KoTD Posted September 19, 2004 Report Posted September 19, 2004 I think HS needs a jackpot meter at the top of the screen so we know how much cash we can win from the jackpot. nothing that is required, just a suggestion
HypnoticKirby Posted September 19, 2004 Report Posted September 19, 2004 Hum,If I recall correctly in a testing arena a jackpot meter was visable... Anyways,It sounds like a nice feature to have, typing ?jackpot sometimes gets annoying to some people. But aey,It sounds like a nice thing to have.
Lanvalk Posted September 19, 2004 Report Posted September 19, 2004 I suppose it is an extreme factor of convenience, typing a non-macroed ?jackpot is rather tedious. Plus, ballers will be able to see the JP this way, since normally they're too enthralled in their game to type ?jackpot
EdTheInvincible Posted October 16, 2004 Report Posted October 16, 2004 I'm afraid I have to disagree. It's really not that hard to fight/fly and type at the same time. And who needs to check the jackpot every 2 seconds? It doesnt change that much in 5 minutes even..
Kilo Posted October 16, 2004 Report Posted October 16, 2004 I don't think it's necessary, but sometimes people are not really concerning themselves with the flag game (so not even checking ?jackpot), so this would be there to notify them.
Flaw 420 Posted October 17, 2004 Report Posted October 17, 2004 we should get a jackpot counter typing ?jackpot was getting annoying
Flaw 420 Posted October 18, 2004 Report Posted October 18, 2004 i would be if my computer was working
Kilo Posted October 19, 2004 Report Posted October 19, 2004 So you imply that you are not using your own computer to post these messages?
Flaw 420 Posted October 19, 2004 Report Posted October 19, 2004 im using my dads and the ones at school my dads cant handle ss
Boldot Posted October 19, 2004 Report Posted October 19, 2004 what kind of computer cant handle SS? my old computer, pre pentium processor, could handle it just fine O.O
FunkmastaD Posted October 20, 2004 Report Posted October 20, 2004 Really now you have to give us the specs of the comp that can post on the forum, but can't handle playing SS
chocko_cc Posted October 20, 2004 Report Posted October 20, 2004 Really now i'm sure it isn't tough to either make a meter or make the jackpot show every now and then (such as the reward thing that pings every now and then in tw)
Flaw 420 Posted October 21, 2004 Report Posted October 21, 2004 i tried to play ss on my dad's computer and i had to take off just about all of the graphics to get in. once i got on, the whole background was white (dont know why) so that you couldnt see much of anything. i couldnt do anything but be in spec, and i was lagging really bad, way worse than i should have been for the connection that i had.
FunkmastaD Posted October 21, 2004 Report Posted October 21, 2004 If the background is all white just type ?go to fix
Kilo Posted October 22, 2004 Report Posted October 22, 2004 Actually, to Brain: putting in periodic rewards that reward money could potentially keep people playing the flag game even when there's a low jackpot. (Say, even $50 per flag every 5 or 10 minutes.) In theory, this would encourage people to guard and steal and hold flags instead of just neuting them out and forgetting them about it until someone wants to win it. Just a thought.
Dr Brain Posted October 22, 2004 Report Posted October 22, 2004 Jackpot meter is possible but non essential at this point. Periodic rewards in ASSS are buggy at best.
Kilo Posted October 22, 2004 Report Posted October 22, 2004 Well, all I know is I saw Sai had them up in the former league arena and got them in up in starfox for a time. So, it seems it's possible, but I don't know what kind of bugs it could have. I say it's worth investigating, but I'd also say other HS projects come first
Dr Brain Posted October 22, 2004 Report Posted October 22, 2004 You must have missed the several crashes that were caused directly by the periodic modules. However, that's not the main issue. Those crashes can probably be fixed by appropriate setting changes. The issues are that the HS modules have no support for giving money for periodic rewards (probably not hard to add), and that the SSCX server that we run on has become phenominally unstable. I think it's truly amazing that the zone runs at all. There is absolutly nothing that I can do personally about this, it will have to be done by the SSCX ops, namely Xalimar.
Animate Dreams Posted November 13, 2004 Report Posted November 13, 2004 Oh, and... a bad internet connection/badly wired network would definitely stop a person from running SS, but it wouldn't stop someone from accessing forums. I could access forums fine at the High School, but I couldn't play SS until I changed part of the school's network. Although, I think I caused whatever problem they're having in metals now.... Half of their wires are bad anyway and need to be replaced. Maybe this prompted them to do it.
