blur Posted February 22, 2005 Report Posted February 22, 2005 I have the error where Continuum wont load, but only keeps cycling in the process list. I fixed it by using the "Run As" command, but now when I open the game (like its the first time) and I try to download a map I get kicked (always after 8% - in any zone). This is the error I got: Error: Unable to create zones\SSCX ChaosLeague Zone SVS\bdhadar.lvl I have Radeon Omega Drivers on my xt800, which I re-installed to no avail. Quote
HUFF Posted February 22, 2005 Report Posted February 22, 2005 If you don't have administrator access on your computer it will give you that error message. If you have permission to download files like that, I don't know. Quote
blur Posted February 22, 2005 Author Report Posted February 22, 2005 I'm administrator, as are all the 'users' of my computer.. Quote
Bargeld Posted February 22, 2005 Report Posted February 22, 2005 check to make sure all the game files/directories are NOT set to "read-only" Quote
»SOS Posted February 23, 2005 Report Posted February 23, 2005 Actually, that's why "run as" is marked as a partial solution in the FAQ. It simply is a very poor workaround. It is supposed to not let you write to any files, so you will probably not be able to play with "run as". Quote
blur Posted February 23, 2005 Author Report Posted February 23, 2005 so is there any way to fix the bug without reformatting my computer? Quote
»Maverick Posted February 23, 2005 Report Posted February 23, 2005 You might want to use scandisk on your HD so its sure this error isn't caused by HD bad sectors. Maybe a bit pointless, but you also might want to check if you have enough diskspace. I have never had problems with Run As... command and downloading stuff. (I think...) Quote
»SOS Posted February 23, 2005 Report Posted February 23, 2005 Mav: Read the text next to the checkbox in the "run as" dialog blur: Check the FAQ entry about this (Why won't Continuum load?) and get rid of any of the listed programs and try everything there. Quote
»Maverick Posted February 23, 2005 Report Posted February 23, 2005 Yea I know SOS However that protection isn't 100%. Sometimes I have had continuum save to files (in this case, profile) while running it in Run As.. mode. It also downloads and saves .lvz + .lvl files fine in Run As.. mode with me... Quote
»SOS Posted February 23, 2005 Report Posted February 23, 2005 Hmm, that's odd. But I can't test it since all it does in "run as" mode for me is give an error code Quote
blur Posted February 23, 2005 Author Report Posted February 23, 2005 I have none of these programs installed - believe me I've tried virtually everything.. I thought it might be a video error, but I dont think its that either. Oh yeah I have over 100 Gigs free - is that enough for a subspace level? (har har) Quote
»SOS Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 Hmm... ok, give us your system info. Here's how to do it: Type "msinfo32" into the run dialog. Then select File->Export and save the data. Then wait a few minutes (it can take time) and attach the file here. Quote
blur Posted February 24, 2005 Author Report Posted February 24, 2005 Specs file attached.specs.txt Quote
EdTheInvincible Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 hmmm.. huge attachment.. i wonder what it does Quote
»SOS Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 At first glance, I spot AVG Anti-Virus running. Remove that and see what happens. I'll have another look through the file tomorrow morning, when my head is clear, and I'll let you know what else I find. But yeah, see what getting rid of AVG does. Quote
»SOS Posted February 25, 2005 Report Posted February 25, 2005 Ok, on my second look, I also found AdAware, which falls into the "suspicious" programs group as well. Also, I found about 30 probable trojans in your auto-start list and one in memory (mfdcfg.exe). That could also be causing some trouble. Quote
»Maverick Posted February 25, 2005 Report Posted February 25, 2005 (lol ... Ad-Aware and about 30 trojans on your computer) Quote
blur Posted February 25, 2005 Author Report Posted February 25, 2005 I know that AVG is not to blame. I have removed adaware but that didn't help either. Quote
blur Posted February 26, 2005 Author Report Posted February 26, 2005 This problem started before I ever downloaded that program. In fact, AVG was intended to be a fix for the loading problem. I thought that it could've been a virus before I saw that a bynch of other people had the same problem as well. Quote
»SOS Posted February 26, 2005 Report Posted February 26, 2005 I see. Well, I don't see any obvious causes then (although you might want to try getting rid of that trojan - it shouldn't mess with the game, but I guess some very smart trojans could set off Continuum's alarms). I guess only PriitK or a bucket of luck can fix the problem for you Quote
blur Posted February 26, 2005 Author Report Posted February 26, 2005 Yikes - well a reformat should solve the problem though? I had wanted to avoid that.. its a sad day when you reformat just for Subspace. Quote
blur Posted February 26, 2005 Author Report Posted February 26, 2005 Could someone attach the file here so I don't have to download it? Could that work as a byp!@#$%^&*? zones\SSCX ChaosLeague Zone SVS\bdhadar.lvl Quote
»SOS Posted February 26, 2005 Report Posted February 26, 2005 Yeah, format should stop it. Unless you manage to install the misbehaving program after a new install too I attached my chaos dir. Quote
