I used to play SubSpace/Continuum regularly on the same cable connection that I have now, but ever since 6 months ago, I can't play in any zone at all without getting very quickly specced for packetloss of upwards of 8 percent.

I don't know what the problem is. At some point last year, my dad decided he wanted to buy an LCD monitor so he could split the cable going into the modem so that it would go into the monitor as well so he could watch TV on the computer if he wanted too.

Then, about 6 months ago, we accidentally somehow deleted our Operating System or something and the computer crashed and we gave it to this maintenance guy who works for my dad's office to fix it.

He reinstalled all the files that had been lost, and also upgraded the memory as well as the video card.

Also, the cable modem used to go into a USP adapter and then into a USP port, but now it just goes straight to the ethernet card with an ethernet cable.

Those are the only things that have changed since I used to play Subspace all the time and had no problems, so I don't understand why I can't play anymore.

Someone suggested that the packetloss might be how the ISP people laid the cable connection but that doesn't make sense because it was that way before and worked fine... (we've had the same cable ISP for years, and no, it's not AOL).

Please help!!!!! I need my Subspace fix!!!!

Thank you...

Did I understand you correctly? The cable goes into the modem, TV and monitor, yes?

If that's the case, make sure that both the monitor and TV cables have filters on them. Otherwise, the internet signal to the modem could easily get distorted by the TV or monitor. That distortion would cause major packetloss which seems to be exactly what you're experiencing.
