SeVeR Posted December 6, 2004 Report Posted December 6, 2004 Ok show me where i said we should not host events. You hate when people assume you have not considered every viewpoint just as much as i hate when people put words into my mouth....well that is what this rule suggests; we host fewer events...therefore some events that would get hosted don't. That's what my whole discussion is based on. It seems to me you haven't read a word of what i've said. All you've done is read one sentence, interpreted it incorrectly and made a fool of yourself. Quite the contrary, i said it before and i will say it again: we need to come up with a workable way to co-exist. I agree... As rifleman said, pub needs to have priority over events. Not if its not good enough to stop people playing events when they have the oppurtunity to do so. Otherwise they'll just get bored playing in pub and leave to another zone rather than one of our sub-arenas. With a few restrictions on when they can be hosted, we can still have events, and also protect pub. True thats why i said in my last post that i'm not so bothered or angry about it, its just risky. Zetirix Posted December 6, 2004 Report Posted December 6, 2004 Rifleman, I you! You too Sever In any event, that's what the zone's been going through since before I even started playing there. Heh... - Z P.S. Hey Rifle, how goest the "project"? Quote
La Muerta Rosa Posted December 6, 2004 Author Report Posted December 6, 2004 "All you've done is read one sentence, interpreted it incorrectly and made a fool of yourself." Look sever im not going to play the name calling game with you. Just because i did not respond to every sentence you wrote does not mean i didnt read them. I hate when someone !@#$%^&*umes i have not considered every viewpoint. I understand very well the balance that must be maintained between attracting new players and retaining old players, and that is what this entire arguement is about. It is not an easy call to choose a plan which will have the desired effect. In the short term,as i have already stated a few times, my opinion is that it is best to put the priority on pub. In the long term maybe we should think of ways to get the older players interested in pub, and not have a bunch of people speccing until an event comes along, then a giant drop in population. Are there any minor changes would get you personally interested in pub again? What about other players? Hypothetically what do you think would happen if javwar split off and became its own zone on the main zone list? Do you think javwar would survive? Do you think 17th would die? Quote

I'm not having this argument with you. I actually don't care much about this at all, was just voicing my concerns. <3 Zetty Quote
DaKillaRoach Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 Bots have a negative effect on zone growth in terms of 17th. Where as TW used them for things that were popular like Wbduel, the only bot that actually was worth anything was Duel bot (when it worked!) and Rumble bot because of the pull of dsb players it brought in.. Speedball bot killed Speedball, the m!@#$%^&* of bots in public proved ineffective and every other bot seemed a bloody waste of time. GeneralBot, DuelBot, Rumblebot, Scorebot - the only bots needed (at most) Prehaps the TWElim bot would be a good addition... But 17th pub sucks, the events generally aren't much better. Negative effect for both cases, 17th won't survive long because of lack of change I'm betting. EDIT: 1200 posts ^^ Quote

