kentbrockman Posted September 2, 2003 Report Posted September 2, 2003 i think more people would be upset if you brought them back. Quote
Omega Ody Posted September 2, 2003 Report Posted September 2, 2003 Oh my god. I wasn't around for the old settings, so after much deliberation, I decided to go check them out. They make me appreciate the newer settings all the more. Warbird: Its nothing but a slower jav with bombs. And a repel for good running measure. Javelin: Doesn't seem too much different, so it's still just as boring as ever. Spider: Able to hold more bursts, meaning its lethaler in base, but with a lack of decent bullets and no emp, its useless outside. Levi: It seems to be better, IMO. Althogh it instead needs fast firing Lvl 2 bullets, not 3. Too powerful that way. Bombs may need speed increase. Terrier: A fair tradeoff, stronger bombs for -1 bounce and weak bullets, Although unfair for cloakers. Ability to hold 6 repels is terrible. It would be a rep-o-thon. Weasel: Ahhhh, the weasel. I've heard so much about this little bugger, and I think while its good for a laugh, it need not be the ship set. For all the people that complain about vulching today (i do sometimes) this would make things hundreds of times worse. Shark: BAH! This ship drips with n00bism. While I loath the shark of today, I would gladly take it over the old one. What seems to be increased shrap and an increased forward thrust make it totally overpowered, plus the fact that it bounces 6 times before exploding. You dont need aim to hit someone. Worst. Ship. Ever. Shark: Nothing but a weaker version of todays shark. Now while I'd still like to see some of todays settings changed, I am so glad that they are not what they were. Quote

Guest Posted September 2, 2003 Report Posted September 2, 2003 Warbird: Its nothing but a slower jav with bombs. And a repel for good running measure. The maximum speed of the warbird is faster than the jav Javelin: Doesn't seem too much different, so it's still just as boring as ever. ?go -*BAD WORD*- Spider: Able to hold more bursts, meaning its lethaler in base, but with a lack of decent bullets and no emp, its useless outside. That's the point, it's a basing ship. Levi: It seems to be better, IMO. Althogh it instead needs fast firing Lvl 2 bullets, not 3. Too powerful that way. Bombs may need speed increase. But its rotation speed is the slowest, so you can just fly around it while shooting at it. So not very powerful. Pretty easy to kill actually, unless it's a experienced pilot. Terrier: A fair tradeoff, stronger bombs for -1 bounce and weak bullets, Although unfair for cloakers. Ability to hold 6 repels is terrible. It would be a rep-o-thon.The old standard Terr had 3 repelsAnd how is it unfair for cloakers? Because it has X-Radar? Erm. Shark: BAH! This ship drips with n00bism. While I loath the shark of today, I would gladly take it over the old one. What seems to be increased shrap and an increased forward thrust make it totally overpowered, plus the fact that it bounces 6 times before exploding. You dont need aim to hit someone. Worst. Ship. Ever Shark: Nothing but a weaker version of todays shark. Okay.... first you say that it's "totally overpowered", then you end this silly ignorant comment by saying that it's a weaker version of the current shark? Watafak man. Now while I'd still like to see some of todays settings changed, I am so glad that they are not what they were. This is the way the real 17th is played : Quote
talion Posted September 2, 2003 Report Posted September 2, 2003 ships shouldnt be useful for only one purpose zion, so saying stuff like "That's the point, it's a basing ship," doesnt promote your argument at all. ships should have specialization, but the old spider was good for nothing but dying outside of bases. and i think the two sharks is a big brainfart, with the first (longer) blurb about the old "shark" actually being for the lancaster. just a guess, but it makes sense. but i wouldn't expect you to use common sense zioneer so that's cool too. and finally: what Ody said = true Quote
Guest Posted September 2, 2003 Report Posted September 2, 2003 lol I won't say shït, I just hope Talion doesn't edit his post. ships shouldnt be useful for only one purpose zionships should have specialization but i wouldn't expect you to use common sense zioneer so that's cool too. Oh the diss. lål how weak. Quote
Tempest Posted September 2, 2003 Report Posted September 2, 2003 What I believe Talion is saying is that Spiders in the old settings were over-specialised to the point where it becomes useless, or near useless out of base - whereas almost every other ship, whilst being specialised, is still flexible enough to handle itself both in and out of base. Quote
SeVeR Posted September 2, 2003 Report Posted September 2, 2003 That was my problem with the old spider too. I think it should change more so it just has cloak and no stealth so people have to use the bottom-right radar to spot them coming. As an evener they would get more powerful emp bombs. This would stop it being "lame" and almost unbeatable in confined spaces. Although, burst damage has been weakened instead which is a more subtle change but not as effective in my opinion. Quote
SeVeR Posted September 2, 2003 Report Posted September 2, 2003 The only decent ships from the old set were the jav, lanc and the terr when it had 3 repels. Quote
ntfx Posted September 2, 2003 Report Posted September 2, 2003 Look what you've done with the newbies : I'm innocent! Quote

