Guest 2b3 Posted December 18, 2004 Report Posted December 18, 2004 error as in subject config:Athlon 64 "Winchester" 3000+ and FX-55MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum1gb ramgeforce 6600 gtwin xp sp2 this looks like some kind of memory management problem. the only "solution" is to kill the continuum task! you can reach me in subspace by ?message 2b3 in case you have any questions. MikeTheNose Posted December 19, 2004 Report Posted December 19, 2004 If it's a blue screen of death, how can you end task? Quote
Guest Guest Posted December 21, 2004 Report Posted December 21, 2004 exactly <{POST_SNAPBACK}> since some !@#$%^&*head deleted my reply I'll just say it again:1. there is no way to exit the zone (ESC+Q) without BSOD2. I can only avoid a BS if I manually kill the continuum task I feel I'd better have posted this on bug reports since the same thing happens on my FX-55 and my brothers 64 3000+ machine. Quote
Bargeld Posted December 21, 2004 Report Posted December 21, 2004 Unknown bugs are few and far between, nowadays. If it truly turns out to be a bug, then it will get moved to the proper place, and the proper people will be notified. But for now, you will get a larger, more qualified and active audience here, in tech support. That being said, lets start with the basics: latest drivers and directXunistall/re-install continuum (possibly choosing a different directory name)also check access priviledges/permission for the game directory and .dat files in the root of the game dir. Dav Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 it could be a compatibility issue with amd 64 chips. Anyone else had any problems with 64? Quote
Guest Guest Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 latest drivers and directX: yes. I'm running the latest forceware version and directx 9.0c. my brother is still running an older forceware version and DX8.1 but exactly the same thing happens there.unistall/re-install continuum (possibly choosing a different directory name): done and done, nothing changed.also check access priviledges/permission for the game directory and .dat files in the root of the game dir. there are no priveledges to worry about really when you run XP off your admin account. all files are writeable and not marked hidden btw.<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Quote

»Maverick Posted December 22, 2004 Report Posted December 22, 2004 it could be a compatibility issue with amd 64 chips. Anyone else had any problems with 64?<{POST_SNAPBACK}>Can't be that. I own a 64-bit Acer Notebook and I am running Windows XP 32 bit on it (64 bit isn't out yet). Not a single problem with continuum. Quote
Guest Sai Posted February 4, 2005 Report Posted February 4, 2005 I experience similar troubles. Continuum.exe (normal) will not reboot my pc when I do ESC+Q in a zone, but 39pr1 will. But it won't if I close it from windowed mode. And I don't get blue screens, my pc immediatly gets a free warm reboot. Also running an AMD (3500+) and a 6600 gt geforce Quote
»SOS Posted February 4, 2005 Report Posted February 4, 2005 If you get a bluescreen, post the error message too (if it tells you one - it's the big word in all caps). If you do not get a bluescreen, it might just be because WinXP is set to automatically restart on a crash by default. You can turn it off so you can see the error message in the system control panel under error recovery. Of course, the error should be in the system log as well. Quote
Chambahs Posted February 4, 2005 Report Posted February 4, 2005 oh...i thought i was the only one getting those things...haha poor computer, i hit it so much cuz i thought it was my comp being a POS lol, i see others have the same problem Quote
sanka Posted February 4, 2005 Report Posted February 4, 2005 I'll get the BSOD once in awhile when I change arenas. Maybe once every 2 weeks. Quote
Dav Posted February 4, 2005 Report Posted February 4, 2005 it would be usefull if system specs for everone experincing this problem were posted and what other programs you run. Quote
Bargeld Posted February 4, 2005 Report Posted February 4, 2005 sounds like hardware malfunctions Quote
Dav Posted February 4, 2005 Report Posted February 4, 2005 Agreed, however specs may shed some light. Quote
Guest Sai Posted February 6, 2005 Report Posted February 6, 2005 It's an AMD 64 3500+ processor on an asus a8n-sli deluxe mobo and a palit geforce 6600 gt videocard. It only reboots with the geforce drivers installed, and only on exit from inside the game Quote
Guest Sai Posted February 6, 2005 Report Posted February 6, 2005 And only from fullscreen, not from windows or the chatscreen... Quote
»Maverick Posted February 6, 2005 Report Posted February 6, 2005 You did install the latest drivers for your videocard right? Sounds like a definite hardware problem then. Open up your computer, dust it out and make sure everything is connected properly. If thats not working then there is a problem with the electronics of (proberly) your gfx card. You should put it in another computer then and test it out (if you have that luxury) so you know for certain if there is a problem with the gfx card or something else. Quote
Guest Sai Posted February 6, 2005 Report Posted February 6, 2005 Im afraid I do not have that luxury, but if its a hardware problem i can simply exchange the card. Quote
Chambahs Posted February 6, 2005 Report Posted February 6, 2005 i dont only get the bluescreen when im playing cont...i think its my hardware....if someone tells me what i should be looking for and where its at, ill post it...also, when i do play cont, it happens if i take a screenshot sometimes, if i kill, or change arenas.... Edit: also, i never play fullscreen, i do windowed, and it still happens Quote
»SOS Posted February 6, 2005 Report Posted February 6, 2005 Well, you can try disabling AGP fast writes and all the other AGP "speedup" settings if you know how (they should be in the BIOS setup somewhere). Those can cause crashes. Quote
Guest Guest Posted March 31, 2005 Report Posted March 31, 2005 I recently formatted this computer and when I try to load up continuum it gives a BSOD. The game ran fine before the format, system specs/drivers/etc are all the same as before, except now I'm on 98 instead of XP. I've tried most of the stuff suggested here but nothing seems to work...any more ideas? Quote
