Kilo Posted July 6, 2004 Report Posted July 6, 2004 Going through the settings several times, I know there is a setting for how much thrust and speed is penalized for holding the flag/ball. Why not increase this to make it harder to run around? --arnk dylie
Bomook Posted July 6, 2004 Report Posted July 6, 2004 ah, there already is a slight penalty to thrust and speed (mostly speed though) when holding flags/powerball. Currently, the problem with it is that this small penalty is negligible on a warbird or other upgraded ship. I was reluctant to increase it because on slower, or unupgraded ships, the penalty would've been extreme, making it even more difficult than it already is for newbies to try and score goals . It probably wouldn't be too bad to further increase this penalty just a little bit, though.
Kilo Posted July 6, 2004 Report Posted July 6, 2004 Well, extreme isn't necessarily bad. Powerballs, last I checked, don't need to use the flag bonuses/penalites, so it's conceivable to see the thrust/speed penalty increased significantly to eliminate running, at the expense of having powerballs no longer penalizing speed/thrust and not upgrading guns/bombs.
Bomook Posted July 6, 2004 Report Posted July 6, 2004 ah, that's one of the best ideas I've heard in a while lol yeah, it is possible to remove the flag effects from powerballs, and it would probably be better that way, too.
Lanvalk Posted July 7, 2004 Report Posted July 7, 2004 Is it possible to keep the flag effect for sharks? I know I find it tons fun to duel people in a shark holding a powerball. If I lose the power-up, though...

Kilo Posted July 7, 2004 Report Posted July 7, 2004 Then you get tons of alternate accounts to get you tons of easy money, scar. Duh. Ooh, now powerballs don't use flag settings. My idea dominates HS!
Gravitron Posted July 11, 2004 Report Posted July 11, 2004 Less than 1% of those who enter HS are veterans. That would be me, and whoever by chance. The rest of you are newbies. Now, what you were talking of is beginners and adapted players. Those who are novice, and those with experience in the zone. But make no mistake, aside me and whoever else a person or two who together we make this less than a percent of those who entered HS are subspace newbies (that means YOU). BlueC Posted July 11, 2004 Author Report Posted July 11, 2004 Well... that why there are the Elites, the ancient ones that stalks all of subspace just to smite their inferiors. Thats about all they do now a days... It will be closer to .75% Elites then. theres like 200 ppl in db. *shrugs*
scarface.nl Posted July 11, 2004 Report Posted July 11, 2004 Ive played SS for years, I am no SS newbie. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v166/ktthesleepybunny/LOLSIG.gifhttp://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b255/JoshDyamond/molewhack.png
Kilo Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 Depends on which definition of newbie you're using.

BlueC Posted July 16, 2004 Author Report Posted July 16, 2004 With the introduction of such a novel item as thor storm, another annoyance have yet agian surfaced. Perhaps this is really hindsight. The proximity of thors and the jav's bomb should be reduced.
Kilo Posted July 16, 2004 Report Posted July 16, 2004 If the prox setting is anymore than 2, it should be reduced, because $5k for 20 deaths DOES make javs cheap with an overload on prox. Thor-storm is balanced because even though it is annoying to have an area bombed to oblivion constantly, the thor-stormer is unprotected, can't buy shields, so you just go in with a super spider or such to solve your problem. On a technical note: there is one proximity setting for all bombs. Thors count as level 4 proximity bombs when determining area-of-effect and proximity. If the prox of some ships could be decreased while others remained the same, that might be good, but it just can't happen. In my opinion, bouncing bomb damage percentage needs to be reduced from whatever it is to 1000.
BlueC Posted July 17, 2004 Author Report Posted July 17, 2004 Thor-storm is unbalanced, and also in terms of cost. Newbs don't have repel storms, and have no chances of harrasing a thor'er.