I liked the specialization of the spider along with all the other ships, it's what made 17th parallel so cool (old weasel may have been a bit much, though ) Quote

Omega Ody Posted September 2, 2003 Report Posted September 2, 2003 About Zion's post on the sharks. Don't rag on him too, it was my mistake. Thank you for pointing it out, but you should have used some sense to deduce that I ment Lancaster, not Shark. And ya know, about the lanc, all I want is for the forward thrust to be taken out. If its supposed to specialize in Basing, then the forward thrust should be removed, becuase it makes it too lethal in and out of base. Quote
Vile Requiem Posted September 3, 2003 Report Posted September 3, 2003 Well, this post shows why ye old settings do not suffice. Now, the most logical argument is "The old vets used em and left when they left". Sadly, this argument is a bunch of crap. The veterans left the day #mummy went up. I saw them do it. Many of them inhibited SWR for a while because it was easier (looks at rish, breath, etc...). When the current settings restored said traitors returned en masse and -*BAD WORD*-ED, WHINED, and MOANED. Thus I do not deal with them. Every zone has a change, even DSB is working on settings changes.Nothing is ever perfect, but with gradual evolution near perfection can easily be reached. These settings are more balanced then ye old settings, which makes them fairer to play with. There's still flaws of course, but the next evolution, while it may take a year or two, will fix those. Same thing goes for the map. If anyone can actually find a flaw in my reasoning, then we can talk. But cease this pathetic whining for good ol times that are long gone.[/i] Quote
Tipme Posted September 3, 2003 Report Posted September 3, 2003 vile gots some good ideas for the future of 17th Quote
Yupa Posted September 3, 2003 Report Posted September 3, 2003 I'm pretty sure Maka (Zioneer) still plays in spite of the whack settings I left long after #mummy, but I surely left the #mummy map was very good, and now that I think about it Nurples actually did do a lot of work to tile that map that was the beginning of the end for me and 17th - when #mummy was taken down It had turf flags in west/east - it was good Quote
Guest Posted September 3, 2003 Report Posted September 3, 2003 It wasn't just that Vile... it was because of other things too (that people left).Like um.... when Mike fired and banned Jim just for stating why he didn't like the mummy map. I know a few who left over that too. And I don't think that just changing back to the old settings would be enough either. Nothing is ever perfect, but with gradual evolution near perfection can easily be reached.Define "perfection". To me and to a lot of other players, the old settings suited 17th perfectly and that was why I played. These settings are more balanced then ye old settings, which makes them fairer to play with. Shït, let's make all 8 ships the same, then it would be the fairEST you could get. What's really sad is how people in charge really don't give a fück about what players want. Which was clearly proved when they deleted the polls and threads about settings/map. Quote
kentbrockman Posted September 3, 2003 Report Posted September 3, 2003 as i was saying yesterday, none of the people that can do anything even play the game. i have seen mikethenose play a few times, and ntfx likes to play often. nuples, pernille, vile - i dont think i ever see them playing. Quote
ntfx Posted September 3, 2003 Report Posted September 3, 2003 I experienced lots of changes and I still play, More people do... Now explain please. Quote
