Phyran Posted March 3, 2005 Report Posted March 3, 2005 what really piss me off about ASSS is that the zones with ASSS always ask me to upgrade to buggy .39 prX =_= I like my continuum .38
Yupa Posted March 3, 2005 Report Posted March 3, 2005 !@#$%^&*S is far too unrealistic to ever be implemented. It would take far too much effort to change something that does not need to be changed. The most I see coming out of ASSS is it being on dead zones for the rest of its existance. Why are we trying to fix something that isnt broken. There is no real need to completely trash the current server software and add in some "magical" ASSS software that will fix every known problem in ss. It wont. As far as I'm concerned the things ASSS does are not major enough to change my zone, or to convince any other zone for that matter to convert to ASSS. It is far too much work for a community basically run by very few compitent people in the first place. I'm not attacking the software, but I think people should probably stop wasting time with it.It is obvious _you_ do not understand. The server software DOES need to be changed - Why? Because subgame is the same software from '96 or whatever that has been _hacked_ a lot to support Continuum and its changes. On top of ASSS not being a great big ugly hackfest, it's much easier to port and has a lot of totally sweet features subgame will never have.what really piss me off about ASSS is that the zones with ASSS always ask me to upgrade to buggy .39 prX =_= I like my continuum .38That will be fixed eventually - but...honestly, I've always considered .38 much more buggy than .39pr1
Dr Brain Posted March 3, 2005 Report Posted March 3, 2005 Anyone who's spent a great deal of time using the ASSS sysop commands will never ever go back to using the wimpy subgame ones. ASSS >> Subgame
»SD>Big Posted March 3, 2005 Report Posted March 3, 2005 ASSS greater then greater then subgame?? TWICE??? MADNESS
Dr Brain Posted March 3, 2005 Report Posted March 3, 2005 >> Means much greater than. It means it's at least an order of magnitude greater. >>> is much much greater than. At least two orders of magintude. Etc...
Phyran Posted March 3, 2005 Report Posted March 3, 2005 its mostly the installation part that pisses me off =\
»D1st0rt Posted March 3, 2005 Report Posted March 3, 2005 as³ is so great, even when right shifted it's better than subgame
Grelminar Posted March 4, 2005 Report Posted March 4, 2005 Nobody's mentioned lag comas for months, so I !@#$%^&*umed it wasn't a big problem anymore. When was the most recent time you (or anyone else) observed it happening? Anyway, lag comas are just a bug, not a fundamental feature of the design. A tricky bug, to be sure, but something that will be fixed. Edit: I just looked at the relevant code again (after not thinking about it for months), and realized that I'm doing something really dumb. I think fixing the dumbness might go a long way toward fixing lag comas. I'll try to do it this weekend.
EdTheInvincible Posted March 4, 2005 Report Posted March 4, 2005 Lag coma = not really an issue (they happen very rarely now) unless you get players who know how to exploit them to their own advantage.
Dr Brain Posted March 4, 2005 Report Posted March 4, 2005 I'll admit I haven't seen them in a while. I'll also admit to not having 30 players in the zone since about September. Glad to know they might be fixed, though
»Maverick Posted March 4, 2005 Report Posted March 4, 2005 Im wondering; is there an advantage for the regular newbie ss player playing ASSS instead of subgame? With that I am not going for all the advanced features ASSS might have, but especially for gameplay which only a newbie ss player would notice?
Dr Brain Posted March 4, 2005 Report Posted March 4, 2005 /?sendfile has been wonderful for the players. They really love it. Let us not forget what Hyperspace did to gameplay, either. The transwarp system I used is 100% impossible under subgame. The buy system isn't easy with a bot, either.
Phyran Posted March 4, 2005 Report Posted March 4, 2005 I'll admit I haven't seen them in a while. I'll also admit to not having 30 players in the zone since about September. Glad to know they might be fixed, though <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I hate you and your playerbase D:< j/k...I'm just jealous ;_; *goes back to my dead zone*
»D1st0rt Posted March 4, 2005 Report Posted March 4, 2005 why don't you come to our (currently dead) zone? There are usually a few people to at least chat with
Phyran Posted March 5, 2005 Report Posted March 5, 2005 why don't you come to our (currently dead) zone? There are usually a few people to at least chat with<{POST_SNAPBACK}> never...soon...=_=it shall stir and rise from its grave....
Chambahs Posted March 6, 2005 Report Posted March 6, 2005 well, after my zone is done with ASSS, you will see how much it is great, and brain is right, i dont think i ever wanna go back to subgame after ive seen sysop of ASSS lol, alot of people who have tried out commands and seen its features are still amazed, so in my opinion, when people arent scared/too busy to download something new and try it out, they will see how much fun ASSS really is, the regions feature alone makes it worthwhile
Phyran Posted March 8, 2005 Report Posted March 8, 2005 never...soon?<{POST_SNAPBACK}> never, soon it shall conquer the world etc.
The Maurauder Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 Unless i'm mistaken multiple commands can be used per chat entry in ASSS. In subgame you have to do them all separately: Wasting time or fiddling with macros. Events could be started in half the time, ad everything could be done in one press of the enter button.
»D1st0rt Posted March 13, 2005 Report Posted March 13, 2005 That is correct, you use | to break up commands
»1587200 Posted May 20, 2005 Report Posted May 20, 2005 Can I program bots in C++ or TCL? If so, it might bring in a lot of programmers from IRC who are getting sick of eggdrop scripting.
»SOS Posted May 20, 2005 Author Report Posted May 20, 2005 Perhaps C++, but definitely C. You've been able to code C++ bots all the time though...
LiveForce Posted June 14, 2005 Report Posted June 14, 2005 uh yeah.. well BZ will be alive sooner rather than later.. we have some awesome stuff planned, and i want to take advantage of the 'wow factor' that will be available to us if we show off what it can do before anyone else. I disagree that eg's ASSS test is the make or break for the server.. ASSS WILL become the dominant server. All that a failure in their test would mean is that its development would be slower.
»SOS Posted June 14, 2005 Author Report Posted June 14, 2005 But when will it become dominant? After .39 (in 2010)?Still, good luck with your zone. I want to see some advanced !@#$%^&*-powered zones
Demishadow Posted June 14, 2005 Report Posted June 14, 2005 To add... Premier league is looking at the issues/complications of moving towards ASSS. I hope to get premier ready to run some tests over the offseason. Demishadow
