Guest Beast Biter Posted June 10, 2004 Report Posted June 10, 2004 I recently upgraded my computer from an athlon 2000+ and epox motherboard to an Athlon 2800+ and Asus A7N8X-E Delxue Motherboard. Now my video is very choppy in subspace even though I have high framerate 400-600 at 1920x1440. my setup: Athlon 2800+ A7N8X-E Deluxe 2 sticks of 256 MB PC 2100 Crucial Chaintech GeForce Ti4200 Western Digital Raptor in Sata Two IBM Hard drives on IDE Windows XP Stuff I've tried: Fresh install of XP, latest drivers, all updates, etc.. Fast Write on/off in BIOS Spread Spectrum disabled/.50/1.00 Vertical Sync On/Off Different video card Different monitor Unplugging IDE hard drives Disable hardware acceleration All kinds of different nView optionsAll Continuum advanced options, page flipping, software emulation, etc Im really stumped on this one, have been trying to fix it for a couple weeks. Subspace ran great on my last computer. Other than this problem, my computer seems to run great. Anyone have any ideas? Quote
candygirl Posted June 10, 2004 Report Posted June 10, 2004 what version of DirectX are you using? Have you tryed to update to the new version? You can find the newer version HERE Quote
Guest Beast Biter Posted June 10, 2004 Report Posted June 10, 2004 Im using 9.0b and latest video card drivers from nvidia. Quote
candygirl Posted June 10, 2004 Report Posted June 10, 2004 You can do or try 3 things 1. re-install your video card 2. Re-install Subspace 3. Re-locate your v/card to another slot (The slot that the video card is in now may be bad) Or you can try running Debug. You will find this in windows folder Quote
candygirl Posted June 10, 2004 Report Posted June 10, 2004 In the advanced options what boxes do you have checked off?uncheck all boxes in advance options in subspace and see if that helps. Quote
»SD>Big Posted June 10, 2004 Report Posted June 10, 2004 open your ctm client, go to View -> Advanced Options and make sure that Software Emulation, Avoid page flipping and No Framerate Limit are DISABLED. that should fix your problemo. i think EDIT: on second thought, you can have no framerate limit on, but try it without it first and see how you like it. you really don't need more then 75 fps. Guest Beast Biter Posted June 11, 2004 Report Posted June 11, 2004 I've tried playing with the advanced options but it doesnt help. On my last computer I played with avoid page flipping and no framerate limit on and it seemed to work fine. Quote

Dav Posted June 11, 2004 Report Posted June 11, 2004 probably no use to you but make sure your desktop and continuum resolutions are the same, see what that does. Quote
Guest Beast Biter Posted June 12, 2004 Report Posted June 12, 2004 tried it..didnt help also tried various resolution and color depth settings but same problem Quote
candygirl Posted June 12, 2004 Report Posted June 12, 2004 Is it just this game that has the Choppy Video ? Quote

Guest Beast Biter Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 Just installed Dungeon Siege tonight and it ran great...cant understand it!! Have tried various compatibility modes- wont start in 95 and 98, starts in 2000 and NT but freezes when I try to enter a zone...other compatibility options dont seem to affect it. I think Im going to try another motherboard next week (non nForce). Has anyone else had problems with nForce2 motherboards and continuum? Quote
Guest AndroidAkira Posted June 24, 2004 Report Posted June 24, 2004 Have had the exact same problem twice! The only solution that worked for me was to install older graphic drivers. Quote

Kitchen SinK Posted February 10, 2005 Report Posted February 10, 2005 Hiya, I too have the same problem with my new computer setup. DFI Lanparty Nforce 2 ultra b (Motherboard)Athlon 3000+ (400mhz bus)1 GB Corsair (400mhz) pc3200 HIS Radeon 9800 Pro 128 video Card--not sure what else matters at this point. I have tried every possible setting in the advanced options in Continuum .39pr1 The walls and what not in the game seem to lurch and it is not smooth.Kind of feels like it does when I am lagging but I have perfect pings and no packet loss to speak of. It does not matter what resolution I run from 640 to 1600 it is all the same. Help me if you can.I have not tried another vid card yet, though I guess that is next. »SOS Posted February 11, 2005 Report Posted February 11, 2005 Try older drivers first. Make sure to uninstall the newer drivers before installing older ones too. If that doesn't fix it, tell me what your FPS is (press F when the ESC menu is open to show it - it's a small red number at the top of the screen). Quote

Either way same effect no difference. I will try old drivers, but I would hate to have to break a cutting edge game to play SS. ( though if truth be told -- there is no better game than SS) Kitchen Sink Quote

Any more suggestions? Quote
Kitchen SinK Posted February 13, 2005 Report Posted February 13, 2005 Try a different monitor.<{POST_SNAPBACK}> !@#$%^&*uming that this statement is not simply a setup for "Owned"I am using the same monitor that I always have for SS and it works great with my old school GEFORCE 2 GTS on SS at 1600x1200. Thanks for asking though Quote
»SOS Posted February 13, 2005 Report Posted February 13, 2005 Hmm... when did the problem start? Or has it always done this? Try upgrading the motherboard drivers too. Quote

Even 3 different bios revisions, thought not just for this reason I am almost convinced that SS just does not like RADEON 9800 Pro Cards, lol HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELPI am about to lose a long and fun subspace career.
