Robbel Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 Is there anyone working on a lagbot, or are there any plans for one?

50% Packetloss Posted June 6, 2004 Report Posted June 6, 2004 Explody's lag bot is very nice. But if you are going to be starting off on a zone i strongly discourage use of one. New players dont understand the concept of lag and lagbots can make mistakes when the server starts lagging and everyone's lag jumps through the roof. This happened in MG about a week ago, everyone in the zone was spec'd in a matter of minutes and the newbies were going crazy thinking that someone hacked the server. Zone owners seem to think that a bot is needed to make their zone complete, I suggest minimal bots and only use what you truly need. Don't get carried away with features.
emileej Posted August 12, 2004 Report Posted August 12, 2004 Here is a thought:Have the lagbot spec those players who have great lag relative to other players - not relative to some defined norm.
Smong Posted August 12, 2004 Report Posted August 12, 2004 That could artificially create lag, in a large active arena the bot would need to ask the server for lag stats from several players. Obviously you would cache the stats from the server for each player, maybe weight them by how old they are too. If you spaced out the requests, then when there is a spike the bot will be using some old data from before the spike and still spec a lot of people.
BG Posted August 13, 2004 Report Posted August 13, 2004 What if there were like, 10 people with pings of low 20 to spike 200 and no packetloss? Then pretty much everyone on dial up ( maybe some cable, if your provider is sucking ) is specced, even if they aren't 'lagging'
Faither Posted August 14, 2004 Report Posted August 14, 2004 Well how about the usage of the sysop *lag command. It displays the overall lag of players on the server. The only thing i do not know is how accurate and updated these values are XD
