Raem Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 I personally prefer mobile flags, but I don't play 17th for the flags, there are other zones for that. But since dev are so crazy about having flags in pub, why not put back the stationary flags in east/west bases and just add a ?jackpot win to them? More relevant to the ball game that way, IMO at least. Quote
StockholmSyndrome Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 I see no point in the flagging my self. -It annoys those people who chase a red dot thinking it's a ball carrier.-When it's on you, it attracts every time wannabe-hunter around you-It adds nothing to the whole point of 17th Public - the ball game Maybe you shouldn't be trying to mix and match the map around. Place flags into increase points for those dieing for bounce, but make them stationary please. Put say 5 or 6 in a suitable location/s in a base.  3 clumped together on outer base and 3 clumped together in inner base prehaps? Make a limit on the flags in each base and set them in appropriate places. That way it shouldn't detract from the ball game, it keeps things simplified for the newbie (like me ^^) and means that the team filled with dirty, filthy weasels won't hunt me as much :\ Oh one more thing; Remove this king of the bounty king. It annoys me... inspiring those who can't kill properly to come and try and lame me constantly as well as pulling people to the side to spend half an our greening... Does it do anything productive?? X`terrania Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 What really pisses me the !@#$%^&* off, is that after the flag game is over it resets everyone's bounty and bounce.I'm sick of !@#$%^&*ing losing that. Quote
Telson Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 I also like that idea better Raem, and i did mention it in the staff forum a few days ago... I like the jackpot idea but the movable flag wasnt mine or Dev's idea. Quote
AndurilFlameoftheWest Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 I dunno wtf has gotten into the 17th staff water lately but slow down on the freakin changes, i mean next thing will be an overhaul on the settings. Keep the flags as they were and either put more of an emphasis on them or bring back king of the hill. You got points based upon you killing and staying alive without losing bounty. So no to moveable flag. Quote
Raem Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 Well, by dev I meant the people responsible for zone development, pern included..(in other words, WHOEVER MADE THE CHANGE IS PART OF ZONE DEV, WHY DON'T YOU GET IT MAU?)but anyway, if there's gonna be a ?jackpot, you should come up with a way to fix the problem X`terr mentioned Quote
The Maurauder Posted January 4, 2005 Author Report Posted January 4, 2005 Dev had nothing to do with this. Lets just say vile didnt take his medicine... Quote
Naedhaha Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 I kinda like the movable flag. In a way it adds skill to flagging...lol. But to be honest i dun play the game to flag so i don't really mind either way =/ Quote
Samapico Posted January 5, 2005 Report Posted January 5, 2005 Moveable flags1- sucks2- are useless3- causes a big problem that X`terr mentionned... Quote

»Maverick Posted January 5, 2005 Report Posted January 5, 2005 What I really suggest to do is to put 4 stationary flags in the exact middle of the map (where the announcebox used to be).Remove the movable flag and remove the flags from the base. What you get is a flagging game in the middle and a ballgame all around it. I'm sure this will work. Quote

Have someone set it up, and you will see how wrong you are.I don't like the idea of a jackpot, but having a static flag game would be better than a mobile flag, in the zone's public arena. Maybe it would work better if you could preserve bounty/specials after the jackpot is won, but I'm betting there's a perfectly good reason why that can't be done. Quote
Vile Requiem Posted January 5, 2005 Report Posted January 5, 2005 but I'm betting there's a perfectly good reason why that can't be done. Ya, the settings do it themselves when they award a jackpot.  Miller Lite Ref> Attempt at sarcasm...DENIED :megaman: Quote

I have several things to point out to you fellas. There is almost nothing we can or cant do that wont irritate someone.  Exampler: If you want points for the flags, then you have two options: 1. The server does it like normal, and everyone scoreresets.. 2. The bot issues it, resets the game, and grants you points. Whats wrong with the bot giving points this way? It sets ALL points to FLAG points, your kill points are converted to flag points, your rating zeros out. Sorry. So either live with a 0 rating or a shipreset every game. For movable flags: If you dont want kill ASSS chasing you around because your a giant friggin dot on their radar, dont pick up the flags. Not too hard. The reason for you being so bright and obvious on radar is to remove the advantages flags sometimes offer. This is disableable to a certain degree. Main point of pub: You realize the old zone description was "Fast paced turf style action?" The arguement that were screwing too much with pub by having flags is hereby moot because of that little known secret that soccer actually screwed with pub Quote

