Client Side Lag?

Recommended Posts

I've been having lag problems with continuum but my ping and packetloss is fine. I think it's client based lag, because it's just not hockey zone but EVERY zone. When I'm in a game, the lag is normal for about 10 seconds then everybody starts spiking, and a few seconds later the screen flashes and the lag is back to normal for about 10 seconds again. This cycle continues over any over. I've tried uninstalling and delete my continuum folder and then reinstalling, but that didn't help at all. Does anyone know of such a problem and the fix to it?

This just started happening yesterday. My computer specs are

Athlon XP 2500+

EpoX 8RDA+ Motherboard

ATI Radeon 9500

1024 GB Kingston HyperX 2700 RAM

running on Windows XP.

Someone please, help, thanks smile.gif

And also, where you can see the lag of other people to you (on the right side of their nametag). Their pings range from 60 - 200. AND the flashing does not always occur, but the spiking does.

What is the "normal" ping? How exactly do you determine that everyone spikes? What type of flash is it? Does the screen just go black for a moment? More than a moment? Not black?

Also, try to turn off any background programs (virus scanners, downloads, ...)

Normal ping for me is 50-60. Spiking as in everybody jumping around the screen. The flash is just for a fraction of a second, and doesn't always occur. All background programs are turned off.

Have a sysop check your *tinfo. Sounds like bad clock sync. Most people have solved this by updating sound/video drivers and/or upgrading DirectX. Try going into options/sound and turning sound off.

Might be a wild shot from my side, but if this is the symptom :

Game plays normally for 10 sec, then everyone jumps (similar to a high ping spike ) for a brief sec.

Game runs normally for x more sec, then it spikes all over again..

I believe it could be connected to your fps, which is not likely under your machine specs..

Still, I have encountered a similar problem on my system, which I fixed by turning on "Avoid Page Flipping" in

advanced options.

Also, if the "spike" happens when you are spectating/flying in the viewable vicinity of a spesific game object, such as

a spesific tile, the ball, a flag, you could try "forcing it to system memory" under the options.

( a large list of various game objects with boxes which you can check on/off )

That resolved a problem for me when I was flying around a flag...

Finally, to check if it actually is a problem with your fps, press esc, then f to view your fps, and see if it drops from around 60 to 5->20.

The number will appear upper-left or upper-right on your screen after pressing esc+f.

If you are really desperate, try running it software-emulated, should be somewhere in the options as well.

I hope this helps..

Luminate told me to update my drivers. Reinstalling the Catalyst drivers worked, thanks all.
