chocko_cc Posted September 4, 2004 Report Posted September 4, 2004 DOODER was removed 60% of his HS money. Red-Horned> i lost 3.2 mil , now i have 2.2mil , just cause i attached to some1 outside the map,did lanvalk do it (Lanvalk did it he means, English is his second language) His story consisted of this: Smiling Demon lanced in the Hypertunnels, and how did he get there, obviously a mod. Step in DOODER, who attaches to Smiling Demon, appoximately 15 seconds later jrmod Lanvalk tells him not to attach, then fines him 60% of his money, which was 3.2 million HS dollars. but was let off of a harsher punishment of entire ship/score reset. Now tell me, I wasn't there, but I want to know, is this true, or not? OR are you just excercising your right to use your powers. If so, IF this story is true, don't you think that such punishment was over the top, that you used your power a little too much? Or is there another side to this story, something I don't know about? Tell me, I want to know, or if thats all, then I really know some people just weren't fit and couldn't control power. Until someone proves me wrong, I'm with Dooder here, it wasn't even INTENTIONAL, not like certain other cases where swearing was intentional, for god's sake YOU LET THEM IN THE HYPERTUNNELS.
Dr Brain Posted September 4, 2004 Report Posted September 4, 2004 and how did he get there, obviously a mod.Obviously?
Lanvalk Posted September 4, 2004 Report Posted September 4, 2004 Alright, here's what happened. No mod stuck them there. We don't let random people there, especially if they plan to attack bases.Smiling Demon has an odd version of Continuum. For some reason, when he's on a private freq, he occasionally spawns at the coordinates 0,0, skipping all the modules that we put otherwise. We've been having problems with this, and for some reason, Smiling has a tendency to always be in a lancaster when he does this. Each time, his teammates have been warned to not attach to him, and those who have were punished severely for "Bug Abuse". I should know, back in the old map, I attached for a bit and was fined almost immediately. In the new map, this corresponds to a little portion of the map outside of the hypertunnels.Anyway, ?warpto doesn't work on him when he's there. So, when I saw him there, I told his freq, in a freq message, to not attach to him. What happens? ALL OF THEM DO IT. Not only do they attach, but they attempt to steal the flags with thors from their precarious position. Fat Cat and I chat a bit on the staff chat. FC warps himself over to the hypertunnels, where he tries to repel all of them into the wormholes, including Smiling. Of course, due to the buggy Smiling, going in a warphole brings him to 0,0. This when I start m!@#$%^&* warpto-ing his freq back to the center, and shouting "DON'T ATTACH TO SMILING DEMON", probably throwing in a "YOU WILL BE PUNISHED FOR BUG ABUSE" here and there. At some point, picano logs in, and soon enough FC causes a server crash. I spoke with picano about it, considering it bug abuse with multiple warnings. So, I took the 5%, 10%, and 50% fines and combined them into a neat 60%, went over it with picano, and he sorta waved an "ok" on that matter, more just making sure something was done about it.There's something you should know about fining systems. They aren't designed to be generous to people with large amounts of money. Fines are designed to make people feel a loss of money so that they avoid performing an act again. For some people, even 5k is enough to make them annoyed, some it takes 10k, and others 100k. If you have a ton of money, you probably buy thorstorms and shields and such quite often, so even 100k is often too little. Hence why a percentage fine is most effective.Originally, there was talk of banning the entire freq, on account that it's bug abuse, but picano said he never liked dishing out bans, so it'd be better if we just fined them. The only reason such a large sum of cash was lost from DOODER is because he had a larger sum of cash at hand. You can't "tone down" a fine for the rich, otherwise it'd be bias towards them.If you're not going to listen to multiple orders from a mod to cease your actions, and if you don't get the picture when two of them are warping you OUT of the hypertunnels, I think you need to learn to pay a bit more attention to things.
Kilo Posted September 4, 2004 Report Posted September 4, 2004 I was one of the opposing flag teams, and our team actually was almost wiped out of the base because of the thors coming so conveniently from off-map from past the hypertunnels. I don't remember whether we won or lost, but this was going on for some time, until after the flag game. There are two things I'd like to point out: Frequency messages (not own-team) are really quite odd, they don't make any noise, and blend in quite well with the other green messages of, say, killing and goal scoring and periodic messages. Thus I'd be willing to guess that people on Smiling's frequencies could not read the message. As for anything you said after that, I make no judgment. As for the fine(s) that was/were given, if a person is warned not to do something (and they can see this warning amidst all of the chaos in chat of "OMG CHEATERS",) then just about any fine is acceptable. It's not cool to go and break rules on the !@#$%^&*umption you won't lose that much of your money.
chocko_cc Posted September 5, 2004 Author Report Posted September 5, 2004 HS and it's team alsways lives up to its reputation. Thanks for the info.
EdTheInvincible Posted September 5, 2004 Report Posted September 5, 2004 Just a comment about ?warpto not working on Smiling: ?setship or ?spec SHOULD work, effectively solving the problem.
FunkmastaD Posted September 5, 2004 Report Posted September 5, 2004 and if all else fails ?kick works
a n00b. Posted September 5, 2004 Report Posted September 5, 2004 But I guess the smart one didnt think of that..?
Dr Brain Posted September 5, 2004 Report Posted September 5, 2004 There are always other matters to consider. Know only that you don't know the whole story.