DaKillaRoach Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 If you go along with that quote Mav you shouldn't be talking much your self - the only thing you seem to be good at is brown nosing. Bot lover Quote
»Maverick Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 that just made no sense at all Quote
Naedhaha Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 Well...he basically said: Don't talk about things you don't know !@#$%^&* about you brown nose bot lover...i think. Quote
Zakalwe! Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 I hope to have a moderate view of both sides, being firstly a pub terrier, but also sceondly being a javelin dueller/rumbler. Personally I have no problem with rumble bot, its good during quiet hours, for 4 people to have a little game. It shouldnt be removed. Also people cant play pub forever, most of the time pub has a moderate number of players. The trenchwars suggestion is stupid.....what are people gonna do play trench wars or a trench wars copy. get real, i came to this zone cos i enjoyed the ships, i enjoy the speed of the fighting, and i enjoy the difficulty of the zone. 17th is hard....that is why people want to play tw cos its easy....i personally enjoy a challenge. I would like more big events to be hosted, like -*BAD WORD*- and MS2 why dont we have a timetable? For instance Monday - 10pm-11pm could be 2 events hosted. Same for each day, timetabled events. Maybe Speedball and sblball one day. Dodgeball and something else another. But if people dont turn up, then event should be cancel. Say if 10pm speedball is advertised. But only 7 people turn up, and it has minimum of 10 required, then cancel it and let them go back to pub... Dont ask me for the timetable, someone else can do that. Rumble Bot should be kept, cos even rumble people would turn up for events. Quote
GhettoSmurf Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 hosting ms2 every sunday was great...too bad people stopped showing up. i miss huge events Quote
SeVeR Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 !@#$%^&* is still popular i believe Quote
Flash Fish Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 !@#$%^&* is still popular i believe<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Haven't seen it hosted for about... 2 months? since Halloween? Maybe it was hosted about 2 times or what, I did not notice. Quote
SeVeR Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 its been hosted since then but you're right not very often. I know it gets requested a fair bit. Quote
Samapico Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 schedulled mothership and !@#$%^&* events might bring back popularity... probably won'T get much players the first weeks, but i'm sure that more and more players will come to play each week and the popularity of those events will rise back to what it was or atleast more than it is atm... Quote
BeWaRe Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 Event popularity is determined partly on who hosts the most. If ER>suchandsuch likes sblball and likes to host it, people will play it a few times, like it, and request it every other second. Thats happened most recently to !@#$%^&*, sblball, and dodgeball. Quote
Alvan Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 not sure, but i think we have enough problems getting hosts to show for league matches... Quote
Arianax Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 Yeah, I used to host Sbl all the time, noone wanted anything else a while ago, now its mainly weird events, and rumble but thats always done. So what? you gonna make big events popular again? draw in the population? are ya? (or would that not work...?) Quote

»Maverick Posted December 8, 2004 Report Posted December 8, 2004 Well they are just good ideas! <3 Quote
Coster Mila Posted December 12, 2004 Report Posted December 12, 2004 they tryed to do this in SWR, when they had the same size pop as 17th, noticed what their pop is lately?, it will not work, it will just help kill the zone also you cannot tell the player what to do, if they want to play events let them<{POST_SNAPBACK}> well not to be a smart!@#$%^&*, but SWR got in the status it is now, because of some host troubles. The zone was down for months in a row, and even when it was up, it was unstable as !@#$%^&*. -Coster, i didn't even remember that i had registered here Quote
ddaL Posted December 14, 2004 Report Posted December 14, 2004 are you sure coster?, i do not remember swr beening unstable at any time in the past year or so Quote
Greased_Lightning Posted December 17, 2004 Report Posted December 17, 2004 As I write this: 16 pub speccers, 8 players per freq, 12 in duel and 4 in rumble. That said, I think it's a good idea to schedule the lesser-played events to specific times during the week. Something like once or twice a week during peak hours you could have sblball, speedball, !@#$%^&*, ms2, dodgeball, etc. At those scheduled times, it would be nice if the rumble players would play another event for the good of the zone. I'm not saying that the lesser-played events should take over, but it's nice to have a little variety. Speaking for myself, I come in and see 15 ppl in rumble, 20 in pub with 10-15 of those in spec and I go spec too. It's too boring to try and play with only a handful of people so I'll listen to music and play solitaire till people come.If the zone designated one or two days of the week during the evening/afternoon for about 1 or 2 hours to the lesser-played events, population might come up a bit, and if people show up for those, then we'll probably get more pub numbers afterwards and more in rumble or javwar afterwards as well.It doesn't have to be PUB vs. EVENT or PUB vs. RUMBLE/JW vs. Other... If we could just work out a schedule and actually get some cooperation from people it would work well I think. I sometimes come in and play rumble or jw (and get owned badly) if they need someone, and if everyone did that, things would go really smoothly. Anyways, I probably don't know what I'm talking about... Sama, havent seen ya in awhile...get on when I'm on and find Temp too! To the rest of youse, don't know how much I'll be on in the next week so if i don't see you, Have a Merry Christmas/Hanukah (sorry spelling)/Kwanza/Festivus/AtheistDayOff or just have a good holiday and a happy new year!
