Guest Circle Posted September 8, 2004 Report Posted September 8, 2004 After I installed Microsoft's SP2, Continuum stopped working. I can't run Continuum039pr1.exe. It seems to be just Continuum. To be specific, I double click on the app, the little hourgl!@#$%^&* would appear next to the mouse pointer for a second and disappear, and that would be it. No error message. I looked in taskmanager while loading Continuum, it'll load and exit. This has sorta happened before SP2 but after a few more tries it'll work. Now it never loads. Aside from SP2, I also ran this patch http://www.lvllord.de/?url=tools#4226patch to increase the my half-open TCP connections to 2096. So the first thing I did is uninstall and reinstall Continuum. I kept the zone and profile files though. I haven't changed anything else since the last time I was able to load Continuum. But if I right click on it and goto Properties --> Compatabilities tab, and check "Run this program in Compatability mode" for Windows 2000; it will load. But it'll crash (no error message, program freezes) once I try to enter a zone. I have turned off Windows Firewall but it still doesn't work. My firewall is my SMC router. I'm running WinXP Professional. Help me out plz
Guest Guest Posted September 8, 2004 Report Posted September 8, 2004 Another program I installed and started using since it last worked is Mozilla Firefox... doubt it'd matter but I might as well mention it.
Bargeld Posted September 8, 2004 Report Posted September 8, 2004 Bad network settings shouldn't cause the game to run erratically. If you have network issues, then continuum will just sit at the main screen and show all the zones as unavailable, in red... but it shouldn't crash. Leave the network alone for now, until you have the game running smoothly. This seems to be a common problem for quite a few people, and I can't remember if there was a specific solution to it. All I can suggest is to make sure you have all the latest drivers for your sound, video, etc. Make sure you have the most recent version of directX, and use ad-aware or another spyware/virus removal tool.
X`terrania Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 I suggest using "SpyBot Search & Destroy""SpyCop""Ad-Aware"These are the spyware/ad-ware removers I use and they seem to work perfectly, but I find that SpyCop is a bit weak most of the time.
Guest Circle Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 I've ran Ad-aware and it found 2 spyware from Windows Media Player, and removed them, but no help. Even though I do get updates for Ad-aware, it's been like over a year since it's found an update so that might not be working right. So I'll look for another spyware program, make sure my drivers and directx are updated...
Guest Circle Posted September 9, 2004 Report Posted September 9, 2004 Well, I installed and ran Spybot; it found and got rid of 52 spyware. Updated directx from 9.0b to 9.0c. And updated my GeForce2 drivers. No other drivers need to be updated. Continuum still won't work. Sigh.
Bargeld Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 try the compatibilty modes, in the properties of continuum.exe
Guest Circle Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 mode for 95 and 98, I get "fatal error." For NT and 2000, it'll load but the game will freeze when I press the play button.
Bargeld Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 check the advanced options and change some of the settings... personally, i have only the following checked: avoid page flippingno framerate limit
Guest Circle Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 Yea, those settings are checked. They were checked before it stopped loading also.
Guest Circle Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 I fixed it finally! Under Properties for Continuum039pr1.exe, Compatibility tab, I checked "Run in 256 colors." I should've tried that earlier. Anyways, what that does is it resets my whole desktop to 256 colors and loads Continuum that way. Then after I enter a zone, it'll be back to normal, when I exit, my desktop will be back to 32 bit colors. I guess this will be my solution. Is there gonna be an update for Continuum in the future or will 039pr1 be the last? Thanks for listening and helping me out.
Bargeld Posted September 10, 2004 Report Posted September 10, 2004 actually, there's a setting in the options for color depth, try setting that to 8 bit and see if it works the same. You shouldn't need to change the properties of the .exe with regards to the OS if you have a setting for it in the game.
Guest Circle Posted September 11, 2004 Report Posted September 11, 2004 I see the option under Graphics. No matter what it's set to, for me to load the game, I still need to set it to 256 colors. The default color depth is 8, making it higher just lowers my fps. I see no difference in graphics quality.
Guest K Posted September 12, 2004 Report Posted September 12, 2004 I cant get this -*BAD WORD*- thing to work, and i cant run it in 256 cause the lowest setting is 26 bit. wth am i supposed to do now!?
Guest B.belt Posted September 17, 2004 Report Posted September 17, 2004 Whenever I try to install Continuum I get this error that says: "Subspace web installer wasunable to locate a supported repository and will now abort". What is my problem?
MasterDrake Posted September 18, 2004 Report Posted September 18, 2004 I had the same problem before don't use the webinstaller download version .38 unless you really need .39 and reinstall it. It seems to do the trick for myself so it should work for you. I think it might just be a .39 flaw iono we will see.
Guest fie Posted September 22, 2004 Report Posted September 22, 2004 Another program I installed and started using since it last worked is Mozilla Firefox... doubt it'd matter but I might as well mention it.<{POST_SNAPBACK}>i also installed firefox... in fact, i'm using it right now....another thing i noticed is that the processor is beingsplit between continuum039pr1.exe and csrss.exei assume it is an issue with the two...
Guest fie Posted September 22, 2004 Report Posted September 22, 2004 It is firefox...http://forums.invisionpower.com/index.php?...100&p=1026037
