Eccentric Posted September 3, 2003 Report Posted September 3, 2003 Posted this first in the forumHQ dev board. But I didn't know you have a more active one here... You can read the few posts from there if you are interested.link: http://www.forumhq.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=169 I'll just quote the idea here: I know there is this command %area, but that is often useless as it just says where you are in the map. In some popular zones like DSB and TW, you don't find much use for it, if any. That's a pity because the idea of having a command like that is good. I'd like it if continuum would allow zone owners to define areas based on the coordinates. In DSB those could be: Core, North, East, e-tube... etc. (you got the point). I think most zones could find use for it. This would allow us to use 1 macro "I am in *area*" instead of making several macros for all the areas/ typing it all the time in the chat.
Yupa Posted September 4, 2003 Report Posted September 4, 2003 wonder if it can be done with a bot/module
madhaha Posted September 4, 2003 Report Posted September 4, 2003 It could be done providing that your macro is pmed to the bot. The bot would then hopefully parse the message and send it to the right channel. It'd probably be spammed to death.
Smong Posted September 4, 2003 Report Posted September 4, 2003 It is possible, but the sender will see their %macro in the chat, everyone else will see the correct area/sector name.
madhaha Posted September 4, 2003 Report Posted September 4, 2003 Well depends how its implemented. If it only works in teamchat for example, then the sender could see it too.
mister manners Posted September 5, 2003 Report Posted September 5, 2003 great idea, you could assign areas of tiles ex 256,478 345,478 in merv for spawning you could set areas to make the bot say for you, ur at 512,512 and you pm the bot :bot:!area help!! attatch, at area (you cant use %area, itll tell the bot ur area) and itll send a team or pub message "help!! attatch, at middle -name if ur at 0,0 and you program it as on top and u pm the bot :bot:!area help!! attatch, at area itll say "help!! attatch, at on top -name gat it? :pimp:
divine.216 Posted September 5, 2003 Report Posted September 5, 2003 ASSS could implement, but it would be hackish.//Safe at %placewould still echo locally as "divine.216> Safe at %place" but server could replace with something like "divine.216> Safe at Lunar Landing Quadrant" to everyone else. ...just another should-be-client-side feature that won't be implemented.
madhaha Posted September 5, 2003 Report Posted September 5, 2003 I don't know. I favour it being put up server side as its all going to be handled in the settings anyway.
Eccentric Posted September 5, 2003 Author Report Posted September 5, 2003 ...just another should-be-client-side feature that won't be implemented. I know the common opinion is that nothing will be implemented from all the things you see at dev board. But sometimes progress happens, even in this game. I'll just rather post ideas than keep it to myself. Even if there is only a very small chance that it will happen. :? I don't really expect Priit to put it in the client... but hopefully it will be put to server side then. That seems to be more realistic to hope
mister manners Posted September 5, 2003 Report Posted September 5, 2003 well... it could be client side, if you could view your coords, the real ones, not the 100, some square tiles, but the tiles, if continuum says it like 1,1 and all in the client window, a program to read that and, if you put in a certain "secret word, like %place" in ur message, the program will recognise it, you might go into alt tab to get it to read them, but you could program up to like 10 places or boxes on map that are subs!@#$%^&*uted into it, if i know more vb id do it
»SOS Posted September 5, 2003 Report Posted September 5, 2003 That is stupidy complex... and sounds rather stupid too
madhaha Posted September 5, 2003 Report Posted September 5, 2003 What were you expecting from Mr. "I've-got-the-souce-but-its-crap-and-I-can't-even-use-vb" Manners? -*BAD WORD*- it, he must be a troll. Ban him.
»CypherJF Posted September 5, 2003 Report Posted September 5, 2003 I like the idea, but like said many other times probably won't be implimented.... "%arena" macro... - cyp
divine.216 Posted September 6, 2003 Report Posted September 6, 2003 It's relatively trivial to add as a server mod, it's just hackish to the point that people wouldn't use it because it would confuse them. The client would echo the wrong thing to itself so people would just type://At %placeand they would then see//At %placeand assume they -*BAD WORD*-ed it up some how. That's why it's silly to add as a server mod because it will just be a confusing hack.
mister manners Posted September 6, 2003 Report Posted September 6, 2003 btw, im only 13, so im not a master at vb
