mister manners Posted September 17, 2003 Report Posted September 17, 2003 mister manners blatantly went off topic and he is now discussing methods to cheat, I can't believe the moderators tolerate this kind of stuff.coughcough if u read the whole topic, its all in thereand i AM working on a sscheat 4 l@mers who want to lag like -*BAD WORD*- to cheat... i make software for loosers flbl (for l@mers by l@mers)
madhaha Posted September 18, 2003 Report Posted September 18, 2003 Which is a good thing because if you program as well as you "hack" then thier computers will implode and we'll all live happily ever after.
Guest Nemo Posted September 18, 2003 Report Posted September 18, 2003 I know the calculation is clientside but I thought feeding the acceleration to everyone, a constantly changing and unpredictable value which you can't extrapolate, would be very difficult to keep in sync. If you can prove otherwise, I'm happy to go with it. What do you mean by "feeding the acceleration to everyone"? You aren't giving any more data than you already give. Also, I don't know if you watch that closely, but in SS/Cont, I performed a small experiment. If you send your ship traveling full speed West, then turn off thrusters, turn right to face North, then engage thrusters again... the ship does not immediatly roll completely onto its right side. Some sort of routine is being used to slowly roll the ship over. If this same process were to be used for other ships, then constantly changing acceleration calculations would not matter, because they roll smoothly anyway.
»nintendo64 Posted September 18, 2003 Report Posted September 18, 2003 meh, i doubt mister manners will figure a way to cheat. -nintendo64
ExplodyThingy Posted September 18, 2003 Report Posted September 18, 2003 He said its just a lag utility.

mister manners Posted September 18, 2003 Report Posted September 18, 2003 He said its just a lag utility.true, and i have seen others that do 1-24 lag, it l ping tw server with data, so u can lag, i ll do the sane thing just more potent, and professional than ping 66.34.0.184
»nintendo64 Posted September 18, 2003 Report Posted September 18, 2003 A Lag utility? that's old, most people can do one or just use another application like Kazaa to induce lag, it's not exactly easy to detect if it's on purpose or not. Just use a Bot to spec the people that are lagging too much so that pretty much kills mister manners "cheating" idea. -nintendo64
madhaha Posted September 18, 2003 Report Posted September 18, 2003 He meant a lag spoofer that works by sending random crap constantly instead of proper subspace packets to fool the server into thinking he didn't lag. I'm guessing that this won't work because the server won't respond in that manner and because if your connection is bad anyway, your packets are still going to take a long time to arrive. In fact I'd be surprised if you don't get banned quite quickly... A bot can be used to detect people with abnormal ping figures and kick 'em in the nuts. Getting back on topic, what I mean is that the "rolling" won't correspond with what is actually happening but there is probably some fundamental flaw in my reasoning so I'll shut up and let Priitk not implement it
»SOS Posted September 18, 2003 Report Posted September 18, 2003 It'd be pretty easy to implement roll from volocity differences. It should not be inaccurate at all.And the overhead would be like... 0.01ms each tick.I'm not sure on how the game calculates roll, but if it works just by velocity, no problems found.
