist and any options you changed you will need to do again. names/profiles etc are remembered
Guest mr banana Posted July 23, 2005 Report Posted July 23, 2005 ok i selectaed run as and continuum opened but the zones wont finish downloading and say zone could not be loaded :/ all i wanna do is play continuum , can someone help me with this problem pls
Guest mr banana Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 now continuum opens yeah the zones refresh- then i try going in trench wars and it loads up to 100% then goes to click int othe games and says zones could not be loaded :/ anyone know what to do please?
Bargeld Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 it's definately a permissions problem. The zone files aren't able to be downloaded and stored in the Continuum/Zones directory. Can you log into windows as an administrator (or an account with admin priveledges)?

BeWaRe Posted July 30, 2005 Report Posted July 30, 2005 One of them said they reinstalled windows and it started doing said issue.. Thats what happened to me. There are no programs running in the background to cause the app not to open. Sometimes it will open if you try to run it a few times..a lot of the time it wont even open with run as. Very annoying. (Yes, I read the other thread.)
»SOS Posted July 31, 2005 Report Posted July 31, 2005 All I can suggest is another reinstall of Windows...
RocketGib Posted August 22, 2005 Report Posted August 22, 2005 SOS, I've had this occur in the past. I just reinstalled continuum and have disabled Spy Sweeper/McAfee with no luck.. The process just bounces around in the background and wont shut itself down!
Maximas Posted August 25, 2005 Report Posted August 25, 2005 Okay, hi this is going to be a little long but it should serve your purpose just fine. As Mav has pointed out in the past numerous time...STOP USING RUN AS, that is not the soloution but a bandade to the problem...and I can tell you one of your main problems You said that you were running spyware Doctor and that you said you didn't think that it was it....guess what it is. I have the same program and when I began to disect that problem I found that my windows firewall (Norton System Works) once put the proper allowances (which is not just the exe by the way...if you are going to add the continuum to any program for exceptions you have to add the continum.exe, and the continuum.dll to the exceptions list). Like I said earlier thou the exceptions list for Spyware Doctor don't work properly so what I did was made shure that it didn't run on start up and I only opened it when I wanted to sweep my comp and closed it when I didn't need it. So your steps to make ss work are as follow (not a gaurentee but 90% shure that this will work1)STOP USING "THE RUN AS MODE" for the client2)Make shure Spyware Doctor is not booting with computer3)Make shure your adding the continum.exe and .dll to all exception lists4)Make shure (you said that you were on broadband) that your router is not blocking any ports that it needs to communicate.5)If all else fails make shure windows Firewall is off any Anti-Virus is off, any Spyware is off and that it doesn't boot with computer (basicly so no programs are booting on start-up that are watching your applications/processes, and the restart your computer and the first thing you should do when up and running is start the client. *If this does work with just steps 1-4 then you know it was Spyware Doc and problem solved (just like in my case). *If Problem was solved with just step 5 then I would suggest closing the ss client after sucsessful start and opening one program at a time [E.X. Windows Firewall (with exceptions already allowed remember!), or Spyware/Anti-virus. Remeber one at a time and if it still runs, close that program just opened and move along]. Reason for this is to more identify which program is making this happen.BECAUSE GAURENTEED IT'S A PROGRAM THAT ISN'T LETTING YOUR .DLL INITIATE. So test this out and best of luck! Your friendly PilotMaximas
Guest Guest Posted August 26, 2005 Report Posted August 26, 2005 maybe my computer is treating continuum like a virus now? Blame Microsoft! This never happened until the recent patches. :S
candygirl Posted August 26, 2005 Report Posted August 26, 2005 Its not microsoft. I have spyware Doctor and microsofts firewall running at all times and i have yet to have a problem playing continuum. And i have freedom running in the back. Can you give a list of what progs you have running when you bootup.
Guest RoLYroLLs Posted September 3, 2005 Report Posted September 3, 2005 Hey guys. For quite some time I could not open continuum either. It would open and close constantly and the process doesn't let me kill it through Task Manager as you guys have had. I finally ran into this forum and I, too, have Spyware Doctor. I did a few troubleshooting ideas you guys have offered and here are my conclusions: 1) I thought it may have been Norton Anti-Virus 2005 (NAV) with that new feature about internet worm protection since candygirl says her Spyware Doctor lets her run it. First I disabled Spyware Doctor's On-Guard protection thing and preventing it from starting when I turn on my computer, and NAV all together. It still didn't work so I rebooted. I made sure my NAV was disabled (both internet worm protection and Auto-Protect) and it opened! Hurray! I tured Auto-Protect back on and again it opened. I turned on internet work protection and added continuum.exe to the program control list and it opened. I also removed it from that list just to see and it worked again. So I kinda ruled out NAV. 2) I opened Spyware Doctor and saw On-Guard disabled. And it did not work. I tried logging off and back on, Spyware Doctor was not running, but continuum would not start up so I rebboted just in case. As soon as I booted back, with NAV fully enabled and without openeing Spyware Doctor, continuum opened fine. As soon as I opened Spyware Doctor, again continuum did not open and I had to reboot once again. I looked through Spyware and found the process guard feature had blocked two processes. When I looked at the list, both were continuum.exe. You can click on it, it allows you to choose an option to add it to the exceptions list. I also tried adding it to any other list I could in Spyware Doctor (don't remember which.) After rebooting just in case, again continuum failed to open with Spyware Doctor open. I conclude with, if you want to use Spyware Doctor, I suggest we find out how to let Spyware Doctor allow continuum to run, as I have failed in my few attempts, with my lack of knowledge of Spyware Doctor. Maybe candygirl can share her settings with us. Hope this helps. I can play continuum again! Hurray!!! -<Rr> F-18 RoLYroLLs
