Dr Brain Posted November 10, 2004 Report Posted November 10, 2004 Hyperspace is closed for renovations. You can still hang out in spec here, but all the playable arenas have been removed so that the Dev team and I can work on what we need to to get this zone back to a fun place to be. Quote
FunkmastaD Posted November 10, 2004 Report Posted November 10, 2004 I wondered when this would happenI suspected it would for about 3 weeksI'm actually pleased that HS should be able to get back on its feet after this renovation takes place. Quote
Kilo Posted November 10, 2004 Report Posted November 10, 2004 Indeed, good luck with all you are planning. Quote
chocko_cc Posted November 10, 2004 Report Posted November 10, 2004 How long will this be in affect for? Or is this not pre-determined? Quote
Dav Posted November 11, 2004 Report Posted November 11, 2004 i hope HS comes back soon, gj with the work yoyu're all doing. Quote
rogh Posted November 11, 2004 Report Posted November 11, 2004 at last the mods of hs do something smart Quote
KoTD Posted November 11, 2004 Report Posted November 11, 2004 Well I thought HS would be gone forever the first time I popped in. So is this for updating stuff like the map, new items, setts, etc.? (BTW, anybody like my new avatar?) Quote
chocko_cc Posted November 11, 2004 Report Posted November 11, 2004 i just had a look at the zone news -- and I'm scared, here's what it says (is it mm/dd/yy or is it dd/mm/yy?)---Tuesday, 11-02-04 (Dr Brain):I have decided to close the zone down. It is my hope to bring it back online at some point in the future, though I cannot even begin to speculate as to when this might happen. Thank you everyone for your support. Thanks especially to all the moderators who volunteered their time to helping out the zone.--- OMFG! Why brain, why!? Quote
Dr Brain Posted November 11, 2004 Author Report Posted November 11, 2004 (is it mm/dd/yy or is it dd/mm/yy?)---Tuesday, 11-02-04 (Dr Brain): <{POST_SNAPBACK}> mm/dd/yy November 2nd, 2004. Quote
FunkmastaD Posted November 11, 2004 Report Posted November 11, 2004 My mind is slapping you in the head for your ignorance chocko. Quote
rogh Posted November 11, 2004 Report Posted November 11, 2004 admit it: it was the set change that brought doom upon hs. Quote
Dr Brain Posted November 11, 2004 Author Report Posted November 11, 2004 If you look at the pop graphs of that time period, you will notice that the setting changes boosted population growth--for a time. But that short boost wasn't enough. Quote
JoWie Posted November 11, 2004 Report Posted November 11, 2004 actually the population droppen when you guys started to change to much, new sets, etc. Also the zone can be confusing for new players hence the ? commands , maybe using ASSS to create a dummy 'areabot' and then use it to simulate the old bot commands. Most players are used to bots (even in the 'newb' zone trenchwars, ppl learn how to use bots ), so they will understand it !@#$%^&*oon as they enter the zone for the first time.Maybe a system where they could be able to switch between bot and ?cmds would be nice. (no, im not saying this cuz i like the areabot more ) Maybe a RPG like system, honor system or something would make the pop grow.eg. start at 10 honor, points drop for team killing or other violations, points grow for winning flag games, killing, etc. need a specific ammount of honor for special weapons, arenas, etc. and a minimum honor of 8 to play in public, minimum of 1 in a newb arena. like this ppl would follow the rules more, and if a player violates to much, he cannot play in the public anymore.Ofcourse you can easily register a new nick, but then you would loose ur money (!@#$%^&*uming the give commands does not come back). and for that you can IP ban ^^something like AAO Just some thought that came up :> Quote
Dr Brain Posted November 11, 2004 Author Report Posted November 11, 2004 No one has studied the population of hyperspace like I have. I know what I'm talking about. This is not to put you off, but most people seem to think it was the settings that caused the drop, and they delude themselves that everything was perfect before. Quite frankly, I put in the setting changes as a last ditch effort to save the zone. Obviously, it didn't completely save the zone BUT IT DID HELP. There are a mul-*BAD WORD*-ude of reasons why the population declined to the point where these drastic measures were required, but the settings changes were not a major part of them. Quote
rogh Posted November 12, 2004 Report Posted November 12, 2004 the population increased because everyone wanted to check out the new sets. Quote
KoTD Posted November 12, 2004 Report Posted November 12, 2004 ...Omg JoWie is still alive!(going back to topic) yes i would agree, the pop had that small boost because they wanted to see what the new setts were like...and once they didnt like them the pop went down...and i dont see how doing renovations will help the zone... Quote
Dav Posted November 12, 2004 Report Posted November 12, 2004 i just hope that the renovations come in bug free and balanced, that way the pop will stay. Quote
nikegurl637 Posted November 12, 2004 Report Posted November 12, 2004 at last the mods of hs do something smart<{POST_SNAPBACK}> rogh the smart one still can't tell the difference between mods, smods, and owners. Quote
chocko_cc Posted November 12, 2004 Report Posted November 12, 2004 My mind is slapping you in the head for your ignorance chocko.<{POST_SNAPBACK}> well excuse me, we use dd/mm/yy here, not mm/dd/yy. Call me ignorant if you want (arrogant bum). We need something that will hold on to the population, everyone who plays mostly resides in America, therefore the later times for the Europeans, Asians, etc have no one to play with, need to get more and more steady people Quote

Zealot Zachary Posted November 13, 2004 Report Posted November 13, 2004 well i think that that sets were better, and though the pop drop was mostly blamed on the changed (which helped), a lot of it had to do with the end of summer (a while back), and beforerecently ive seen 3-8 players playing and i thought hs was headin back to its small regular, so perhaps once all is fixed and well again, we shall have our equilibrium, until then, ill enjoy speccin hopin someone comes in and chats with me.... -Zealot Z Quote

Quote
Dr Brain Posted November 14, 2004 Author Report Posted November 14, 2004 Actually, there are three hirearchies within Hyperspace. I'm the head of two, and share ownership with picano. There is the moderation team, with the moderators, the smod, and me. There is the dev team, with picano, sai, unnamed others, and me. Then there are the owners. That would be picano and me. This decision came from the ownership branch. Mods had nothing to do with it. Quote
rogh Posted November 14, 2004 Report Posted November 14, 2004 wow, i never knew you had such a complicated system...but this argument is becoming way too technical . when i said that fatal word "mod" i meant the people in hs that make decisions. I am so sorry that i misused that word "mod", and therefore I am utterly stupid. Quote
FunkmastaD Posted November 14, 2004 Report Posted November 14, 2004 Alright then for all instances where rogh uses the word mod he really means owner.I could edit his posts but thats too much like work and I already have to go to work today anyways. Quote
