PhoenixPhire Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 I think the new settings are an improvement to the zone. The upgradable energy is my favorite part because it adds a little bit of...I dunno just something new. The weasel is a fun new threat to watch out for with its instant kill mines. I think these new settings should stay, especially the upgradable energy Quote
Yupa Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 instant kill mines? wtf - everybody -*BAD WORD*-es about how old weasel was unfair for over a year and now you give it instant kill mines? Quote
PhoenixPhire Posted June 18, 2004 Author Report Posted June 18, 2004 I think instant kill mines are fine. After all, it is completely your fault if you hit them Quote

X`terrania Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 And if your trying to get through some space and there is a mine, you have no repels, how do you take it? Quote
X`terrania Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 This set bites and you know it,every bloody ship has mines, the weasel has level 3 bullets & a one hit KO MINE with a BIG PROX. Quote
Ancient Power Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 wow who woulda knew this -*BAD WORD*- X'terr still hanged out in 17th.. HAHAHA thx 17th for taking this idiot. Quote
Jumbone Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 Map: I liked it. glad the north base is gone. ShipsWarbird - didn't notice a differanceJAv - didnt notice a differanceSpider - energy recharge is pathetic, guns are weak, burst is too slow, several times i started at 900 energy, that's way to low.Levi - stealth is cool for a slow defenseless shipTerrier - didn't notice a differanceWeasel - too much like a jav. The rockets were useless, they needed a longer burn to be usefullLancaster - didn't notice a differanceShark - Didn't notice a differanceI'm probally biased as since i mostly drive the spider. This friday setting for the spider was horrible. It's best weapon was gimped (burst) and the single shot gun was just sad. Quote
Delic Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 Greening to upgrade your ship is a bad idea.Very bad, bad bad bad. This one-hit-kill mine is stupid.Very stupid, stupid stupid stupid. Weasel is the worst ship I've seen in 17th in a long time. It's like you've just put some random specials in a ship that doesn't even feel like a 17th ship. Levi died after being raped long ago, now you're just -*BAD WORD*-ing with a corpse. Lanc still sucks and shark could be better but no one with power knows anything about how to design a good set of ships. Basically you've made a bad ship set worse. I know this isn't very constructive critisism but history tells me that it wouldn't matter if I gave you constructive critisism, and I'm too lazy to explain why this sucks, I've explained why this zone sucks long enough (; Quote
»Maverick Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 I've explained why this zone sucks long enough Then I fail to see why you are still here <_< I like these setts, they haven't changed much with the original ones but these setts bring interesting changes. These setts should be tested on a long run to really see if the changes are succesfull. -MMaverick Quote
Delic Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 I'm still here because I still haven't given up on 17th like many others. The only thing that is keeping me here is my friendz. And of course you like these settings.. heheh.. Quote
»Maverick Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 Then give some constructive critisism why they are so freaking bad . -MMaverick Quote
Delic Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 It would be a waste of time, I've done it so many times already and it doesn't help one bit.It doesn't help because people in charge don't know how to view things from a higher perspective when it comes to the gameplay. To me this is obvious because of how I've seen them change it over the years.Unfortunately people who had competence gave up on staff and are no longer with us!Now it really doesn't take much knowledge to have power to change things in this zone, that's why the changes that have been made have been bad, because the people who made them didn't know what they were doing and there's no one there to skool them. Tempest Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 I like the base. Flags at east/west are more or less as I'd imagined them, and nobody's groaning about north being gone. I'd say warbirds are a little unbalanced power-wise. They still seem to lack the offensive edge, but afterburners, repels and a fair energy level make 'em at least as difficult to kill as they currently are, if not more so. Nonetheless, having to green X-radar balances it somewhat. Javelins seem above average in terms of power. Spiders seem to lack a proper role. Their guns and portals make them excellent support and pursuers outside base, but their burst is near-useless except in certain areas of base. It seems strange the former advantages suggest a fighter-sort of role whilst the burst suggests a more port/bursting style of play. I see the advantages of having to green up for energy after spawning, but it makes them very, very vulnerable whilst doing so. That said, a fully-greened spider is still remarkably effective (but I'm going to pretend that's a bad thing 'cos I hate greening). It's also been suggested that the burst is meant to soften enemies up so that a salvo of bullets will finish them, but surely a faster, bigger burst that deals less damage per pellet is more suitable than a slower, smaller but more damaging burst? Leviathans seem relatively weak. The afterburners are all but useless. The extra speed is hardly recompense enough for the massive energy drain, which would likely have proved more useful absorbing enemy shots under most, if not all, cir-*BAD WORD*-stances. The bombs also seem almost indistinguishable, damage-wise, from warbird bombs. Terrier is well-balanced in these settings. The weasels are very interesting. Rockets are far from useless: players can make rocket/mine runs in a way similar to that of oldmap weasel, which is certainly entertaining. The low speed makes this kinda suicidal, though. Level 3 bullets don't seem to fit the ship somehow, but nonetheless provides a degree of balance to it. I wasn't too sure what changes have been applied to the lancaster. Seems more reliant on bullets (ugh) and have a new repel. Haven't noticed any changes to shark. Seems to be above average in terms of power. Neutral reaction, overall. Doesn't seem to add anything particularly exciting to game-play, except perhaps for the weasel. [bIAS] Oh, and Warbird + Antiwarp = Bad. Upgrade Greening + Spider = Bad. Lancs + Bullets = Bad. [/bIAS] Hmm. Maybe I shoulda tagged that at the start. Quote
Arianax Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 New Weasel is great, Thrust is just long enough to get you out of danger or a good attack thing, and is, as far as i am aware, ungreenable (correct me if im wrong). other ships are good, KO mine is cool as well, small prox, only good if someones raping you really, but still good. yay settings PS. Very true Tempest. I like the sets. They still need some work though, probably just on the spider, weasel and maybe the terrier. Quote
Vore+ Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 terrs not balancedhas xshoots bombs too fastthey should shoot less frequently or be less powerful imo Quote
Rixsta Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 Im liking the change anyway, but in terms of the map i like not having north... it feels more compact. As for the ships im not luving the weasel, i think the normal weasel is more 17th Parallel like, its more original and totally diffrent to all the other ships. but i think doing this was a good idea because i think certain ships can be incorporated into the normal sets and then tweaked to fit in - Noteabbly the WB and Spider. Im not keen on the the idea of greening but i am on the whole veteran ability thing. It would be good if you could get your veteran ability when you reach a certain bounty, or a certain amount of kills after respawn, and then maybe something better when you reach another tier of excellence, through say a really high bounty or kills without death, something useful, but not overwhelmingly powerful. I'd like to see the normal sets tweaked a bit IF the whole T.O. comes to no avail (which it shouldn't because there's a few successful ships out of it), i think they have potential, even little tweaks like the levi with warp make big diffrences, and slowly it should evolve to a whole new set virtually. im in between on this one, some ships i really like, others im not to keen on. Enjoying the change though Quote
Miami Posted June 19, 2004 Report Posted June 19, 2004 I don't like the new setting for no other reason than I like the usual ship set. When the teams are evenly matched with skilled players the matches are very compe!@#$%^&*ive, and ppl make use of all ships. I like the new map better, the one thing most ppl agree on is that the old North area is usually not to exciting. Having the flags in a more accessable area is a good idea. Quote