madhaha Posted January 7, 2005 Report Posted January 7, 2005 We want turf flags. We LIKE turf flags. If you're going to ignore the poll then why did you set it up in the first place? Stop trying to make something we don't want partially work and give us turf flags. Quote
Zeke Posted January 7, 2005 Report Posted January 7, 2005 I remember before when Nurps and I talked about mobile flags, and when I left the 1st time, what happened when he put them in... history repeats itself? This zone is turf, the idea is base soccer... keep it that way, and the zone will prosper (maybe). Of course, you could always dig up that map HotLavaKing made, and the settings I put with it, and try a moving flag game like I was going to in a sub arena. Naturally this will involve a bit of "work" to do. Â In any event, movable flags in 17th have always and will continue to be a bad idea as long as the current basic base setup and ship settings are used. Change the map to fit in for a good flag/base game, or leave it be. I'm with the others when said, "Bring back KOTH!" If I remember right... I helped to lobby it in, in the first place. Â - Z Quote
AndurilFlameoftheWest Posted January 7, 2005 Report Posted January 7, 2005 (edited) Yeh at this time there are moveable flags in pub, may i ask why are there moveable flags when there is a poll here to determine whether to have it or not? And when the vote is 10 for no moveable flags to 6 who want them. Perplexing... Its also strange that if the emphasis has been on the ball game that you now give people two choices instead of emphasizing the one choice. If you had the individual flags be captured by the team in one base and you protected them for a certain amount of time that you recieve the jackpot, instead of counting on individuals to do the work your counting on the team to recieve points and win the ball game. Or, King of the Hill. Edited January 7, 2005 by AndurilFlameoftheWest Quote
Tempest Posted January 7, 2005 Report Posted January 7, 2005 Main point of pub: You realize the old zone description was "Fast paced turf style action?" The arguement that were screwing too much with pub by having flags is hereby moot because of that little known secret that soccer actually screwed with pub<{POST_SNAPBACK}>It matters little what 17th was in the past- it's now a soccer-based zone and has been for as long as I can remember. You can't simply argue that 17th is a turf flag zone because some outdated description describes it as such when most, if not all of the players think otherwise (an !@#$%^&*umption here, but one that I think is relatively safe to make). The moveable flag is interesting. I'd prefer it to KotH: I can't recall many players who actively sought to win KotH. Most seemed to regard it as a convenient bonus. The flag seems to make people more involved in the game, which is a definite plus. And I've heard that the bounty / shipreset problem's been fixed. The other problem seems to be that it still detracts from the ball game somewhat, but we'll probably always have that. I don't see the advantage of reverting to turf flags at the goalrooms of both bases. People don't seem to care about them all that much- some take time to capture them when they score, but few seem to care too much about lighting up a few baubles that they stumble across whenever they score. I think we ought to give it a chance. We want turf flags. We LIKE turf flags. As far as I'm concerned, you could just give everyone a periodic point bonus and I won't be able to tell the difference. And when the vote is 10 for no moveable flags to 6 who want them. It's currently at 8 v 10. Given that the forum is hardly representative of the population, that only 18 people have expressed an opinion, and that there're only 2 votes difference between the options, I'd say the poll were more ambiguous than anything. Its also strange that if the emphasis has been on the ball game that you now give people two choices instead of emphasizing the one choice. The same thing would occur with KotH, and as I've already said above, turf flags just seem to be a simple way of injecting more points into the game without any significant involvement by the players. Update: There seems to be another problem with the flag, seeing as it gives the flagholder 9000+ bounty. All the above only applies if this is fixed. Quote
SeVeR Posted January 7, 2005 Report Posted January 7, 2005 flag = good = no reason not to have it once the bounty problems are ironed out. Plain soccer is boring and the turf flags were uninteresting, this movable flag works. Quote
ExplodyThingy Posted January 7, 2005 Report Posted January 7, 2005 Oops I broke my vote, hit view results by accident. I vote to return them to turf and revive KotH action. Quote
