Dav Posted June 12, 2004 Report Posted June 12, 2004 I just found this rather worring article over the FAT file system: http://news.com.com/Microsoft+file+patent+...ml?tag=nefd.top Surley if they win either linux will instantly perrish or die slowly due to it becoming incompatable with windows and unix! the m$ will have an even bigger monopoly by iliminating the only OS able to beat them.
Ancient Power Posted June 12, 2004 Report Posted June 12, 2004 lol if your worried about that, you need to get some fresh air.
Yupa Posted June 12, 2004 Report Posted June 12, 2004 what ancient said linux is unstoppable at the moment
Dav Posted June 13, 2004 Author Report Posted June 13, 2004 what ancient said linux is unstoppable at the momenthowever a ruling in tha favor of M$ will be damaging. < :wtfwtf: >my friend is getting lindows soon, im gonna look to see if its any good and i might get it if it is :wtfwtf: >
Ancient Power Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 tell your friend that he's a freaking dumb!@#$%^&*. Lindows is for whiners and -*BAD WORD*-es who can't handle true *nix systems.
Yupa Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 ...and psychotic gayx0rs that like that crazy--*BAD WORD*- Lindows commercial that makes me want to barf and kill people
Tipme Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 ok gaysthis is just about operating systemsyou guys make me laugh as much as when my friends talk about politics...
Ancient Power Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 i remember when people asked me when they saw the PCs with advertisements for lindows if it was a typo.
»i88gerbils Posted June 14, 2004 Report Posted June 14, 2004 Anybody who uses FAT on linux deserves to pay royalties. Of course, if you're insistent about keeping a windows drive about. Keep windows on a FAT par!@#$%^&*ioned drive, and use your sleek 10k rpm sata drive with kernel 2.6 as your main drive that's not par!@#$%^&*ioned as FAT.
fresca Posted June 14, 2004 Report Posted June 14, 2004 Of course I will get flamed on it, but I have tried RedHat Linux and ArkLinux, and I have to say that I completely hate Linux. I could understand how if you are a serious programmer, how Linux would not only be useful but a lot easier and better for your environment, but if you aren't a programmer, I would have to say that you don't want Linux. Here's what happened with me and Linux. Now, I have been a computer wiz since I was nearly 7, I was gaming on Starcraft at the time, programming in VB, doin lotsa stuff, and now I probably know the equivelent to my dad, whom is a computer tech. I figured I could take Linux, regardless how my dad warned me that it would be a lot different. First thing; where the -*BAD WORD*- is My Computer, or any sort of actual explorer or something, where are all my files and programs? Took me a long time to figure this one out, and usually this type of stuff is easy for me. After I figured it out, how the -*BAD WORD*- do I get Linux to detect my router and get me online? After a couple of hours I find that RH Linux doesn't support my router. I thought I would make things a little comfortable, I pop in my burned CD with my MP3s on it. Uh Oh, Linux don't allow you to have MP3 files because they don't want to get in legal action or something. Alright, so how do I install or run a program? I never found out how to do this one, you need to run some confusing Command Prompt to install everything. I thought the look of Linux was pretty good, but Windows is almost as good. Me, I think I will stick with Windows.
fresca Posted June 14, 2004 Report Posted June 14, 2004 Oh and I voted 'No'. Somewhere along the lines they might state Microsoft is making a Monopoly with their FAT, or something similar to that.
Bacchus Posted June 14, 2004 Report Posted June 14, 2004 WTF are you all talking about??? pffft...geeks...
Dr Brain Posted June 14, 2004 Report Posted June 14, 2004 First thing; where the -*BAD WORD*- is My Computer, or any sort of actual explorer or something, where are all my files and programs? Took me a long time to figure this one out, and usually this type of stuff is easy for me. The big "Home" icon on the desktop wasn't big enough, I see. After I figured it out, how the -*BAD WORD*- do I get Linux to detect my router and get me online? After a couple of hours I find that RH Linux doesn't support my router. Your router? Unless it's attached to your computer, Linux doesn't have to support it. I thought I would make things a little comfortable, I pop in my burned CD with my MP3s on it. Uh Oh, Linux don't allow you to have MP3 files because they don't want to get in legal action or something. Utter BS. I play MP3s all the time. Alright, so how do I install or run a program? I never found out how to do this one, you need to run some confusing Command Prompt to install everything. Depends on the distro. Installing is easily the hardest part of linux. But there aren't as many programs to install anyway.

BG Posted June 16, 2004 Report Posted June 16, 2004 AP says 'If that's all you're worried about, you need fresh air', SuSE agreed, and stated that linux is unstoppable. EXACTLY.I'm not worried about Linux dying.
Ancient Power Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 some how i doubt that you've ever had a *nix os or system...
