Guest BillyJack Posted October 20, 2004 Report Posted October 20, 2004 Whenever I hit play (on any version including the pre-release of continuum) on any server, the client just locks up. It never seems to attempt to create a window so I assume that it is locking up in the network layer. What information do you need to figure this out? Windows XP (no service pack 2)Disabled Norton Realtime monitoringBehind a linksys WAP (but I am the machine in the DMZ zone. All ports should be open)All other applications (including about 100 games) work fine from this machine. Any ideas? Is there a way to get a log? BillyJackesbillyjack@yahoo.com Quote
»Maverick Posted October 20, 2004 Report Posted October 20, 2004 Dont put your computer in the DMZ zone unless you want your computer to be vulnerable to all kind of viruses or hackers. I think this is more a problem with either your Sound or Video. Update your videa card drivers, update your audio card drivers. Update to Directx 9c and then try again. -MMave Quote
Guest BillyJack Posted October 20, 2004 Report Posted October 20, 2004 I already have the latest sound and video drivers. and Directx 9.0c Geforce 4Soundblaster Live Value (original version)Diect X 9.0c And I am not on the DMZ any longer... (just did that to make sure it wasnt a port issue) Is there any way to get a log or figure out where this thing is hanging? Are there any known compatability issues with hardware or other progams that might be running? (virus scanners, etc.) Thanks, BillyJack Quote
»Maverick Posted October 20, 2004 Report Posted October 20, 2004 Also tried running windowed / full screen? Quote
MasterDrake Posted October 20, 2004 Report Posted October 20, 2004 check your settings on your router might be a problem Quote
Guest Guest Posted October 20, 2004 Report Posted October 20, 2004 Yes, i tried both windowed and full screen. Perhaps I can try catching directx system calls and see if it even tries to send one. I have a utility at work that might be useful for that. What are the ports that need to be open? A trace works, as does the population of the games list. Theoretically when I was in the DMZ zone there should be no issues with my wan. Is there an official developer for SubSpace? How do I contact them? Is the code public domain. I am a software developer, and I think this needs a log at the very least, or to be run in a debugger to see where it is hanging. It sure feels like guesswork right now. Quote
MasterDrake Posted October 20, 2004 Report Posted October 20, 2004 The person that hacked the code and made continuum is Prittk I havent seen or heard from him in a while. Others also say the same.. Quote
Guest BillyJack Posted October 20, 2004 Report Posted October 20, 2004 Follow up:: I ran a packet sniffer when the thing locks up. It is broadcasting 0 packets. So it is definitely locking up in some strange start-state. The only thing I can think of is that my machine has two sound cards. I have tried running with no sound and that does not fix the problem. I have also tried disabling the sound card and that does not fix it. Drivers are fully updated. I just installed sp2 and turned off the firewall. I have no idea why this won't work. Every other game I have will run. Can somebody point me to another site to download (a verified) version of continuum. Perhaps my installation is bad (although I have updated it 5 times) BillyJack Quote
Bargeld Posted October 21, 2004 Report Posted October 21, 2004 The client shouldn't lock due to internet problems outside of the machine itself. Under normal cir!@#$%^&*stance, the client should just report all zones as RED if the internet is broken. Try right clicking the .exe and try some of the compatibility modes. Un istall and Re-install the client, drivers, etc (wwork your way up to the entire OS if you really feel like it.) Quote
Guest SilverSun Posted December 9, 2004 Report Posted December 9, 2004 I have the exact same problem.... But, in my case, i have no router...I have turned off Norton antivirus, NOrton worm protection, Windows firewall, Xoftspy, and spybot, and i can't still hit play without the game crushing... Goto Control Panel / Windows Firewall / tab 'Exceptions'to see all programs allowed to use the internet. If the program is not in the list, the firewall will ask if its allowed as soon as the program starts using the internet. If the program is in the list but not checked then the program is known but blocked by the firewal. Guest SilverSun Posted December 10, 2004 Report Posted December 10, 2004 No... It's not the windows firewall, as i have norton worm protectionI've disabled NAV 2005, and Norton Worm Protection, (Having no firewall at all, as i disabled windows firewall as well)I have XoftSpy and Spybot (which i think they are not running in the background) Then... i had to change the mode to windows 2000 because if not, continuum didn't even started... What else can I do????????? Thanx.. Quote
MikeTheNose Posted December 10, 2004 Report Posted December 10, 2004 Uninstall Continuum and then install it into a "different" directory. Solves Registry problems, firewall blockouts, and bad hard drive sectors Quote
