On lameness

Well, as someone pointed out recently, there hasn't been much in the way of subspace politics in a while. So, I'll start this thread and see what happens...

 

What is your opinion on lameness? What is it? How horrible is it to you? etc.

Lameness doesn't exist. It's just something new players accuse other ppl of when they get owned too much.

Yeah. Most of the time, lameness is just strategy.

As a zone creator, I factor lameness into my settings. I take account of it.

 

However, my legislators do not figure my figuring into their rules, and usually outlaw what I would consider perfectly acceptable things.

Anything, exploit, behavior, or otherwise that is detrimental to gameplay or the zone is considered lameness by me. Lameness is something that has no actual benefits except for the ego of the lamer, and annoying other players.

No such thing. As already pointed out, it's an excuse others use.

 

I have played T3g many years now, lameness is encouraged.

I say lameness exists, but is overused by players with huge egos who couldn't find someone to duel with so they go to pub expecting everyone else to duel.

 

Lameness exists however, because there are some things some players do that is downright despicable, should be illegal, and usually are...some examples:

 

 

Turning on anti-warp in the center of a flagging zone so that the other team can't attach

 

Using the ball to kill somebody who is afk in a safety zone

 

teamkilling intentionally for w/l ratio

 

Staying in a safety zone, and using either a friend on a smurf name or a second computer, piloting a second ship that would fly to the safe and let the other player kill him.

 

 

Basically, things like that are lame. Everything else is fair game.

Bot takes our anti away most of the time. The areas that it doesn't (Which still effect center) you need to be directly up against a wall unmoved, which is difficult to survive by doing.

So the lameness is tolerated to a point.

 

Ball killing is legal save for center (Which has goals all around it)

In a super zone like ourown, you need to be able to kill a base anchor.

 

w/l Ratio's are near nonexistant. You need something of 500/0+ to even get noticed. Those that earn it fairly are generally hunted until loss or spec.

 

As said, lameness encouraged... Players generally get theirs in the end by death and/or other means. I would barely consider a *spec to be justified punishment for any of those offenses.

 

As others comment, you will see opinions based on the specific zone rules. Only the antiwarp would be considered universal laming.

All I'm !@#$%^&*erting is that lameness is behavior like that, as opposed to vulching or using a burst in a tight space.

I have always felt that cires of "lame" (that is, that particular saying rather than some others I could mention), are just people who, unable to adapt to a persons tactics, merely decry them as "against the spirit of the game" rather than change their fighting style/strategy. This way their inability to cope with the different abilities of different players is somewhat masked (at least to themselves).

I know...its weird...every time one of these people get on my case, I must create a post about, even though I know they are whiny noobs.

 

The only sucky part is that when you try to argue back, they end up challenging you to a duel, which is exactly what they want because that forces you to play their tactics.
