own zone

is there a way i can set a zone to just be for a specific group of people? if not, how could i get a zone hosted...?

the answer is yes

Yes, it is possible, just make your zone password-protected or don't put it into a directory server, and tell your friends the IP, zone-name and port, so they can add your zone to their zones.dat
