Omega Ody Posted September 7, 2003 Report Posted September 7, 2003 Ok, now I know I've ranted about this topic before, but I think it needs mentioning again. I am seeing people in this zone play with pings in excess of 400ms. Their bullets are coming out 4 inches from their ship. I don't think it is fair to the public that people be allowed to play with that amount of lag. It just takes away from the fun of it. What do you think? Quote
DaKillaRoach Posted September 7, 2003 Report Posted September 7, 2003 thats 17th parallel for you. And you shouldnt complain. The max ping was dropped quite low a while back and also a change of server has dropped quite a few peoples ping. (Mine used to be 400 its now 190) Quote
NBVegita Posted September 8, 2003 Report Posted September 8, 2003 mine used to be over 400 now it's a bad day at 150...so I never could play in most events for my squad or any of that stuff Quote
Manus Celer Dei Posted September 8, 2003 Report Posted September 8, 2003 My connection has gone to (anglo-saxon expletive censored) recently so it's all moot for me. I don't know exactly what caused it but now my ping times are avging 1200+ !!!*omfg you laggot* But i will stick by my original reasoning concerning lag, although i know perfectly well that anyone with broadband *you lucky sods* will disagree. The only reason I came to 17th was because the combination of the high tolerance for lag in the lag settings, and the combination of ship settings/playing style was far more conductive to my being able to play with relatively little visible lag effects (on my screen anyway, dunno about you folks) considering my distance from the server. If this were to change drastically I would be sad :( And I would have to have some people whacked. Quote
reload Posted September 8, 2003 Report Posted September 8, 2003 I had 40-70 ping in 17th, I dunno what I'll get with my new connection. Quote
NBVegita Posted September 8, 2003 Report Posted September 8, 2003 Yeah I mean we might complain about lag, but cmon took at tw, with the one hit kill, lag is a -*BAD WORD*- there. Quote
ntfx Posted September 8, 2003 Report Posted September 8, 2003 Now! Decent eats in SSCU 17thparallel I think the lag limit is just fine Quote
madhaha Posted September 8, 2003 Report Posted September 8, 2003 The lag settings were a little messed up when Zeke restored them but they generally work. Quote
Omega Ody Posted September 8, 2003 Author Report Posted September 8, 2003 Now im not looking to drop it to 100 or something...thats just insane...but I think that 400 is too much. When they jump around it is just -*BAD WORD*-ed up. but...its ok... Quote
talion Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 the bad lag isn't ping, it's ploss, in my opinion. those two people who are voting for 200 ms are on crack, though. Quote
Guest Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 Erm.. the bad lag is the ploss? ;p lol Personally I think that the limit should be raised so that everyone can play and enjoy the game.Laggers never really messed my game up. Just makes it a little harder. Quote
ntfx Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 You are not used to winning, that's why you do not care. Quote
Guest Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 I used to win a lot, not anymore though ;D Quote
madhaha Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 You'd think that broadband would be availible that close to Oxford... Quote
NBVegita Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 seriously lag really doesn't mean a -*BAD WORD*- thing to players. I used to be accused of laggin, which I did, cause I was on 56k, and it was a terrible connection, 400+ ave. Then I get a great dsl connection, don't tell them, play em, and get comments about me bein a lagger, and when will I buy a connection ect. And then I check their lag, and my ping and ploss are lower than thiers. Players just like to complain...joker was another one. I got like a 26-2 rec in sbl, which he was playin in, so he immediately accuses me of using a lag prog, or kazaa, when I don't even have a file sharer on my comp. But I still stand by that over 400 is a little much to handle. Quote
madhaha Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 Latency doesn't matter anywhere near as much as packetloss. If you must do silly polls on lag please talk about packetloss. Of course, people can't do much about packetloss short of whining at their ISP's so that would be an excercise in futility. Quote
tablet Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 I used to have a 330 avg ping, making sure i was running nothing but continuum and my isp. Now I'm at school using ethernet and my avg ping is 130. As for the lag limit, this conversation came up the the other night between me and Talion I believe, and I think the lag limit should be 500 or 600. Yes that sounds mean, but its REALLY annoying when your in a jav, and hold down ctrl till you get down to 30 nrg, the enemy eats ALL of it, then turns around and kills you. In the end we can all complain but we DO have more strict lag limits in the leagues, which is the #1 complaint in leagues. Quote
Zioneer Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 Yeah I used to be told that I could only kill because of my lag (when I had 56k)Then when I got my adsl lan they said that I could only kill because of my low ping. They always gon say something soAnyways, raise the limit in public ;p Quote
NBVegita Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 umm yeah 500-600 is just -*BAD WORD*- insane dude. If you have ping that high, you might wanna try sending your packets via paper airplanes cause they ain't gonna get there any other way. -*BAD WORD*- love to see the ploss for that game.... Quote
