Usually just one or two will show up and leave because they're the only ones there. How do I get groups of six to ten to all come at once so they play more?[/i]

hrmmm, you should maybe get staffers and make them play when ppl enter zone blum.gif

you can always advertise on forums about zone-opening events (or normal events)

some zones allow advetising, but most are picky about it

for instance if you even think about another zone while in SSCU 17th Parallel you will be banned blum.gif

NO! Do not advertise your zone in other zones!! It is bad manner and unrespectful, and in most cases, cheating. You can possibly get netbanned from the network if you do so also..

Getting players into your zone is the most difficult part of making a zone.. You could go through all that work and slave for hours and what not, and end up having no population at all. I know plenty of great zones that don't seem to get any players.

Here's my suggestions;

1. Get on a network.

- if you haven't already, try to get zone hosting from a zone hosting network, like SSI. Aim for SSC if you think your zone is beyond elite, but don't expect SSC. DO NOT TRY TO MAKE YOUR OWN! Lol, it's funny when people have zones like "SSIEW Blah Blah", it doesn't work=/ just get a network.

2. Get Staff

- even if they are just temporary, for population, lol.. As SOS said, you may have to use dirty tricks. Players are always desperate looking to be a mod or smod or whatever, most of them might not be that great, but some deserve a try, and may become great staff. The others, well.. just axe them=/ Staff wil try to be in the zone whenever, to appeal to you and gain respect and popularity from the players:) Just make sure they don't abuse or they may scare away population.

3. Bots

- yet again, a dirty trick, but starting early, nearly anything can work and is required to get a decent population. I am not saying, run 10 of them in a private arena, but rather, place a bot for a simple thing that not only adds a tiny bit to the population, but serves as an extra aid/fun tool for the zone. Example: an elim bot in ?go elim, or even better, a bot running Bounty Rabbit in pub.

4. Word of Mouth

- ahh, word of mouth is very useful. Tell squadmates, players in chat, friends, whatever. If it appeals fun to them, they will probably stop by and check it out.

5. Fanware

- couldn't think of a better name=/ Anyways, when I say this I just mean, try to get a post on SubspaceHQ.net saying there's a new zone in town, or post on SSF (where we are now;), or MineGOBoom's forum (if he has one for advertising), and other fan sites.. Maybe zone forums or zone websites like TrenchWar's forum (flowing with posts, I know that much). But don't make sure you look like you are trying to steal population or anything!

6. Keep the players in your zone, in your zone!

- when people enter your zone, try to strike a conversation or get in some seroius dogfights, anything, to try to make them enjoy the zone, or even provide an extra digit on the player count on the zone lists.. People join zones with people. Seen Trench War's player count? I bet you 50% of new players checkout TW and EG before any other zone, simply because they have more players.. More players = more popular = better zone. =/ It's tough but thats the way it works..

As madhaha said, look at the SSOS section!

Best of luck to your new zone. Carry on soldier:)

I, personally, would say the absolutely best way to get people to your zone is to give it to trenchwars as a sub arena and have them host some weekend events there. Leave a little periodic message that mentions your zone in there, and you should slowly gather some fans. Maybe after a couple months ask TW to take it down.

Or, even better, don't make your new zone - leave it as a sub arena in TW smile.gif

i ve been waiting 5 years for someone to mention ssos, that is the formula to a good zone!

I refuse to believe you've been around subspace for 5 years and remaind as clueless as you are now. AND regularly claim you have a life.

Advert bots = ban. Developers are shut down (all the ones I know have been pushed off the web).

Agreed

No new zone has a chance of SSC for atleast a month unless they have some l33t sysop running it.

this is the best way, so i learned, hire loadsa staff, make it look like u have lots of players, it'll attract other players, and maybe even better staffers, ..smile.gif

agreed once again, n00bs seem to love there good old bounty rabbit games etc blum.gif

uh huh, then they bring their friends, then their friends bring their friends and so on..never worked for me, properly. :/

no comment, 2 lazy 2 post bout zones on forums.

Hey, whats a hosting network, what does it do, how does it effect my ownership of the zone, and how do I get one?

Thanks in advance.

umm doesnt affect owner ship. is basicaly has a very hishspeed connection with a server usualy. Best one for new zones is ssdm. When you start getting 15+ people you could et like ssnt [ZNet} or other good ones. then if you start getting more than that you could get sscc MAYBE or ssa MAYBE all depends

Zhou, a Hosting Network would be either a Zone Hosting, Biller Hosting, or both.. Networks have boxes/dedicated servers/etc, so you don't have any lag.

Say you hosted your zone on your computer on your internet connection, with Subgame2.. It would lag like crazy, and it wouldn't run 24/7.

The host doesn't effect your ownership very much.. I'd say it depends on the host maybe. I have never had complete control (been an owner) on a network, but I assume they give you a high level of BanG, Sysop, and a FTP account to access your zone on the server. But I dont know..

Just try to get a host if possible

I just tell the staff to go get there friends, in a private chat from the zone they usually play in, and there friends to get there friends, and there friends to get the freinds, ect. We all love someone *cough*akai*cough* :D
