Guest ssvet Posted August 28, 2003 Report Posted August 28, 2003 I've just about had enough of people who spec hunt and cheat, I just ask that in the next version of Continuum they remove the co-ordinates when someone goes into spec mode. Not too much to ask? It won't stop the cheating of course but it should make it harder without the co-ordinates.
»SOS Posted August 28, 2003 Report Posted August 28, 2003 What's so bad about spec hunting? And no good player plays by coordinates anyway...
Mr Ekted Posted August 28, 2003 Report Posted August 28, 2003 There's a suggestion in Cont database, for Powerball, for an arena setting to force specs to spectate the ball. This way they can't pan around map to look ahead where the defense is, etc.
Guest ssvet Posted August 28, 2003 Report Posted August 28, 2003 What's so bad about spec hunting? And no good player plays by coordinates anyway... What's so bad about cheating? Oh no of course it's going to help make the game more popular. Look, it's simple really when a player goes into spectator mode Co-ordinates should not be displayed simple as that. It is not too much to ask. What part do you not understand? This has been a long time problem especially in a place like Trench Wars where you get lamers going around spec hunting everyone as their way of seeking revenge. Who are you to judge a "good player"? That is totally irrelevant to this thread.
Silk Posted August 28, 2003 Report Posted August 28, 2003 You could call Spec Hunting cheating but its part of the game. Some zones let you ?spec to see who is watching you.
Yupa Posted August 28, 2003 Report Posted August 28, 2003 it's always been part of the game, too late to take it out now (making it optional to take it out is fine) moving to game dev
»Swift Posted August 28, 2003 Report Posted August 28, 2003 If remove the coords from spec then you might as well remove the -*BAD WORD*- radar too. Reason being b/c if you look at a map you'll know where to find them too.
»SOS Posted August 28, 2003 Report Posted August 28, 2003 This topic is stupid. Or maybe just the topic starter.
Yupa Posted August 28, 2003 Report Posted August 28, 2003 the reason he started it, maybe, but more options is usually good
Guest ssvet Posted August 29, 2003 Report Posted August 29, 2003 If remove the coords from spec then you might as well remove the -*BAD WORD*- radar too. Reason being b/c if you look at a map you'll know where to find them too.Did any of you people pay attention at school? I didn't say that removing the Co-ordinates would stop cheating, it is not the be all and end all of it but there are certain lamers who use the Co-ordinates to piss other players off. The radar itself has nothing to do with it, I know you can see other players as dots why you have brought that up I have no idea because it has nothing to do with spec hunting. What I'm talking about is lamers who specifically target another player as revenge, comprehendo? I know that a person familiar with a map inside out would have no trouble finding where someone is by just going into spectator mode regardless of the Co-ordinates. Removing the Co-ordinates will make it harder for people to find out where you are, especially those who don't play the game everyday like people who have a life. Any of you? This topic is stupid. Or maybe just the topic starter. You've proved that you are obviously, you've got nothing to contribute to this thread so quit being an -*BAD WORD*-. boy.
Guest ssvet Posted August 29, 2003 Report Posted August 29, 2003 There's a suggestion in Cont database, for Powerball, for an arena setting to force specs to spectate the ball. This way they can't pan around map to look ahead where the defense is, etc.I'm glad that is a start, but this is a problem that needs to be addressed before the game turns stale because of it. Cheating does not encourage more people to play the game for those who want to play fair. it's always been part of the game, too late to take it out now (making it optional to take it out is fine) So what if it's always been part of the game, developers don't look at bugs and say well "that's always been part of the program". There's no reason why cheating shouldn't be looked at seriously. I think that if removing the spec Co-ordinates isn't a viable option then perhaps disabling player spectating could be looked at therefore leaving the spectator to pan around the map only or having specific viewpoints that you can choose between without the freedom of panning. My ideas anyway.
Yupa Posted August 29, 2003 Report Posted August 29, 2003 it's not a bug, it's not cheating the best team wins (!@#$%^&*uming a fair game and barring lag) - if your team can't handle someone specing and helping another team, tough beans man like I said, having a setting that can toggle something like this on and off is fine with me - options are cool
Excel Posted August 30, 2003 Report Posted August 30, 2003 How would that stop people from "cheating" if you've played in the zone long enough, you can tell the approximate location of where the person is by just pressing alt, or whatever your map key is. So there really is no point to it.
Smong Posted August 30, 2003 Report Posted August 30, 2003 You could private message yourself %coords, so that would need taking out as well (but as most people have said, it's all pointless).
Guest KR!EG Posted September 8, 2003 Report Posted September 8, 2003 Your liberalism is showing. Besides, as Akai said... Spec-hunting does nothing but let a noob team kill another noob team.

Bargeld Posted September 11, 2003 Report Posted September 11, 2003 I think that there are better things for PriitK to do code than this. This is the first time in 7 years of my history in this game that I have ever heard a complaint about a player speccing another player and giving out coords. The only time that this should be considered cheating, is if its someone with 2 computers right next to each other, so that he can glance over and see coords and energy/specials etc.Speccing is used in league, and in old days, it was considered an !@#$%^&*et to have an extra 4 players in spec on your team to shout out when someone had 0 reps.Don't give a player a reason the get revenge and they wont spec you.Get friends to help defend you.Warp or shipchange to evade the attackers.Get good enough to defend yourself. Adding a feature to the game to make it so you die less seems irrational to me. I would say that its closer to cheating than having ppl spec you. And btw, cheating is when you have an unfair advantage over another player, that isn't available to them. You can always do it right back to them. It's definately not cheating. But I will admit that there may be a desire for certain zones to add some options to enhance gameplay. I still think that there are better things to add that would benefit all zones though.
Hoch Posted September 12, 2003 Report Posted September 12, 2003 I'm just bewildered on how this is cheating To each their own... -Hoch
