Sorry to butt in, but from what I have noticed there are two problems that cause this behaviour. One, spyware or some firewall/antivirus program. Two, some unknown, unsolved problem that does not change with drivers, software updates, or spyware/anti-virus programs. It is very difficult to see the difference between both of them as they are related.

See here and here for explorative attempts at solving the problem. The latter being before I realized there were two problems.

I am afraid that the second problem is actually a problem with Continuum, and not a user-caused problem. It seems the "Fatal Errors Codes" reflect more of this problem then the first. No exception.log is created. No DirectX install problem. No video card driver problem. No Windows Update problem. It has stumped me time and again so I'm just contributing only some of the information that I have collected about.

I read in a magazine about a program called spy sweep. I am sure some of you have heard of it, so i figured i would just try it out and see how it compared to my current spyware proggies. I loved the program but it has this "Start-Up Shield" which is great to stop malicious programs from taking over at start-up but is not good for continuum. After i installed spy sweep i experienced the same problems;

-Unable to load ddraw.dll (Direct Draw)

-Proccess jumps around on the list

-Able to start it up once right at start=up, but not again until i restart

I had also installed xpsp2 and thought it was that, but i decided to unistall spy sweep first, and continuum started to boot again normally. So i am guessing that if you have spy sweep, or a program like spy sweep with a "Start-up Shield" feature, this could be one of the reasons you may not be able to start continuum properly.

I am having the same problem of not able to start Continuum with or without the patch files. My resolution is also set to 800x600 at 16bits to insure resolution issues. The program does not load and Ctrl+Alt+Del Task Manager > Processes does not list Continuum running at all. Is it mainly an XP problem or do you guys think it's a video driver issue? I have the latest DirectX drivers too, version 9.0b

Maybe... this is far fetched... but maybe continuum is opening on a non-existant screen? This happened to me before. Once you open it hit Alt then SPACE then M

after that hold down the left or right arrow key. Just an idea, prolly not it thought.

Also, try downloading the client again, but from a different site.

I am not to techie, but this is what i would try first blum.gif
